It's funny when I was a teenage kid listening to this and other Skynyrd songs I just thought they were cool and rebellious and nasty and fantastic with the triple lead guitar attack. Now as a middle aged guy I hear poetry and melody that makes me weep for the memories of my parents and how they tried to guide that mixed up adolescent Skynyrd listening kid they had. This was played at my cousins funeral last week. I didn't get to go to the funeral and I never even got to meet him. He was shot to death by couple of cunts who called themselves "robbers", at his job at a resturant. He was only 23. It was a simple job and only did it to pay bills and take care of his family. I never got the chance to know him, but listening to this song brought tears to my eyes..... He was a good Man.

I disagree although sympahize with those of you who are saddened by this song at the memory of a loved one. I feel uplifted and happy when I hear this song. It makes me want to be a better, simple man. I feel like if they play this at someone's funeral you should know it's not to make you cry when you hear it but to listen to the last message and teaching the lost loved one is telling you through this song.
