my point was firstly, i reckon when you put an english word in a chinese sentence, you need to say the english word with a bit of a chinese spin (for common words that is) to make it sound correct
and second of all, people shouldn't be ashamed of this, because this is hk culture, and no culture is really right nor wrong... i'm sick of people in hk who just adore the west
U get what I'm saying? If u do something, put in the heart and the work and do it the right way. a lot of hong kong locals just don't have the right mentality to be great. How they feel "comfortable" to misuse and mispronounce english is a sign that they have no heart to pursue quality in themselves.
I've met too many hong kong locals telling me their name was "wincent" when the spelling is "Vincent" or something similar, these guys should 1. stick with their chinese names and 2. feel embarrassed that they can't pronounce their own name right.

i found it very embarrassing to hear my fellow hong kong locals mis-pronuncing english and i think they should feel embarrassed, and not proud. if they want to have a 'culture' they can feel 'proud of', they might as well just stick with cantonese and ditch the english words (and names) they cannot pronounce properly.

I didn't include the second part of the video to try to avoid pissing people off. The point is, people shouldn't feel that anything western is supreme. I don't understand why so many people in Hong Kong think that any element of western culture is automatically better than local culture

i understand not everyone is lucky enough like yourself who have the change to learn english in a proper environment, but the truth is a lot of the hong kong locals have not put in the heart and hard work to learn and to speak english correctly (including a lot of Hong Kong locals who have a degree from Universities in Australia, Britain, US or Canada).
pronouncing 'now' and 'loud', introducing himself as 'lick' instead of 'nick': these are way too common everyday examples coming out of the mouth of hong kong locals. its scary how you said that mis-pronuncing or mis-using of english is a unique 'culture' to distinguish hong kong locals against other people.

Actually I think that it's beacuse of the wrong pronunciation of Hong Kongers. As we've been ruled by British, we will sometimes use English words to replace Chinese words which we don't use frequently, like 'shopping'. Yet, many Hong Kongers, above 30-year-old, are not educated, but they heard of the pronunciation of some words, so they followed.
lol. You can still use a 'correct' accent to pronounce English word in Chinese phrase, then everyone will know you've been living in other countries.

I remember I have read a passage, saying that 華人(Chinese, Hongkonger or Taiwanese) do not have self-confidence, they are not indeed proud of their nation. Not because of what Chinese gov. is doing, but they do not have the sense of belonging of a culture. Sad but true,that's why most 華人 eager to study English. Try to consider Japan, Germany or some other countries that is not 'English-spoken'. In Japan, only those 職業低微 needed to learn English.
