Also 95% of the time upper-left (larger caps) near the CPU tend to go first, and are the most easiest to replace/repair. My electronics store doesn't sell the correct/same caps as most boards take, so I merely resolder from another dead board (crappier/more damaged)
Do you think it would work to just use good caps from other mobos and solder to the one I'm fixing? also does the voltage have to be Exact same for the one you replace?
Iknow it would work but is it just as good as new caps?
My Dell Dimension has one bad Nichicon HM(M) capacitor. I don't know how to solder, time for a trip to express service via badcaps.net. I love the machine. LOL
@mattyvt93 well its a x850 XT playing games like combat arms or doom 3 is very smooth and high frame rate but i get this little stutter at times rapidly. well maybe its the graphic card but i dont know.... im asuming more of the motherboard since this system is about 5 year old and i abuse it like play mmorpg on it and almost never turn the computer off.... so maybe the motherboard is a bit burnt that cause the stutter.... so yeah... jus assumption.
@MrDelightfulPink I would look at the video card still, make sure there is enough air flow around it and make sure its not coverd in dust ect. pull it out and also inspect the caps on it or even better yet try another card in it and see what happens.
@sandydogy Have you tryed replacing the ram? i see the same issue all the time, with replacing the ram and then the computer is fine. Have you had a look at all the caps to see if they look normal or exploded?
i found a socket 775 with a p4 ht 3.2ghz with dead caps with pcie 16x, after looking through my cap collection i fixed her up and sold it for $100 rofl with a dvd burner, 40gb hdd, 512mb of ddr2 and onboard video
seems caps are a killer for most computer related thing apart from ram, software ect. i think my computer may have a few blown caps but cant remember. ill have to look another day. but it has bad sectors in the hard drive so i need to replace that before i do anything
hmm

@IamFat32 Yeah should be fine really, try keep the voltage and rating very similar. but new caps are cheap as to buy.

I don't think they short out...they dry up and lose capacity...if you test them with an ESR meter you'll see what I mean.

@30GB Niceee! wish i found motherboards like that :P
Good job!

You need a good temperature controlled iron to do this, otherwise you'll burn the circuit traces in the process.
douro20 1 year ago
@douro20 Apparently you need 40-45degreees Iron to do this Job, i have 3 different irons, and this one is just under 45c
Cheers.
