To me, madden isn't so much a "game" as it is an "activity" for hardcore football fans. And there's nothing wrong with that, but for someone like me, who isn't a HC football fan and couldn't care less about NFL licenses, BackBreaker is more like a football-based action game that is actually REALLY FUN to play. Its all about the money. Competition is good. Look at the NHL, they have competition there and thats the reason why EA's NHL series is constantly getting great reviews and winning Sports game of the Year awards almost every year. That competition is driving EA to really make a great game with solid innovation and solid gameplay. Its not the same with Madden..there is no competition, thus, no reason to really improve the game year to year.
Madden looks great, the presentation as usual is amazing, but when you start playing the game, it's still the same crappy motion, movements and all. Just look at how the players in madden run, it's so unrealistic!

the NFL should have just sold the license as a legal right to make an NFL game, would they not have made more money? I don't really care if the NFL is "greedy". Backbreaker is something new and real and it got second one witch is mini games and when backbreaker gets the NFL license other games can get the license like 2k,blitzs,gameday,etc I'll make a video tomorrow but good vid

@bmxalday4 I actually prefer the gameplay and controls of backbreaker. The only two things madden has over backbreaker is graphics and and actual NFL teams. To me though, graphics are not all that important. They are less than %10 percent of the game.

I revolted EA by selling all their bullshit sports games. Even on my ps2. I got backbreaker becuz it is football. I downloaded the nfl rosters and use the lions as a proud lions fan should. I really miss the street series that game brings back so many memories from my childhood I wish they can bring it back. And I support backbreaker it's fun and not complicated like madden. Its just new and has alottt of potential in the future

The used game business is horrible for game devs. It's financially similar to them as stealing or losing product. They make no royalties from games sold secondhand, so I feel that the charge for online use with a used game is totally fair. Buying a used game is very similar to downloading music without paying for it. I'm not saying morally, just financially in the eyes of the devs. Support the games industry, buy new.
The reason you can't pay $5 to update the rosters is...$60 is more than $5.
I bet EA would be willing to listen to a $60 roster update...but anything less than that does not fit their business model...I hate that EA bought NFL exclusivity...But, it is what it is...There isn't much we can do.
The worst part is, Madden 11 has the least amount of usable features of any of their recent releases. Hell, the soundtrack alone has been picked to bare bones. The profit margin HAS to be huge right now.
Backbreaker just doesn't do it for me. No hot routes, limited play books, no ability to set a guy in motion, no o-line/fb blocking assignments and a shitty camera angle.

Madden has gone from mega giant to a monopolized joke. I bought alomst every madden up to 07 then stopped. I then purchased madden 10 thinking I had a chance at something "upgraded". I should have known better. Traded the game in before the end of the week.
how about this for a unique football game to make it as realistic as possible, make a 1st person game or a very zoomed in over the shoulder perspective that makes you feel like the player on the field. madden has the whole field in view, when realistically its tough to see over the pass rush. about the lack of changes, thats why i dont get it every year
I deal with football since few weeks because iam German and its not this popular n here so i load the madden 11 and was thinking wow i love football...then i spent 1 week learning the rules taktiks and everything i needed to know about 5 hours per day and told everbody iam gonna get this Game but then i tried BACKBREAKER and iam shure that is what Football on the field is about..Madden is like choose the play and wait what happens..But Backbreaker takes u in the Game with the full Contact Sport

Madden has only a year to complete a game. Backbreaker had 4!!! Compare madden 2006 to madden 10. Madden 10 is a huge improvement. But also, backbreaker isn't as experienced. In 16 years, they could make a backbreaker with everything fixed.

Coming from a gamer that has won more than 250 games and lost less than 40 on Madden 10,I have to admit that Backbreaker has the potential of becoming the better football game, but it has a lot to work on. First, zoom the screen out (I really don't wanna see the lineman's backs when i'm trying to throw the ball), and the controls needs to be fixed. Other than that, the game is good but not better than Madden (Try again next year)

yeah the physics engine for Backbreaker looks good. but that alone is not enough to pull ahead of Madden. its sorely lacking in features and the gameplay is overly simplistic. I would play both, but Madden will keep my attention for the long haul til next year.
Maybe the next version of Backbreaker (if there is one) will do better. Who knows
Euphoria gaming engine is the future of football sims, Backbreaker was purely made to show what the future holds as the real next gen. Lets hope that either 2k sports or EA team up with 505 to make a true next gen football game.

Madden is focusing on making the game feel like a real NFL game, instead of fixing things like receivers running out of bounds, the clock not stopping when you run out or bounds, ect. To me its not about Change from yr to yr, but Growth from yr to yr. The game should be getting better not neccesarily dramatically different. Real Sports dont change that drastically as an athlete playing them, but that doesnt mean your game shouldnt be improving with time. Infact thats the goal.
Honestly, I don't think its realistic that a sports game drastically changes each year. What upsets me about Madden is how inferior the game balance is on the next gen version. They have all but eliminated user control so now the game is about AI exploits and probability rather than skill. To me, Madden '06 for the Xbox/PS2 was the best version of Madden to date, though '04 and '05 were great as well.

I revolted EA by selling all their bullshit sports games. Even on my ps2. I got backbreaker becuz it is football. I downloaded the nfl rosters and use the lions as a proud lions fan should. Backbreaker is football and its greathouse patch makes it the best. Dont leave me shit comments saying its not. All you madden faithful i hope u enjoy wasting ur money over and over for this crap. as far as game play goes, backbreaker is best. but if you are a hardcore NFL fanboy, madden is best. people fail to realize that backbreaker is fully un-sponsored, so they are putting everything they got into this game.

I really miss the street series that game brings back so many memories from my childhood I wish they can bring it back. And I support backbreaker it's fun and not complicated like madden. Its just new and has alottt of potential in the future

The used game business is horrible for game devs. It's financially similar to them as stealing or losing product. They make no royalties from games sold secondhand, so I feel that the charge for online use with a used game is totally fair. Buying a used game is very similar to downloading music without paying for it. I'm not saying morally, just financially in the eyes of the devs. Support the games industry, buy new.

The reason you can't pay $5 to update the rosters is...$60 is more than $5.
I bet EA would be willing to listen to a $60 roster update...but anything less than that does not fit their business model...I hate that EA bought NFL exclusivity...But, it is what it is...There isn't much we can do.
The worst part is, Madden 11 has the least amount of usable features of any of their recent releases. Hell, the soundtrack alone has been picked to bare bones. The profit margin HAS to be huge right now.

I completely agree with you. Im TIRED of Madden and its bullshit "60 bucks" for a slightly prettier game and updated rosters. You then get it home and the game, though pretty, has the same problems that it had for the past 4 years.
Madden has gone from mega giant to a monopolized joke. I bought alomst every madden up to 07 then stopped. I then purchased madden 10 thinking I had a chance at something "upgraded". I should have known better. Traded the game in before the end of the week.

how about this for a unique football game to make it as realistic as possible, make a 1st person game or a very zoomed in over the shoulder perspective that makes you feel like the player on the field. madden has the whole field in view, when realistically its tough to see over the pass rush. about the lack of changes, thats why i dont get it every year

I deal with football since few weeks because iam German and its not this popular n here so i load the madden 11 and was thinking wow i love football...then i spent 1 week learning the rules taktiks and everything i needed to know about 5 hours per day and told everbody iam gonna get this Game but then i tried BACKBREAKER and iam shure that is what Football on the field is about..Madden is like choose the play and wait what happens..But Backbreaker takes u in the Game with the full Contact Sport

Madden has only a year to complete a game. Backbreaker had 4!!! Compare madden 2006 to madden 10. Madden 10 is a huge improvement. But also, backbreaker isn't as experienced. In 16 years, they could make a backbreaker with everything fixed.

but back breaker is absolute garbage... i played for half an hour and couldnt even learn how to make a pass. it has good animations but everything else is completely terrible.
Madden just needs to listen to fans about a new physics engine and they have to some degree. this years madden has new locomotion and running mechanics that take into account a players weight and accelleration.

Coming from a gamer that has won more than 250 games and lost less than 40 on Madden 10,I have to admit that Backbreaker has the potential of becoming the better football game, but it has a lot to work on. First, zoom the screen out (I really don't wanna see the lineman's backs when i'm trying to throw the ball), and the controls needs to be fixed. Other than that, the game is good but not better than Madden (Try again next year)

yeah the physics engine for Backbreaker looks good. but that alone is not enough to pull ahead of Madden. its sorely lacking in features and the gameplay is overly simplistic. I would play both, but Madden will keep my attention for the long haul til next year.
Maybe the next version of Backbreaker (if there is one) will do better. Who knows

I do miss the days of 2k as well...same with Blitz. Although, Blitz The League is an amazing game, but it lacks fanbase, and you know it, an NFL license.

Madden is focusing on making the game feel like a real NFL game, instead of fixing things like receivers running out of bounds, the clock not stopping when you run out or bounds, ect. Instead they put crap in like the chain gang, the stupid refs talking about a touchdown, and the extra point. I dont care about that stupid crap that gets old. Make the game play better.

To me its not about Change from yr to yr, but Growth from yr to yr. The game should be getting better not neccesarily dramatically different. Real Sports dont change that drastically as an athlete playing them, but that doesnt mean your game shouldnt be improving with time. Infact thats the goal.

Honestly, I don't think its realistic that a sports game drastically changes each year. What upsets me about Madden is how inferior the game balance is on the next gen version. They have all but eliminated user control so now the game is about AI exploits and probability rather than skill. To me, Madden '06 for the Xbox/PS2 was the best version of Madden to date, though '04 and '05 were great as well.
