  • Hell yea bro

  • Hey yukschmuck im in ac now at the school :)

  • @6fthondaboi

Right on. How are you liking it?

AC is the harder school, but you can do it. Rock and roll!

  • Youre strange, weird, and kinda creepy also but none the less great video and info. Thumbs up^

  • @MagiX19

    Thanks for the compliments :D

  • that way you get all the endorsments you want. i have all of them hazmat, school bus, passenger bus, tank, metal coil, airbrakes, towtruck, now i can drive what i want! good luck people!

  • Hello great video i graduated from greyhound bus school out of atlantic from the nyc terminal. Everyone should be aware of the fact that if you want to used greyhound to get your cdl you will do a road test on a greyhound passenger bus not a school bus so that means you will only get the p endorsement which gives you less options of different vehicles you can operate. get the bus driver training from them but pay the money out of your own pocket for the road test.

  • You should be a DJ or podcaster --you are a very well spoken and likeable youn man. Great info--thanks!

  • Can I learn how to drive elsewhere, for exampel Sweden?

  • @andreasrindsater

I'm sure, but I know nothing about that. You would have to contact bus companies and the proper government agencies, and, if you're not from the country you want to drive in, would probably need to change your citizenship first.

  • @yukSchmuck This was really helpful man thanks, I have my CDL-B permit but i don't have the money for all the classes i need to get the training needed to try for my CDL-B license. I don't want to really work for Grey Hound but i want to know if you can get your CBL throught them for free. If you can do you take the driving test on there site or do they take you to the DMV on there dime (meaning with there bus)

  • What about MegaBus or BoltBus?

  • @Artscola

BoltBus is part of Greyhound. Greyhound drivers can bid over to BoltBus and vice versa, they are both together.

  • @the99drill Not really. If the bus didn't exist then we would have a better rail network

  • One more thing say I couldn't find something else right away and I chose to stay with greyhound for a wile any idea what it wold be like driving out of Atlanta as a home base?

  • @mcbam989

    No idea. Anyone?

  • @mcbam989 lots of nyc trips an fl trips 5 years greyhound out of raleigh nc

  • This was really helpful I've been thinking about the best way to get a cdl so I can drive a coach without going to a trucking school and paying 2k+ up front or being stuck in an employment contract for up to 2yrs otr driving 18 wheelers hope i will be able to now get it from greyhound then hopefully get a job driving commuter buses and have a normal M-F work week and get home every day smiler to a school bus driver without the stress of a bus full of kids

  • @mcbam989

Thanks. This is an alternative for some. For me, it's allowing me to return to work, myself, for a charter service.

  • "How to get a shitty job that takes up your life and prevents you from having a family or maintaining social relations"

  • @MasterTenku

You're right about that brother/ sister! I'm just the messenger, providing information that others can choose how to use. I like this perspective though, because it's reality. It's what more people should be seeing.

  • @MasterTenku LMFAOROFLOL. and this guy looks like a creeep its 2011 what is on his head, spygear?

  • YukSchmuck, what were some questions asked during your interview? How was the training? was it hard? I have an interview soon. I just wanted to know how rigorous I had study for the test. Any advices for a new comer? I have a CDL Class B with both Passenger and Air brake endorsements.

  • @renkyo06

Your current licensing puts you way ahead of the game from where I was. If your license is not from the state you will work out of, they may make you change it to that state once hired.

The interview/ testing is very basic, and should not be a concern. You will be pre-written questions about your abilities to provide customer service and manage difficult situations.

It's all smooth sailing from here. See you on the road, quite possibly.

  • what are some of the questiones on the math test or the hardest ones

  • @newtomlinson

Math questions were at the most 5th grade level. Funny thing was some people at the job offer were having a hard time solving the questions! Pretty much trying to see if you were retarded or not. Something like...

There are 27 passengers on a train. 12 passengers gets off at the first stop while 33 get on. How many passengers are now on the train.

Also, there was a simple map reading / comprehension with a simple grid. Very basic, yet it was very hard to many! WOW

  • You may be able to get out of it. Greyhound occasionally hires experienced bus drivers without putting them through the rigors of training. Rehires are usually included as well. This is usually determined by the manager of your hiring locale.

  • @yukSchmuck when u were in school did anyone have their cdl already? do u need experience in a coach bus i drove a yellow bus so i have my class b

  • @720ent

Many people were truckers (the people they want to get out of their habits the most!) and there were some school bus drivers. TBH, I think if you have only driven school buses, especially for a short time, they will want to train you their way. I guess only coach or city bus drivers with some time in the industry would be exempt from phase ii.

  • @720ent

Even if you did get around phase ii in school- which I'd recommend taking- you will definitely need phase iii, where they teach you the routes from your location, and have you do someone else's driving while they mentor you.

  • if you have a class b do you still have to go to NV or NJ?

  • I have my Class A CDL License, but how do I get a passenger endorcement on my Class A License?

  • @sideslide23

I am not entirely familiar with the procedure. People who were driving with class A's only had to take an add'l road test in a bus if audited. Before that, I'd thought you always have to take the road in a bus to get that endorsement. It may depend on your state, or at least the way the federal DOT enforces the law in that state.

I'd check with bus companies, like school bus companies, for more.

  • @yukSchmuck just wandering I guess your right I did the training and the road Test in the Semi, I can upgrade with Hazmat, Double triple, and or Tanker Endorcement but I can't get my passenger unless I did the training and road test in the bus.

  • @sideslide23

I think there is a procedure that you don't have to re-test, perhaps you can just drive with the class A as is, but I don't know the details since I'm a class B holder.

  • @sideslide23 I am not 100% on this but if you have your CDL-A all i believe you need to do to get your Passenger endorcement is to take and pass a written test to get the P- endorcement on your license thats it.

  • where exactly is the training corse in reno nv.

  • I was a Greyhound driver back in the mid to late 90's. We went to Richmond, VA for 6 weeks training then back home for 3 more. If you're single without young kids or a spouse, it's better than driving a truck. Like yuk said, you start on the extra board, meaning you're on call 24/7/365 and you never know exactly when you're going to be called for a run. Just when it seems like you're not going to be called until morning and go to bed, the phone rings and you gotta go to work.

  • @SlickLizard62

Yup. I remember one like that. I had literally just hit the pillow around 11 pm- hadn't slept all day to refresh from my last run- " and the call came. It was a super tough one. SEA to St. Regis, MT. There was actually an avalanche on 90 and chains required for portions.

I was lucky to have a senior driver around to help, until Spokane. At Spokane, I refreshed with a self-heating military MRE, and drove until morning. I was/ passengers were - very lucky nothing happened.

  • @SlickLizard62 If I just got my Class B with Passenger endorcement, would greyhound or Coach america would require month or years of driving experience in the motor coach like Trucking company requires month or years in the Semi?

  • @sideslide23

Coach USA has a requirement of about 2 years, Greyhound would hire you as is but insist on training you their way.

  • If you like to be treated like a 3ed grader moron go to Greyhound. Their busses are filthy unsafe junk and shouldent even be on the road. Trust me there is nothing glamerous about this job.

  • I went to the Greyhound training school in Reno Nevada. I have a very low tolerance for Bull@#$%. None of the busses would pass a D.O.T. pre trip inspection, ie Air Leaks etc.. They have a plexiglass cage that surrounds the driver, at railroad crossings you are to turn off all blowers and fans, open the window, and put the bus in neutral before proceding across the tracks. When out of the bus you must put on your glow in the dark vest. When you sit in the driver seat you must put on the seat bel

  • @jackson6963

Thank you for reminding me why never to even reconsider going back.

  • @jackson6963

LOL, please do tell more. I agree their is a lot of b.s. that is true for almost any job. But it is not just a Greyhound rule that you must stop at RR crossing and open your and look and listen for a train but that comes from the Department of Transportation.

All most all transportation companies have a rule that when you are in the drivers seat you have to have your seat belt. Also, more are requiring drivers to wear safety vest while outside the vehicle. What is so abnormal?

  • box lunch, self service cafeteria, free internet, cel phone chargers and good costumer service, you can choose your seat, several frecuencies.... and the crappy greyhound: junk buses, terrible costumer service mostly, rude drivers, a dirty "toilette"...

  • @TennesseeMX

I don't think you'll ever see bus travel here like it is in other countries. Many other places have it just like you said--it's like an airline on the ground. But, Greyhound has been in turmoil for a long time, and is not the original Greyhound, having been purchased by First Group. They don't even provide litter bags anymore! They used to, which is why there are two pegs at every seat. They were handy if you started to feel motion sick!!!!

  • @yukSchmuck

This is why I don't personally travel by bus, but train instead.

  • @yukSchmuck

eeewwww! that must suck especially because you're the one who's gonna clean that up!

  • @ie210

    Yup!

But I never had a motion sick passenger.

  • @TennesseeMX

Yeah, I wish bus travel could be like that here, but it's not going to happen. They do have new buses in some regions, with wifi, and more legroom though.

  • How Greyhound may change the auwful service to the passengers and get a new buses? In Mexico the bus service is AMAZING, Confortable, a lot the amenities, box lunch in several carriers and now the top carries using VOLVOS mostly, before used Mercedes Benz and Irizar... coach buses with 45 seats, first class with 42, bussines class with 32 to 36 and luxury class with 24 or 25 seats! Plasma screens, on luxury or bussines class every seat has a screen to music or movies to choose, 2 toilettes,

  • question i was wondering if you have to have a cdl before applying or well they help you get one? and what are the benefits

  • @Bigbottomboy

No- that's the cool thing about Greyhound. They will train you. Benefits- I don't know. Consult the local hiring manager or review their website.

  • I have i am thinking about applying at greyhound do i have to have a cdl when i apply or will the help me get my cdl

  • What kind of money do they pay for this horrible life style?

  • is a dui a disqualifier??? one year old?? put up in what kind of hotels?? thought they slept on the bus. could have sworn I saw a bunk on one. did not see anything about dui. already have class b passenger and air brakes.

  • is a dui a disqualifier??? one year old?? put up in what kind of hotels?? thought they slept on the bus. could have sworn I saw a bunk on one.

  • @circusboy90210

I'm not going to lie to you. That DUI may be the end of your commercial driving career. Of course it is a disqualifier. You didn't really believe you could get a job as a bus driver with that, did you?

  • @yukSchmuck known a few people to keep their jobs driving with a dui it's a insurance cost thing not a legal issue. all company's have different issues.however I don't see what my so-called past transgressions have to do with it. airline pilots get jobs after dui's, thoseare 747's. People have propensity to change, past performance though a good indicator of future performance is not a guarantee. I've payed my debt to society, every body deserves a second chance. If I have to I"ll buy my own job

  • @circusboy90210

Well, I'm behind you, and imagine it was a little slip in your own personal vehicle. I'm just being real, and as far as i know, will be a challenge to get any CDL job.

  • Are you doing any other driving job right now?

  • @cdubois13

Yeah. I'm working as a shuttle bus driver for the company that provides transportation services to Amazon.com, for their different buildings. I'm making decent $ and am happy to have a fixed schedule, even if I'm not driving "real buses."

  • @cdubois13 I own an ice cream truck. really wierd thing about some cdl jobs. the employer only request a local drivers report , not everyone uses daq. . so it's very possible that some company's not even know you have a dui. it's the insurance that screws you up, not the employers lack of confidence. Most people are aware that not all dui's are bad. Illegal arrests, happened in personal vehicle (may have only had 2 glasses of wine), colusion between officers. many way's to have a false dui.

  • @circusboy90210 I've driven full size 56 pax tour busses, 45 pax humvees, 42 pax escalades, super stretch 15 pax, 9 pax stretch, town cars, 3 pax mercedes s class, strech town car presidential edition, owned many licoln town cars, 25 pax mini bus, (hotel to hotel, and airport shuttle both types) owned my own airport car service, class 8 18 wheel truck(brand new freightliner after cdl school) , 24' moving trucks, 18 wheeler crate truck for moving companies, airport super shuttle diesel 15 pax van

  • @circusboy90210 5 different taxi services, 4 limo companies, 45' long river boat, piper cub (45 minutes), water supply truck for rainbow festivals, owned over 60 different sports cars, various motorcycles (lost count), false and malicioys procesuted for a crime that was not commited, not allowed to see what the digital read out read on the intoxilizer 5000, there is a print out unit on the machine and the officer wrote a completely different number down than the machine probably read.

  • @circusboy90210 was not read my miranda rights, not given the chance to goto a hospital and get an independant actual blood test, incarcerated over night though I was not intoxicated , showing any signs of beliigerence, boisterancy, or anything associated with being drunk or intoxicated, retained the services of the towns most reputable dui attourney, he told me open shut you have a rock solid case, got to court and he folded like a lawn chair, barely kept my license with restrictions on cdl,

  • @circusboy90210 and the ability to drive fraom 5 am to 11pm, (normal dui hours 6 am - 8pm and only for household reason , I drive for a living so got exception) cost $1,500 did not call any whitnesses , or ask about the intoxlizers operators operating license and when the last time the machine was calibrated blay blay , if the license is up to date, if the inspectors inspection license up to date, so you see there are reasons not to discriminate against a dui for life.

  • @circusboy90210 I know every single transportation worker in my town If I had been drinking too much I know how to park my vehicle somewhere overnight and get a ride home even if I don't have any ca$h at the time .$40 is cheaper than losing my ability to make a living. really wish I knew how to contest this with a different lawyer and say it was a mistrial because my attourney did not do his job.

  • I think this guy have adhd

  • @relly20012001

More like anxiety disorder. Nice try though.

  • how much do greyhound drivers make

  • @Bigbottomboy starting at $19 per hours plus every year, your hour rate will go up $1 like this $19 first year, $20 second year and $21 third year per hours.

  • yukschuck you are hilarious, i told my self when i was 24 that i wasnt going to greyhound there extra board is crazy, im a transit driver in north carolina is kewl. (CATS )make more videos your kewl .

  • I have a question, I'm working on the Pre trip inspection, and the practices for pre trip inspection says, " practice for this course will require you to meet with your driving instructor to learn to performa basic pre trip inspection, " whare can I find my driving instructor?

  • @sideslide23

At Greyhound training school, or within your hiring office.

  • How long does process take ?

  • There's about a 1 week, self-paced computer training which you can do on days off at the station, two weeks in training school, and another two weeks training on the road from your base.

So, a total of about 5 weeks.

  • How long after you fill out the "online" app do they call ? or do you call them ? is there a HR contact number ?

    ? Thanks

  • @hoosierdaddy81

They call u. Isn't that always the way? well, you could call each individual city's hiring manager. That might help in certain places where they really need people. Call the terminal, then ask for HR.

  • i STILL want to become a professional Greyhound Bus Driver. But the hassle is a big pain in the... I think i've applied since December of last year. some guy named "Charles Victor" the training administrator left me a message to apply for my city (which i did) but still haven't gotten any response back. I dont know what to do...i cant even get a interview or a call from Greyhound!

  • @badabingcorporatemob

Well, if you really really want to become a Greyhound driver go out to New York City. They are always short of drivers and I heard they'll hire almost about anyone out there. Get hired out there and then put in your 90 days and then at the next bid, bid to any city you want.

Somethings are automatically disqualifies you like:

*Any DUI ever, no matter how long ago.

*A suspended license in the last few years.

    *A bad driving history.

Anyway, good luck to you brother!

  • @brandondet one dui should not be a deal breaker, 2 or more shows a pattern not one . this is totally unfair to people that either really did not get a dui legall, or morally, or have changed their lifes and turned over a new leaf. everyone deserves a second chance.

  • @brandondet I live in NYC and i have my cdl-b permit my license is cleaner than clean, I applied about 4 months ago and they still haven't called me back too. I don't know if its the times or they just don't like my name.

  • what is the pay per hour? Or is it by the mile?

  • $17.50 per driving hour, at last union contract known to me. Closer for minium wage for cushioning (riding the bus somewhere,) or other non driving pay.

Probably has gone up a couple cents with newest contract.

  • so they are union, ive always wonderd about that too. I always thought that it would be cool to drive a bus, being able to drive fast and have no stupid log books and getting to drive somthing that dosent throw you out of your seat every time you hit a speed bump.

  • I'm not sure if any of those are true. I remember being bucked out of my seat plenty of times as a driver. And there are definitely 'stupid logs' to fill out.

I also got a ticket as a bus driver, but never with the Greyhound colors on the outside of the bus. You might be able to go fast, but most of those buses max out at 65 tops.

  • When was the NYC maintenance garage sold? Where do buses refuel? When I was driving, NYC was the termination for many long distance schedules and the coaches were ripe to be refueled, cleaned, and washed.

  • I'm really not sure about NYC. I was based out of SEA. But I know what you mean. Buses terminating in Seattle were quite ready for service too.

  • I already possess a CDL Class A ..so i know i need the passenger endorsement and alittle training on driving a bus. My question is...is there an appearance guideline for drivers...especially in the area of facial hair? I am muslim so I must have a beard...just wanted to know be4 I waste my time.

  • Ok, the deal on this (with Greyhound, at least,) is that you must have a medical excuse for a beard.

If you can get your doctor to sign off that you have a skin condition or something, and that you need to keep your beard, they will let you.

But they will probably require you to trim it to their standards.

    Good luck, my brother.

  • Only take a year to get a run??? Wow he is liar! in pittsburgh you dont get hold downs until your @ 2 years!....I love it thus far though

  • hey im from pittsburgh and i wanted to work as a port authority operator, but sadly there now hiring. But once i looked up greyhound there hiring in the pittsburgh area and i wanted to know what can i do to better my chances as a professional bus driver?

  • HELL IT TAKES 5 YEARS OR MORE TO GET OFF OF THE EXTRA BOARD IN VEGAS AND LOS ANGELES... maybe i need to move your way

  • @shermanford67

It takes 11 years to get a run in Detroit. Some places like White River Junction you can get a run right out of class.

  • @brandondet Yeah I worked out that way for about two weeks and WOW, I couldn't believe how busy I was deadheading but a great place to work if ya want to stay busy.

  • Yeah- I doubt it. Although, it might be possible on the Seattle board. It just might start as a relief run, or a night gig to Montana...

  • Where was your home terminal when you worked for Greyhound?I live outside of Orlando,FL also I'm wondering where they would send me for training if I did it.Also,I'm considering being a truck driver. If I get a class A CDL,will they require me to go to Greyhound school to get my P endorsement?

  • They would send you to Atlantic City, NJ. And yes, you would have to go through Greyhound school even if you are a trucker. A lot of truck drivers claim to have difficulty in the program, and the instructors are a bit biased against them because of their habits.

  • YOU DID A VERY FINE JOB. EVERYTHING YOU SAY IS THE TRUTH. i HAVE LASTED 9 MONTHS AND i CAN SAY WHAT YOU SAY IS THE TRUTH. iT IS LIKE THE MILATARY AND FOR A REASON. YOU HAVE PEOPLES LIVES IN YOUR HAND. HOWVEVER AFTER 90 DAYS AND YOU GET YOUR UNIFORM IT IS LIKE BEING AN AIRLINE PILOT. YOU ARE TREATED WITH RESPECT IF YOU ACT PROFFESSIONALLY. AND THE WOMENWAIT FOR YOU AT EVERY DRIVER CHANGE. J

  • Definitely can't authenicate this. Not like my experience at all.

  • I am in the process of becoming a greyhound driver. I will be out of philly. This year they do the application and self study online. I scored pretty high on the master test. And im going to school in atlantic city. The pay starts out at 17hr and goes up to 23 hr and u get a raise every 6 months. the philly terminal is the 3rd busiest, so that means i can work non stop all year and make as much money as i want

  • I really hope it works out for you.

For some reason, I also just applied again to Philly and had to go through that whole new application process. A little more efficient, I think, than the old way of printing out the application and taking it down to the terminal during hiring days.

I know the pay scale- Hope you do make that much money.

Just know that you'll have to chase them for certain union pay items, like 2nd rest. Know what you can get paid for and be sure they give it to you!

  • @shawnbfromjersey what kind of Q?... was on the test.

  • I was fortunate to work for Greyhound Lines from 1980-1992. Out of over 400 applicants in my area only 10 were hired. Our training was much more than what you apparently had during your short stay. I moved up from an extra board operator to dispatch and then on to CSM. I never forgot my roots as an operator. I was selected to train drivers during my employement as well. Greyhound was always a great company to work for and the employees were like family. I have the utmost respect for the drivers.

  • Calling Dallas was one of the most painful parts of the process. Apparently dispatch used to have better training too.

  • Great video! Do bus drivers ever use gps?

  • Only to their peril. (Look up Arboretum bus crash, Seattle.)

  • what is the pay? i want to become a greyhound bus driver.

  • I don't think you do. $17.50 /hr at last check, with no guarantee on hours.

  • @yukSchmuck

You are guaranteed minimum wage which is $7.25 x 40hrs x 2weeks = $580. So even if you don't work a single minute you are going to make at least $580 for the pay period. Starting pay is now $17.88 and goes up 50cents every 6 months until you reach top pay.

  • @brandondet

    What??? Really??

Is this new?? I don't remember being guaranteed a penny. Maybe it's time to get back on the board.

  • If you lived on the east coast (depending on your location), however, you'd probably be sent to Richmond or some place like that. Apparently, they have different school locations corresponding to that particular region.

  • Current known schools, East and west:

    -Reno, NV

    -Atlantic City, NJ.

That's it, unless Dallas is still open. I don't think so. Just the 2, I suspect.

  • @yukSchmuck--I hope I don't get sent to Dallas. When I contacted Greyhound, they told me there was a school in Richmond, VA, but that was last year. It can be that things have changed. Now, it looks like First Transit bought Greyhound out, and applications are filled online now. Needless to say, all the Greyhound bus terminals are in questionable parts of town (San Francisco, Tuscon, and Washington, DC to name 3 of them.) At least it's not Amtrak.

  • I don't think Dallas is open for training anymore.

You're right: 1st Group has changed and cut Greyhound a lot. They also make you wear a stupid safety vest over your uniform, wherever you go.

What's wrong with Amtrak? I would gladly work for them, and continue to apply to every Ass't conductor position I see.

  • @yukSchmuck Dallas, Atlanta and St. Louis are where other classes are held

  • Thanks for sharing. I was considering work with Greyhound. I tried to become a trucker once and it did not work out.

  • I hear that.

  • @yukSchmuck--Thanks. I can't believe it's been 2 years since I went to the awful ''trucking school'' of C1 Truck Driver Training in Indianapolis. Never go there. That place is like boot camp.

  • Thanks for the tip. I don't plan on going to trucking school again at all, although I did try a little bit before moving to class B apparatus and realizing I just wanted to drive buses. (and that I couldn't understand how to move my other piece where I wanted it.)
