Who actually cares about Burrow's past incidents in other games. It has no bearning on what was either said or not said by a referee. The logic that a ref wouldn't say something like that because it would be a stupid thing to do ("suicide" as he calls it) doesn't make sense. People make mistakes and do stupid things! That ref should not have said what he said to Burrows. Why should he be embarrassed (like Campbvell said). Burrow's shouldn't grandstand like that either.

the same thing happened to my mens league team. It wasnt during one game, it was over a month time and it came to a head when my team had a 3-1 lead then kept giving us penalty after penalty after penalty.....and it wasnt coincidental that we were play the commissoner of the league's team.
i think its important that the refs dont determine the outcome of a game, they are there to make fair, unbiased calls. i dont like the canucks, but i want all teams to have a fair chance to win games, and i want the best team to take the cup.

Well what Ron DIDN'T mention about the Smithson hit on Burrows is that it's not unusual for a player who gets hit to try and look up to see if they can get up or if they are concussed or if they are all screwed up.
It doesn't mean he was looking up at the refs even though it can appear as such.

the same thing happened to my mens league team. It wasnt during one game, it was over a month time and it came to a head when my team had a 3-1 lead then kept giving us penalty after penalty after penalty.....and it wasnt coincidental that we were play the commissoner of the league's team.

Ibelieave ref did screw burrows. they do it all the time and not once do refs get fined for personal retaleation like that ref did. i was big hockey fan but do to incidents like this and nhl not being man enough to admit they screwed up and fine thier employees for makeing mistake like they would to a player . i stoped watching and going to games . You know, as a sports journalist, Ron McLean is supposed to be unbiased. When you remark things during the video replay, like 'don't worry, I'm just trying to get more bang for the buck', or 'is it five [minutes] yet', that's a rather blatant attempt to colour the audience. That is NOT YOUR JOB as a journalist. You present the facts and leave the viewer to make up their own opinion.
Also, when a referee comes up to a player before the game, when there is no officiating occurring... suspicious.

Burrows broke the Code. He dove, made the ref look bad, the ref told him next time he was going to get payback. Players, coaches, refs all are aware that that happens. Burrows broght it public. Hence the hatchet job- more payback.

The point is that HNIC is biased, this was a hit-piece that should've showed the other side and Auger has a history of being a terrible referee, which Ron McLean (a referee himself) didn't bother to point out.
PS Burrows has 49 points so far this season, Avery never had more than 39.

I just saw this Mclean interview for first time. Went into viewing it with open mind. I expected him to criticize Burrows, but this was a witch hunt for lack of better term. Mclean was even trying to lead Campbell and good on Colin to not get sucked in. Hockey Night In Canada my ass... It's should be called Hockey Night In Toronto. Vancouver always gets shit treatment from CBC, TSN and The Score just cause all those channels are based in the east and suck every Leaf and Senator dick they can get their hands on. The Alberta teams get the same treatement as Vancouver at times, although Calgary sometimes gets positive comments.

MacLean's problem is that he is a former NHL official (linesman, I think) and he's merely protecting his own here. It becomes really apparent in the last segment of this interview, where its obvious he's had the crew comb through 4 yrs of videos to cherry pick his clips. This is a real problem now because MacLean's bias is obvious, yet he's a mainstay on HNIC. It would be great if Don Cherry would just wind up and smack MacLean over the ear.

The officiating in the NHL is brutal... from the on ice right up to the head office officials. It makes the game really suck. I don't know how many times the officials seem like they have to be the deciding factor in the games when they should let the players play. I hate watching the whole game decided on power plays all the time.

For the record (in my opinion): Yes, Burrows has a history of diving and embellishing, but the fact that Auger approached him about that previous game is indication enough that he was out to get Burrows, which is unprofessional in itself. Secondly, the calls Auger made in the dying seconds of the game were weak to say the least; not to mention the little nod and wink he gave Burrows after he made the call. Lastly, c'mon Auger just looks like a prick!
