Hush now, don't explain Just say you'll remain Unless you're mad, don't explain My love, don't explain What is there to gain Skip that lipstick Don't explain You know that I love you And what loving does All my thoughts are real For I'm so completely yours Try to hear folks chatter And I know you cheat Right or wrong, don't matter When you're with me, sweet Hush now, don't explain You're my love and pain My life's your love Don't explain
@ThankYouAndHello Nina's sounds like she's talking rather than singing.. she loses the beauty of the melody, diana's version captures the beauty of the song the best out of these 3.
You wouldn't think twice if it were old blue eyes! She is spot on, singing her story as if a Billie Holiday influence as jumped inside her soul. Don't be so easy to judge. Just let it take you. Then tomorrow learn some music history. I love you all and Lisa the most! She nailed it!
Great performance - Love it but I cant watch the smoking - sorry so I'm just listening. but its probably becasue I'm an ex heavy smoker. Doesnt seem to be affecting her voice though and she's not the first to smoke while singing.
although i generally like lisa, this is a pretty mangled version of a classic, utterly misunderstanding the emotional currents beneath it. i don't think the cigarette in the holder is theater...more likely she was high and wanted a cigarette. the only thing worthwhile here is the sax...he gets it. go for an early billie holiday recording, or better still, helen merrill....
Absolutely best performance of this beautiful classic. The impressive arrangement in a perfect harmony with Lisa's velvet voice. I don't mind the theatrical smoking. It just gives the performance the old time jazz club feeling (what Ronnie's actually is).
Traditionally Jazz was played and sung in smoky bar rooms by sultry singers! People came to listen but they also came to drink and smoke....they still come to drink and listen..and smoke...but maybe not tobacco....
WOW
I band of people all feeling the sounds & meaning

Lisa should stick to what she knows, and stop trying to sit with the big GIrls and the big songs.

the smoking looks ridiculous and I don't really like her version of this beautiful song. she puts too much of a show into it.
I like it more simple and sad, like it is intended ( I think )

she makes smoking look so cool, I wanna look like this if I did smoke, I why does she remind me of Ellen,
I love Lisa S. , I don't like Billie H doing her own songs, let Lisa or Diana R. do em
trumusicgen 2 years ago
Why are you smoking Lisa? Does that perhaps explain the change in your appearance?
cljar 2 years ago
is she smoking to set the mood? does she think jazz has to involve smoking? drinking etc?? talk about cliched.

Great sax but this song is not Lisa's thing
smitschagen 2 years ago
So many have covered this song... No one has managed the original by billie Holiday.
The cig maybe to give her voice huskiness. Many singers do that just before they go on stage.
check out also Angela Mcluscky's cover.

listen it from susei arioili not in the tube i am sorrry but this is better than billie's.

I like the sax better than Lisa (this is not her best song in my opinion)

i hope that cig was just a prop and she doesn't really smoke. won't do her great vocals any good.
