i don't see the point of a rear laser detector. laser has to be stationary, so you don't have to worry about a mobile bogey hitting you with laser....
I think vertical placement of a radar detector is subject to debate.
In the case of an externally mounted radar detector like the Escort Passport 9500ci or Beltronics STi-R I decided to place the external antenna low and behind my vehicle's bumper fascia so that it has the best chance of seeing radar that may come through any vehicle which may be ahead of me.
Keep in mind that "high" in the case of an externally mounted antenna is not the same as high inside the vehicle.

i'd have to be a complete idiot to mount a radar on the bumper. Lets say you'll hit a car and you're gonna lose a $1600 radar. gl with that
