  • can you change the message service center number

  • @charmmykitty81, you can do that with SIM Explorer, you can find it on dekart.com

  • Does it work on the I-phone 4gs?

  • Nice video! But i have the opposite problem, In whatsapp, i sent a message to the wrong person. Luckily it has not been delivered to the device itself (one green tick). I have deleted the chat on my device and rebooted, sent a "hi" to the person and only one green tick. Is there a way to cancel the sent message before it reaches the device?

  • does it work for black berry 8520 bb messenger

  • how do i recover whatsapp messages or images from my blackberry?

  • @DrakyGordon, WhatsApp uses its own storage technique, so I'm afraid I cannot suggest anything on that front.

  • @DrakyGordon hey, so did you able to retrieve deleted whatsapp messages??

  • I HAVENT KNOWEN A PHONE TO STORE SMS IN SIM CARD FOR 5 OR 6YEARS NOW, THIS VID AND ITS TECH ARE OLDHAT LOL LOL LOL

  • @cheersing4u, it is true that modern phones store the SMS elsewhere, but there are a lot of old phones out there in the wild.

Do you think they vanished automagically? Or that every person on the planet walks around with an Android or an iPhone?

    There's a niche for everything.

  • How do I recover sms off Samsung Europa phone as they don't write sms to sim card?

  • @pbrew85, you need some other method, to access the phone's memory. The approach of a smart card reader won't cut it.

  • I recently bought the SIM reader from Dekart. I installed the drivers and other software. I have and Iphone 3GS from AT&T. As I opened the program and read the SIM, it said nothing was on it. No contacts, no emails, sms, etc. I've had the phone for awhile now. Is there and explaination for this?

  • @therealmerk1, the iPhone keeps all the data in its internal memory, so the SIM card will continue to be empty, regardless of how long you use the phone.

A workaround for this case is to rely on SIM Manager's "Import from iTunes" feature - it will read your SMS and contacts from the iTunes backup.

  • @ralienpp AHAHA! your are very talented my friend. I thank you and now i do not feel so bad for my investment with your company.

  • @ ralienpp A video on that would probably help viewer as well. Looking forward to more.

  • @therealmerk1, such a video exists, have a look at this: youtube.com/watch?v=UbiyzE5NskA, or search for "Import contacts from iPhone to SIM card"

  • @ralienpp They're there. 8094 messages...the dates are ahead of themselves by a few years but that's irrelevant to me. Is there a way to select multiple and wipe at same time? Won't let me lock on one and scroll down.

  • @ralienpp The import only retreieves what is already on the phone..in this case my backup...still can not find the deleted ones.

  • @ralienpp ...what about a HTC sensation? Will it work? Pleeeease respond.

  • would this work for a tmobile mytouch 3g slide?

  • how about iphone 4?

  • Hello ralienpp, thanks for the tutiorial. I have a LG enV3, the service provider is Verizon, it's not on a data program, I would like to retrieve deleted text messages, current and deleted. Will that SIM card process work on my phone? What about a microSD card, Is the SIM card and microSD card one in the same? Can you program the phone to send text to the microSD card? And lastly, is there a way to access the phone's internal memory? Plenty of questions, Ha. Thank you ralienpp

  • Can I use this to recover and undelete and restore deleted sms messages that I stored on my sim card. I have a Blackerry Bold 9700 phone. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU VERY MUCH

  • @nguyennamnu, are you absolutely sure they are on the SIM card?

I haven't used a Blackberry, so I can't tell for sure whether this will work or not. You can give it a try and let us know how things went.

But first, I would make sure the texts are on the SIM, rather than in Blackberry's internal memory.

  • i have a japanese DoComo phone with Foma sim card... is it possible with this dekart sim card reader to retrieve deleted SMS?

  • @TheDeadlyAsian1337, Foma SIM cards seem to be derived from a 3GPP standard, so it is almost certain that the reader and SIM Manager will be able to read them. As for the possibility of recovering deleted texts - that's trickier, because it depends on the phone, not on the card.

Personally, I never tinkered with a phone used in Japan - so I really have no experience to make an educated guess about this one.

  • I have a Blackbery bold 9700. My deleted sms were stored on my simm card. can you advise me if this method will work? Thank you. Also any simm card reader will work with oyur software? Thank you very much

  • @nguyennamnu, the software requires a PC/SC smart card reader, any brand will do. I recommend Dekart SIM reader (I work in the company, so it is clear why :-)

  • Could you please tell me how to recover a deleted SMS from MEMORY CARD. I googled but couldn't able to find a better way to do that.

  • @neels1990, this depends on the case. Which phone do you have?

  • @ralienpp Thanks for ur reply, I have NOKIA E71 with 8GB memory card. Is it possible to recover any messages from it.

  • @neels1990, I've been thinking about this and there is a method that might work. You will have to make an image of your flash card, or simply open it with a hex editor and use the search function to find some keywords which are you are sure were present in the missing message.

If there's anything on the card - you'll certainly find it. Have you got any experience with such tools?

  • @ralienpp Have u got any info?

  • @ralienpp , how do I obtain deleted texts from a motorola i1 android

  • Stop invading privacy. Your brain might let you think there is something wrong but 9/10 times there is a logic explanation that you just missed. Speak sincerly to your partner and really listen and pay attention to what your partner has to say, if you still can't work it out together try couples councling, but invading privacy only leads to more trouble and problems. A relation is based on trust, if you sneak around your partners back by invading privacy you break the fundements of a healthy re

  • @tlnvanheusden20, I agree with you; and in fact I personally prefer to trust people, you can see that in many of the stories and poems I write on my site (railean.net).

This video is not about invading privacy, it is about recovering deleted SMS. You can use the method for other purposes, just like you can use a knife to cook a delicious dinner, or to cut someone's throat. Don't blame the knife, it is merely a tool in the hands of a human.

  • i dont have usb cart reader.. what can i do?? there is some other way?? can i use my Nokia USB? or this wont work? plz if anyone know...

  • @thegogo1993, this method is only applicable to the SIM card.

  • I have an old G2 Touch (HTC Hero), deleted sms messages by accident and this was shortly followed by a factory reset. I have a SIM in the phone but this is not operational anymore as I changed providers. Is there anyway I can still retrieve those sms messages from this phone?

  • @mrwaxi1, even if the SIM is inactive - the method described here will work. However, are you sure that the messages you are looking for were stored on the SIM?

Android phone keep their SMS in internal memory, so if recovery is possible, there has to be a different method.

  • can u pull up videos two with this device?

  • @woop205rep, no - the videos are stored in the phone's internal memory or on a flash card, not on the SIM.

  • Will this work with iphone 3gs?

  • @lastrelapse, if you're interested in retrieving the SMS and contacts - there's an easier approach. You don't need a card reader, just running SIM Manager will do. As of version 3.0, it can import contacts and texts from iTunes backups. I have another video about that, check it out.

  • Defo givin this a shot!!

  • what if the sim card is locked and i don't have the PUK code. will it still open?

  • @thompson8305, no - without the security codes access to the card is denied and you will not be able to read anything from it, no matter which card reader you are using.

  • you can send online funny text msg pictures at Textin.me

  • I just lost a lot of text messages due to the fact that I ran out of phone memory. Is there a way to recover those messages even they were stored to the phone and not the sim card. I have a Samsung Galaxy S (VIBRANT)

  • @whitneywinston, this approach doesn't work with Android phones, but I'll think about it and see what else can be done.

  • @ralienpp I,too, have a samsung galaxy S, model #SGH-T959, t-mobile is my provider. This evening my husband hit the factory reset button, per t-mobile's instructions, to fix my phone....ugh....all my txt msgs are gone.....help, please.....If I purchase the sim manager and card reader, like you suggested in your video, will I be able to recover my txt messages?

  • @CBartonLovesJP, the fact that the messages are not shown anymore, means that they were not on the SIM card. Therefore this recovery method won't work for you. Sorry.

  • @CBartonLovesJP hii... did u ever recover ur texts!! im trying to do it right noiw and it isnt working!! help!!!!

  • this dosent help

  • i have the LG Optimus S cant it work if my txt message data was cleared and do we have to have the usb?

  • @TheRandyj11, if the texts were cleared - then they cannot be recovered. As they are cleared, the are overwritten with other data - so recovery is not possible.

  • I have a samsung phone that does not contain a sim card. Can i still try to retrieve deleted texts? How do I do that? please help The phone did not come with software or connections.

  • @patypal77, in this case the method discussed in the video will not work; because it is designed to work specifically with SIM cards. For phones without a SIM, other methods need to be applied; I am not aware of any at this point, but I will think about it.

  • Comment removed

  • I have a Samsung Vibrant. It is an Android phone.

  • Does this method only work if the messages were manually set to store in the SIM card? My messages were stored in the phone an accidentally deleted. Will this method work to recover them?

  • @xAngelax0993, this method can only work for SMS stored on the SIM card. If you kept your texts in the phone's memory, then other tricks should be applied.

    Which phone do you have?

  • @ralienpp I have a similar problem with a Samsung t319. I was able to retrieve texts from the SIM Card, but I accidentally deleted the texts in the phone memory. Do you know what other tricks I could use to retrieve the data in the phone memory? Thanks!

  • @quickpost, we can try to access the contents of the phone's memory using AT commands, if there's a way to make it accessible via a 'virtual COM port'. Does the phone come with a cable and some software?

  • can i use this on nokia x6 and 5130?

  • @jonas0921, I haven't tested it with Nokia x6 or 5130, so I cannot tell you precisely. Do you know if the SMS are stored on the SIM card on these phones?

You can also take a look at this list, perhaps your models are there:

    lazybit.com/index.php/2010/05/20/recover-deleted-sms

  • Hi I had a Nokia 5300 and it still works but i have deleted all my messages and wondered if i could get them back or not and if i can, how?

  • @RSktch, were the SMS in the SIM card, or in the phone's memory?

  • Hi, can you retrieve deleted text from an ATT Pantech Pursuit? I read in the manual that 200 msgs can be stored in the phone memory-additional msgs will be saved to SIM card. How would I check the phone memory first for the deleted messages? I get a lot of text a day & when a message is received it is deleted usually immediately, could this be a problem? My reader is the Kodak A2271 but I don't think it is PC/SC compliant; do you sell a program that works with that card reader? Thank you.

  • @sandyfeet777, you have an Android-powered phone, do you know if it was rooted (jailbroken) or not?

  • @ralienpp Hi, I'm not sure what an Android-powered phone is or rooted-I'm not very phone or computer literate! We purchased the Pantech Pursuit from ATT with our plan a month ago. We purchased your program and reader-it should be here this week. Hopefully, I can retrieve the text from the Sim card - If not do you know how we can check the phone memory-the manual states that we can use a micro-SD card to transfer-do you know if it will transfer deleted messages to the SDcard? Thanks for any info!

  • I have a sony ericsson w580i. I just updated my phone's software. I did a backup before that (as per instructed on the step by step guide on Sony Ericsson PC Companion) but apparently, all the sms were not backed up. The sms was stored in the phone memory, not the sim card. How do i retrieve back all those sms? Please help, i have a lot of important sms in there. Thanks a lot...

  • @spectrum2306, you should look for some program that is specific to SonyEricsson phones. The problem is that each phone manufacturer uses different formats for data storage, and there's no universal tool that works. You should also try to get in touch with SonyEricsson people and see what they have to say about this.

We're planning to add a new method of extracting SMS to SIM Manager, it will use AT commands to get them directly from the phone, maybe you can try that one [when the time comes]

  • @ralienpp Thanks for your reply. I can only find discussion forum in the SonyEricsson support site. Please let me know if you find out something new. Thanks a lot.

  • i need to recover deleted text messages that where done in April from my iphone4. the phone has not been synced in a longgggg time. got the phone from att. will this work? or what else can i do pleeeeeeeeeeeeese help me if you can

  • @j23siempre, try this:

    1. backup the iphone using iTunes

    2. run the latest version of SIM Manager and see what it can extract from your iTunes database

    For more details, see: lazybit.com/index.php/2011/01/31/import-contacts-iphone-to-sim-card

  • @ralienpp

hi... im using Iphone 3gs.. and i seldom use itunes .. so wondering if those deleted sms can be recovered back from itunes? help pls... thnks

  • @lynctlling, I am not sure - but it is worth giving it a shot.

Otherwise, the chances are pretty slim.

  • @j23siempre, It is not certain if the method will work, but it is certainly worth giving it a try, you have nothing to lose.

  • How about recovering SMS from a HTC Desire HD phone? - the phone just randomly deleted all the sms on it

  • @vanessa1234vin, unfortunately I cannot give any hints related to that platform. I don't own such a phone, so I can't make any predictions.

I'll try to find one and tinker with it, hopefully that will give me some clues about recovering deleted texts from HTC Desire.

  • how about a lost sim card??will all of the data can be retrieve???

  • @asinarihays, if the SIM is lost - you can try to see if there's any information in the phone's own memory. Which phone model do you have?

  • Comment removed

  • i have the device (L M Technologies) model # lm-023.......but i don't have the software...... can i use the one for ......dekart.com ? thanks

  • @aravick01, I don't know if it is compatible, but you can give it a try; download SIM Manager from dekart.com and see if it works. The program has a 30 day evaluation period, that should be enough :-)

  • @ralienpp i tried but it doesn't work.......and guess what? he have everything stored in the phone...not in sim card!!! a have the chance to check the phone..... :S.....thank any way..........

  • how do it without sim card reader ?

  • @XPLANEFSX, it cannot be done without a SIM reader; you need the device because it gives direct access to the memory of the SIM card.

  • where can you get a sim card reeder local?

  • @20DevilDog, you can buy it online from dkart.com, worldwide shipping is available.

  • i typed it on google and i saw what i need i am not asking you where can i find it cause im from greece and it's a little bit difficult

  • @stez1100, you can buy such a reader online, delivery to Greece is fast and reliable.

  • it may be silly but i must only connect my mobile phone from the usb or do something else??:P

  • @stez1100, you need to have a PC/SC smart card reader, plug the SIM card in it, then read the card.

  • do i really need the sim reader?? or can i use the usb cord to read the info of the sim card?? i have a Blackberry tour. please help.

  • @graduado1993, you need to have the SIM reader, because it reads data directly from the SIM card, not from the phone's memory.

Using the phone's data cable only works with the software provided by the phone manufacturer, but in that case you do not get direct access to the SIM. So, in this case the SIM reader is necessary.

  • Will this work on a samsung jack phone?? Thank u

  • @crazy28d, I am not sure, it depends on whether it keeps the SMS on the SIM or in its own memory. You can check that by taking the SIM and plugging it into a different phone - if the SMS are there, then it means they are on the SIM, so recovery may be possible. If not - they are in the phone's own memory, so this method of recovery will not apply.

  • Thank you for this video! It really helped! But can i please ask if it allows you retrieve deleted contacts from the phone? Thanks!

  • Cassie, this method only applies to the SMS.

We can give it a try [there is a similar trick that can work with contacts], I'll need to look at your SIM card backup. This is how to make one: youtube.com/watch?v=ocJ4_4ZlHQs

Note that a result is not guaranteed, but I can give it a try.

  • Heyy i have the LG Env Touch and i need to get some pictures i deleted-.- can you plzzz help me cause idkk where the sim card is? and i have a cable that connects to the computer plzzz help!!(:

  • Can that software clone the sim card?

  • @Harvz78, the short answer is no. The full version of the answer is here: lazybit.com/index.php/2009/10/05/how-to-clone-a-sim-card-not

  • I really hope someone can help me because I've had these texts forever and I really want to retrieve them.

  • @titansarethefuture, congratulations with getting a new phone, that sounds like an awesome Christmas gift!

Indeed, the old phone is a CDMA phone and such phones do not necessarily have a SIM inside. If you still have the box of the old phone, check if there is a CD with some software on it. Perhaps that program, if it exists, can access the phone's memory and retrieve the data from it.

Other than that, I am not aware of a method that can work in your case, so that leaves us with several ideas:

  • @ralienpp lol I have no idea on earth where the boxes even are for my old phone but I was reading through Yahoo Answers and someone had the same problem and asked about it, and the answerer said there was a way to retrieve data if you don't have a sim card. First he said purchase a usb from the Verizon store for your phone and download this program(It's under my bookmarks, don't remember the name) and all you have to do after installing it is to open up the settings. It will ask you to retrieve.

  • - don't do this again; be conservative, you can always delete something later

    - don't trust everything sales people say; I don't mean that they WANT to lie to you or trick you into losing your data. Sometimes mistakes are just accidents and there is no evil intent, people are people

    - remember to make up backups; if you develop this habit, disasters won't be painful

You should get in touch with the person who said the texts would be transferred, perhaps they know something we don't?

  • @ralienpp So basically in short, the contributor from Y!A said to but usb for old phone, download program, and there will be a settings option and it asks to retrieve data and you press yes and all of your old texts will appear once again. Is this true??

  • @titansarethefuture, it does not sound credible to me, but I am not an omniscient creature, so take my feedback with a grain of salt.

If they can tell you exactly the name of the program that does it, perhaps show some screenshots - that would be great!

  • @dekartchronicles Why, are you having the same problem too? lol

  • ...

and if they don't, you will at least help other people because the Verizon folks won't make the same mistake again.

  • On Christmas morning I got the new Incredible HTC Droid. I've had this old phone from Verizon since 2007 and it's called the Verizon LG VX-8300. Before installing they said that all of your old phone information would be stored onto the new one(Including Texts) so I deleted my old text messages and they never even made it's way to my new phone. I believe my old phone is a CDMA so how would I go about retrieving my texts if I don't have a SIM Card??

  • recovering messages stored on your phone not your sim card?

  • @lukeclarke2006, this method only works with messages stored on the SIM card.

  • i have a verizon phone made by pantech.... it doesnt even have a sim card slot... does anyone know what i can do

  • @pfatti333, the SIM reader is not the solution then. It appears that you have a CDMA phone - some phones of this type can work without a SIM.

Your best shot is to look for programs made specifically for your phone model, perhaps there is a "data cable" you can use with it.

Let me know if you've found anything, maybe I can provide some tips after that :-)

  • is there any possible way to do this just buy plugging the phone directly into the computer and reading the SIM card right off the phone??

  • @Megahustlin, no - you need a SIM reader. The thing is that a phone does not give you direct access to the SIM card - therefore you only see what the phone "allows" you to see.

  • @ralienpp please can this work with deleted sent sms?

  • @Dammie2great, yes, it will work. The SIM card keeps all (sent, read, drafts) the SMS in the same file.

But note that these 2 conditions must be true:

    - the phone keeps the messages on the SIM, not in its own memory

    - after deletion it must NOT overwrite them

  • Does this work with iPhone and are SMS messages on an iPhone saved on the SIM card or memory?

  • @nuripersonal, the iPhone keeps the SMS in its own memory, not on the SIM.

In any case, you should try the latest beta of SIM Manager, see this video for more details: youtube.com/watch?v=UbiyzE5NskA

  • i've got HTC HD2 Device .. is it possible to recover the text messages ?

and if , is it on the sim card or the sd card ....

need your help soon = (

  • and is their a difference between pc/sc and the Sim card reader ?

  • @murhaf07, I can't tell you for sure, but I suspect this phone keeps the SMS in its own memory, not on the SIM. If that is the case, the method described in this video is not going to help you.

I will research the platform and see if I can up with anything for the future versions of SIM Manager, but I'm afraid I won't be able to provide an instant result.

If it is on the SD card, I could take a look at the raw data of the SMS file and see if something interesting is there.

  • Does this work for sd cards and do I need special card reader?

  • @06presley, no - this one is only for SIM cards, and it requires a PC/SC smart card reader.

If your phone keeps the SMS on a flash card, you can try other recovery methods. Tell me, which phone model do you have and what makes you certain that the SMS are on the SD card?

  • "I am probably lying" . . . "impossible to recover in 10 out of 10 cases". Was this misspoken, or is this entire video a joke?

  • @emeboteerf, it was not misspoken, I'd say it was misheard :-)

If you play it again and listen carefully, I say that someone who advertises a 10 out of 10 recovery chance is probably lying, because there are some constraints you can't overcome, by design.

So - no, this video is not a joke, the information it provides is valid and you can confirm it by checking the technical specs of SIM cards.

  • @ralienpp I see, thanks. Not misheard, but misunderstood. I took "underlying principles make it impossible to recover SMSs in 10 out of 10 cases" to mean that in all cases ( "10 out of 10") the SMSs would be impossible to recover. From your response I gather that you meant that in some (undefined number) of the cases out of 10 the SMSs would still not be recoverable.

  • Does this work with iPhone that is synced to windows computer??? Please answer.

  • @skintyte1, support for iPhone is planned for the next release. I think it will be ready some time in October, and a beta version will probably be available by the end of this month.

  • I have a Samsung Rugby from AtT&T. How can I find out if I can recover deleted texts or not? Also how many SMS messages keep on a sim card?

  • @mhtitleist, the number of stored SMS depends on the SIM card, I cannot answer that qestion. Usually a SIM can hold around 20 texts, but your mileage may vary.

Regarding the recovery of deleted SMS, I haven't tested that phone, so I really can't tell. First verify where the SMS are stored: plug the SIM in another phone - will you see the messages there?

  • i downloaded dekart sim manager 2 but there's no option for undelete sms. is it bec. it's just a demo version? Will it work anywhere in the world?

  • @megameinfocus, the demo version does not have any limitations (except that it won't work after 30 days).

Yes, it works anywhere in the world.

As for the SMS - do you see any SMS at all? Or do you mean that you don't see a "SMS" section on the SIM after you read it?

What about the other sections of the card? Do you see the phonebook, the own numbers, etc?

  • i downloaded dekart sim manager 2 but there's no option for sms. is it bec. it's just a demo version?

  • What Sim card reader would you reccomend me to use??...

  • @babybach08, this one: dekart.com/store/special_offers/sim_man2/

  • @ralienpp ok thanks!

  • Can I Not Somehow Do This By Just Linking My Phone Up To My Laptop Via a USB Lead?

My Phone Is A Nokia 5530.

    Thanks.

  • @walkanaghan, no - that is not going to do the trick.

In that case you are not going to be accessing the SIM card directly; instead you'll be dealing with it via a set of abstraction layers. In other words - you do not have access to the raw data, thus you cannot make such low-level manipulations.

  • Do you know how many sms records a t-mobile sim card can hold?

  • @1Kaba1Ummah, I have no idea, sorry.

I do know that even for the same operator, the cards can be of different capacities, depending on when you bought them.

Why can't you simply put the card in the phone and explore its contents there?

  • @ralienpp, I noticed in your video that when he pressed the read button the max number i saw was 250. does this mean that if there are more than 250 sms messages that it be able to view them all?

  • @1Kaba1Ummah, SIM Manager can read as many records as the SIM can hold.

The SIM card in the video, can hold up to 250 records in the address-book, and 20 (if I recall correctly) SMS.

If you have cards with a greater capacity, SIM Manager won't have a problem with that.

  • IS IT MAYBE THE TYPE OF CARD READER IM USING OR SOMETHING BECAUSE IT WILL NOT LET ME READ THE CARD...DO I HAVE TO HAVE THE TEXAS INSTRUMENT CARD READER??

  • @YellowErrythanq, SIM Manager works with any PC/SC compliant card reader.

Make sure you're using the latest version, the current one is 2.9:

    dekart.com/pub/products/SIM%20Manager%202/current/English/SIMManager.exe

To troubleshoot your problem, see my other video (about installing smart card readers).

  • Please remember. . I have read that this will NOT work in Verizon, sprint. . or any phones that are on CDMA network.. . .AT&T is GMS. .that is the only reason i am going to try it on my target phone it is an older Nokia on AT&T. . .Verizon phones dont have SIM cards anymore. they have SD cards. . different.

  • @goooogrrr, it makes sense.

If there is no SIM in the phone, then naturally, a SIM card reader is not going to help you in any way.

Note that there are some CDMA networks that _do_ use SIM cards; but I have absolutely no experience with them, so I cannot make any predictions.

I'll ask a friend of mine about it and let you know what I found out about the behaviour of such phones.

  • @ralienpp oh by the way ralienpp. . . how many calls received and dialed does it show? and how many texts does the software show. .like 10 or more?

  • @goooogrrr, the answer is 'it depends on the SIM'. In other words, the program will read everything that is on the card, so it is just a matter of how much memory is on the SIM.

Some cards can hold 20 SMS, others just 5. In any case, SIM Manager will read everything that can be read.

  • @ralienpp i know i keep asking questions. sorry. . I know that sometimes the sim is locked by the service provider or not usually? If so, i have seen offers on the internet for codes that will unlock a phone from anywhere from like 5 dollars to even $1.99 . . is that to unlock the phone or the SIM. . do you know anything about this? I know alot of these people on here posting that it isnt working for them might have SIMS that are locked. . .im just wondering how this works.

  • @goooogrrr, you can have a locked SIM and a locked phone.

The advertisements are most likely about unlocking phones, which is possible if you have the right tools.

It is not going to work with SIM cards. These cards are smart cards, they have an operating system inside, with a processor and other bells and whistles designed to make it tamper proof.

If you enter a wrong PIN several times, the SIM is blocked. You can only unblock it be entering a PUK. If you fail to provide a right PUK, it is ..

  • @goooogrrr, after entering an incorrect PUK multiple times, the SIM is _permanently blocked_ and nothing can be done about it.

If you're dealing with a blocked card,or a card for which the PIN is enabled, you will not be able to perform any kind of recovery. Without the PIN you don't have access to the contents of the card and you cannot get past this constraint.

This is enforced by the operating system inside the card; there's no way to reset the PIN - SIMs are designed to withstand that.

  • can both sent AND received deleted messages be read?

  • Comment removed

  • @goooogrrr, both. It reads the drafts too (i.e. the ones that were not sent, nor received).

  • @ralienpp ok. . I'm looking at the cell spy sim card reader beingsold by Brickhouse security and others. . .im not sure it reads both. . .do you know of this one?. . .or which one is sure to read both ins and outs. . .deleted

  • @goooogrrr, the one from Dekart reads all types of SMS stored on the SIM. The possibility of recovery depends on how the phone handles the messages; you can use this reference table: lazybit.com/index.php/2010/05/20/recover-deleted-sms?blog=2

It is not complete, but it is a good starting point.

One more thing - you can buy the Dekart reader from Lazybit with a discount, so that's another plus.

  • @ralienpp actuall they have a deal at the Dekart site that includes the software and the reader for 40 bucks . Others are selling these for 100 dollars on up. you say this one has been very effective. so maybe it is just a money maker for these other companies. I am on a tight budget so I hope it works.

  • @goooogrrr,hmm.... I see, it is because you looked at the cost of the bundle + shipping; while on Lazybit the cost of shipping is not shown. If you add that, it will be greater, but still a bit less.

Re:other companies- I know that other solutions exist.Docs on dekart.com clearly explain how SMS recovery works, the GSM specifications confirm that the SIM behaves as described.

It doesn't matter what the cost is, a program won't be able to do more than the spec allows it to. So why pay more?

  • @ralienpp oh well. . I am dealing with phone (NOKIA 3120) that stores SMS to phone and not SIM . . . i just found out.. . . oh well. thanks anyway!

  • @goooogrrr, are you sure? Usually phones have an option in the menu which allows you to choose where the SMS should be kept.

In any case, this wasn't a waste of time, since you've acquired some knowledge that might come handy in the future :-)

  • @ralienpp i didnt actually see you showing the actual text message in the video. . . can u read the actual message? or just the numbers

  • @goooogrrr, you can read the whole message, not just the timestamp. The example isn't very goos, as the shown SMS are sent by an robot and they say how much credit is left in the account.

Scroll to 3:40 to see what I mean.

  • Could you give me the name of the usb brand or a website that sell this stuff

  • @isbtr, the device in question is Dekart SIM card reader. You can get it here: dekart.com/store/special_offers/sim_man2/
