although i don't know how the discussion about languages started, i want to join in. i personally think, that german is a bit more difficult at the beginning, but it gets easier with time. english is the other way round. the basics are "simple", but then you have to learn every exception. i'd say french is the easiest of the three, but i have serious problems with all those nasal vowels and sometimes with the accents.

@Accisma Actually, it DOES work that way. Many languages might have words that can APPROXIMATE the intended meaning, but English has more adjectives than any other language. English is able to describe things more precisely. Where another language might have one word that describes something perfectly well, English might have fifteen different words with various connotations which can more clearly express the intended meaning. Words like acrid, pungent, astringent, amaroidal... bitter.

English is one of the most easiest languages worldwide.. Thats why it became so popular. Its so easy to learn, while other languages are much more complex. There are much words in german to descibe something (in generall), then in english. I am sure about this.

Because you're making claims like that, I'm sorry to tell you that your English isn't all that good.

English didn't become the dominant language because everyone agreed on it. It became the dominant language because English speaking countries became dominant. You grew up hearing English, so it was easier to learn.

German grammar is a bitch, but from my understanding, more formulaic. English grammar is more about it just sounding right to a native speaker.

I am german nativ and grew up in germany. I just learned english in school, from the age of 14 till 19, but same goes for latin or french (u chose between those and got the 2nd later on)

Finally, in germany all movies are dubbed, even the PC games..

Being a native English speaker that has studied several other languages, English is one of the most confusing and contradictory languages ever devised. German, by comparison has less exceptions, less homonyms, and very few weird spelling quirks.

English is the hardest to speak correctly and Chinese is the hardest to write. Most other languages have consistent rules as they are based on a smaller merging of cultures.

I'm not trying to sound superior for speaking my native language. I'm more just saying that I can understand why people don't who have to learn it. I was taught German in high school and really thought the language was vastly more logical and had easier syntax to understand. Once you get the basics of pronunciation and sentence structure, you just need to add vocabulary to get the whole.

English isn't that lucky and has thousands of exceptions to every rule.

Except dubbed versions often lack the original director's guidance, the actors' intent, and quality in general.

Not to mention the primary reason simply translating into subs presents any problems at all is that English has a vocabulary ten times the size of most other languages.

@shmerokee Ganz deiner Meinung. Als ich noch kleiner war, war halt eben nur Deutsch möglich. Inzwischen bin ich ein großer Fan der Originalsprache (Sei es Englisch, Deutsch, Französisch, Japanisch etc.) und schau mir einfach einen Sub in einer Sprache an, die ich verstehe, denn auch Englische Dubs' zerstören das Filmerlebnis. Die englischen Synchronstimmen (grad bei Animes) sind manchmal SO GRAUSAM :D

@Xshaped Working as a translator, I've learned that people can have some serious troubles with colloquialisms. So sometimes not even subtitles are enough, and the meaning or humor is totally lost. And it doesn't matter what language things were originally recorded in...

Personally, I think they should show more English- or Swedish-subbed movies or series in Spanish, French and German where I live. Would have made it much easier for me to learn German and French...

"runter" means down in german. "runtergang" is a neologism, you usually say "untergang" which actually is a demise or downfall. so it makes no sense at all. *lol*

I interpret the entire video sexually. Data is fully focused on dominating a cat - he doesnt even acknowledge Geordie who tries to stop it but then succumbs and watches. And Picard watches the whole thing and really likes it. Plus the episodes name is Down Fall -- this can be applied to everyone in it. The German makes it all the more kinky and sick.

If this isnt dark then I dont know what is.
