They're probably eating that box because you haven't fed them any real food... My guinea pigs start to eat other things besides real food when you forget to feed them.

Be careful with boxes and cardboard though... It might cause intestinal blockage. =/

@punksk8r1792 I'm not sure about that. My guinea pigs would eat everything, even when they had plenty of food. Their favourite thing to chew on was their little wooden house... They turned the window into a second door and ate the roof. :D

@Monstertexas70 Uh... Not usually and you'd probably be able to tell if they did have rabies. Even if there was a strain of rabies is wherever you got yours, they probably would have been given shots for it.

ur not supposed to let themeat paper or caedboard cuz their bodys cant digest them thats how my first guineapig died. guinea pigs dont have a gagreflex so when they eat sumthing that clogs their intestines they cant throughup anything so they could get out the paper or cardboard

But I have to say that I agree with alania421, that you have to use a box without ink, also the newspapers aren't good for them, they can eat of it if they are hungry and there is also ink on it, you can use straw or sawdust ;)

@ImLaraCroft Sawdust is probably about as bad as it gets for their respiratory systems, whereas newspaper is okay because it uses vegetable dye-based inks. In fact, they use it to line the piggies' cages at my vet's, and these are people who have been awarded Washingtonian Magazine's Best Vet Care honors in previous years. I understand your concern, but I think these piggies are probably just fine :)

@ImLaraCroft I had piggies for 33 years and newspaper doesn't bother them one bit. My pigs were notorious "box biters" and it is GREAT for their teeth. Guinea pigs' teeth grow continuously and they work to keep them from growing too long by chewing constantly. Cardboard is GREAT for them and newspaper is fine. They should eat Timothy Hay and veggies/fruits and guinea pig specific pellets but they are supposed to chew all the time. This person did nothing wrong.

They can actually eat and digest cardboard, but it shouldn't be glossy. It has to be plain white or brown without sheen in it. No dyes.

@CheesePuffChick You don't want any type of ink on it. I don't prefer paper.. I usually let mine chew on paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls. As long as they don't have left over glue and are either white or brown :)

@bigpie23 That is an urban myth though can be true if their diet is nothing but cardboard such things as toilet roll tubes can be very benificial to guinea pids it keeps them from being bored wears down their teeth slightly and they are guinea pigs if they had nothing to chew on like cardboard they would chew the plastic from their cages which is very bad for them.

@Katie566 what it means is they dont see eye to eye and its a warning signal, a "Hello , dont annoy me any more! " gesture. if one raises its head higher by lifting off the ground on its rear legs its trying to say " Annoy me any more and i`m going to bite you "
