I just do not think you should have a debate based on ignorant statements without knowing the facts. Yeah white people have been cruel, but so have black people. Humans are just selfish. I have to admit though things have come along way from what they used to be.

How can a slave not know they are a slave? If they were born into it and it's all they knew, they probably accepted that that was just how life was for them. They don't know any other way of life. Believe it or not, a lot of slaves were comfortable being slaves. Obviously by that I don't mean they enjoyed the experience of being a slave, but it's all they knew, and trying to escape or revolt was a huge risk that many were afraid to take.

She never received so much as a response but when she chose a less sounding black name, employers were very willing to ask her for an interview and one even offered to pay for her expenses for travelling to the interview. How can a slave not know they are a slave? If they were born into it and it's all they knew, they probably accepted that that was just how life was for them. They don't know any other way of life. Believe it or not, a lot of slaves were comfortable being slaves. Obviously by that I don't mean they enjoyed the experience of being a slave, but it's all they knew, and trying to escape or revolt was a huge risk that many were afraid to take.

As slaves, if they did what they were told and did their jobs, they'd be alive another day, but if they tried to escape they'd probably be killed or severely beaten. I don't believe she meant that they literally didn't know they were slaves. I think she meant that they were so used to their lives as they, didn't question it and they didn't want to fight it.

She never received so much as a response but when she chose a less sounding black name, employers were very willing to ask her for an interview and one even offered to pay for her expenses for travelling to the interview.
