Cat, it's been years since I've played...but when you're strumming, a nice grip on the pick is key. Let go of the death grip, find a medium pick, and strum some chords. Listen and watch to how it is you're strumming. Also at what type of strings you're using, heavy gauge will always give you that edgey harsh sound. Keep jammin'
