  • this guy is a BEAST! :D

love STRAY CATS and love Brian Setzer

    ROCKABILLY RULES MY FRIENDS!!!!

  • Setzer is struggling with this obviously. Stick to what you're good at man.

  • has brian ever heard cannonball rag this is worse than i can play and i play the drums wtf why is he even on here i can build a shed and make a better sound

  • not even close

  • rock on brian your my favorite guitar player and scotty moore elvis presley guitarist

  • @bigbodawg77 Dude! You need to dig on some Merle Travis!

  • Not bad for a beginner but Miki Pannella's version blows this away hehehehehe!

  • @elsoultero

beginner WTF? he made music since 1979

  • Setzer is good but the Merle Travis vid before this one is way better.

  • @shrineme I agree.

  • Ass Clown Or Not... He Sure Can Play that Guitar... And Don't You Forget It...

  • i can not spell but that was embaerising!

  • eddie cochran composed this right?

  • @50sfan14

Actually it was originally written by Kennedy Jones, but Merle Travis made it famous when he recorded it back in the 40s. You are obviously not very familar with country music if you attribute this tune to Eddie Cochran ...

  • @JohnnyReb2009 Fight Me

  • If I could not use my index finger i'd hate it. He didnt use it once I dont think.

  • @Yngsatchvai I'm pretty sure that Jerry Reed didn't use his index finger either. He tucked it in like Brian does and used his middle and ring fingers and sometimes even his pinky.

  • A lot of guitarists only practice using their left hand to build up speed and don't really practice using their strumming hand as much. So if they drop their pick they're kinda screwed. But Not This Guitarist.

  • seen better....

  • mr setzer is god

  • the Tommy Emmanuel version is good too.

  • i just saw the tommy emmanuel holy crap its brill too ...thanks for that

  • @jeffbeck147087 every tommy emmanuel version is good ;)

  • Whatever happened to Setzer?

  • hes still goin pretty strong with his orchestra. they just released a new album which is very good. im seeing them in december at their christmas extravaganza

  • if i could play this "bad" i'd be more than happy! this guy needs to prove nothing to anyone..

  • correct

  • Yeah I've gotta admit this isn't actually very good representation of Brian Setzer, it's pretty sloppy. Check out soemthing like Rat Pack Boogie for a better example of a similar thing.

And yeah the guitar sound is a bit harsh in this one. Everyone has an off day though.

  • After coming to this from the Merle Travis video of Canonball Rag I have to agree that was pretty sloppy, better than I can do but pretty sloppy none the less. Is he drunk?

  • Yeah he probobly is

  • Why don't you go yell that out at one of his concerts in the audience and see what the fans do to you. Chet Atkins said MANY good things about Brian Setzer and his playing.

  • What makes you think I'd pay to see this clown (or even go for free?) I've never hears anyone else make a Gretsch guitar sound so ugly.

  • Jealousy is a powerful thing.

  • Yes it is. So is greed, envy, and a myriad of other

negative traits. But what does that have to do with Setzer's tasteless and strident guitar style?

  • Comment removed

  • You need to grow up, kid, and listen to some decent music.

  • c'mon Brian !!!

  • man this looks like it woould be the weirdest concert ever, li ke what they thought the future would look like in the 50's for all reg humans not the brian setzer types, dig

  • Wow, Brian is one of my guitar heros. One of my biggest! But this vid is lame. Check out Merle Travis or Thom Bresh (Merle's son) or even Randy Bachman. There are SO many more. Pat Kirtley, just google Cannonball Rag. Brian, move on. Do what you do. This ain't it.

  • you're forgetting Tommy Emmanuel, his version is without a doubt the greatest.

  • Believe it or not you're forgetting Jerry Reed. He was a student of Merle Travis.

  • come on brian!

  • "A" for effort & at least knowing of the song

  • If you like this, check out the original by Merle Travis.

    Travis pickin' ...he invented it.

  • Why the heck are peeps arguing about good music? sheesh. There should be an age limit on posters so we could weed out the kids.

Love Brian's music. It Swings, it Sways, IT ROCKS.

  • Great pickin!Lame crowd

  • Other than this cut, he is the Michael Flatley of rockabilly guitar. Poze Poze Poze.

  • You, sir, are an ass-clown of the highest order.

  • That, Sir, is an insult to ass-clowns everywhere. I am a part time Minister and would gladly preside over your parent's wedding at no charge.

  • zing!

  • Explain, if you can, how someone can pretend to be able to play the guitar as well as Setzer without having actual ability.

    OR

Just keep sniping enviously at people of accomplishment with your ridiculous arrogance. I hear that's good for assuaging feelings of emptiness and inadequacy. How's that working out for you? Not too well, it appears.

  • Setzers a LongIsland boy, just like a few other great guitarists

  • Nobody works a tremolo like Brian. Hairs on the back of my neck still up when I hear it.

  • Brian Setzer is indeed from Cardiff. I know because Gamlins Music Centre sell guitars similar to the one he is using here, and I have not seen them for sale anywhere else.

  • You can't be serious when you say that, can you?

  • Good'n!

  • I agree, but this was actually a Merle Travis song, not done Chet Atkins.

  • I am awed and amazed by all of Brian Setzer's work. It is astounding how he does it all so well. But I still wonder about one thing... I understand the hair and the clothes and all that, but... what in the heck is with the guy's taste in shoes? I mean... have you ever noticed the bizarre footwear the guy is always sporting? But then again... he can play barefoot if he likes as long as he KEEPS PLAYING!!! God Bless Brian Setzer!!!

  • lmao, too funny, I just watched his "black mountain rag" vid and was thinking the same thing...though I rather like his shoes...I just wonder where the heck he gets them*L*

  • I own and play a Gretsch that's pretty much just like his, and-- looking in the mirror, I realize that Mr. Setzer might be... um... how can I put this tactfully? Short. I think those may be fancied-up, custom-made elevator shoes. However, those are also, supposedly, very popular in the U.K. so maybe that's where he gets them?

  • These shoes are called 'Creepers'. The Teddy Boys wear them. Search wikipedia for 'Teddy Boy'.

  • i think theyre creepers

  • Setzer is really short, he's always wearing platforms

  • Short or not... He plays!

  • Damn straight

  • his bass player lee rocker in the stray cats was only 5'5 and they both wore creepers ahha

  • There is no God.If there was he would look like Frank Zappa. Brian evolved through natural selection. PS He is From Wales

  • Setzer is from New York.

  • No , he is from Cardiff . You are just buying into what THE MAN wants you to think bro. Free your mind

  • That's funny; Brian says he's from New York.

May I share what you're smoking?

  • 0h sorry , I was thinking of Johnny Cash.

Of course you can have one of my Camel cigarettes sdmf. Happy to share with someone of obvious good taste

  • I was positive Cash was born in Arkansas, but I don't know about Cash like I do Setzer so enh.

    Ooo Camels; class...I like that.

  • YES

  • mmmmm.....OK.

I think Merle was much more fluid in this fingerpicking style. Setzer is more about the rock&roll.

  • I like his original flair on the Travis tune - sure it's not entirely true, but that's fine

  • Great pickin!Lame crowd

  • how the hell can anyone do finger pickin the way he does, especially with teh arc on his thumb, its amazing

  • Check out merle travis and chet atkins they really perfected this kind of stuff. setzer does a great job! but travis and atkins will always have a place in my heart for this type of stuff.

  • oh definitly!.. atkins is practicaly teh godfather of roackabilly guitar and fingerpickin in the genre.

i hav eto admit, brian really did make an impression when he came up with his own style for teh "black mountain rag , i wish i could play that exactly like him

  • atkins is totally precise. setzer is less precise on purpose, because it creates another effect. there is a video somewhere of him talking about it.

  • Merle Travis did it just with his thumb and his Index finger ;)
