  • I'm trying to make a game in which the directions of my character are each a different object so there's up, right, left, and down. So is there a way that I can make the view switch to follow the object that the character is at the time?

  • @DKrank262 Yes and you're on the right track with this video:

If you want all characters / objects visible at once, create four views side by side (this tutorial), and use the room / view settings to have each view follow one of your objects. If you want one view that follows the one you're interacting with currently, create one view, have the view follow an invisible "camera obj" you create, and program your game such that the camera obj follows / jumps to the active character.

  • very interresting tutorial! (: keep it up!

  • That was a cool tutorial, LOL, showing it drawn out on paper is different, but is an interesting way of explaining things.

I have been experimenting with views, and have gotten things to work really good for the most part, but I never really thought about using two views or understood the purpose for having multiple views, but using it to create a border, well, that is a great idea!!!

I think Hypercam is a pretty good screen capturing device, and it is free :)

  • Thanks, I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful!

I clicked on your page and saw you're making a sidescroller; using views as a border would be appropriate, good place to put your health bar or score.

And thanks for the screen cap suggestion!

  • Way to go working it old school :)

  • Thanks Ken! One of these days I'll probably buy a screen capture program - I have Fraps for games, but I'm open to suggestion for GIMP / Game Maker video capture options :P
