  • it's explained in the book.

  • dud its called a paradox... lol take some math and physics classes you'll get it..

  • It WAS pretty confusing.. First half of the movie I didn't know what exactly was going on. But the second half was more important. I actually enjoyed the movie..

  • :) nice review. just finished watching the movie and i was kinda disappointed with it. your right when you say that the film itself was phenomenal, but they just changed and left out way too many things from the book. :(

  • clare met henry from the future in the past then waited for him exactly how you said. you're making this harder for yourself to understand than it actually is lol. They don't need to include it in the movie because it's easy to figure out.

  • He went back and met her after she met him in the future. That's how. It's not that hard to understand :/

  • Just saw this movie five mins ago. it was really good & i cried at the end. so sad & touching...

  • just watch the movies to day i love it so good:)

  • In the book henry meets six year old clare when he is 36 and clare introduces herself to henry when henry is 28.

  • yea as you can see from everyones comment ur "plot hole" is explained quite easily (9 minutes and 38 seconds into the film)

  • I LOVED this movie. :) I cried, it was amazing, it owns my soul.

  • Eric,

she introduces herself to a younger Henry.

It's not the same time traveling Henry from the meadow.

  • I read the book and this is how it goes: 36 yr old Henry meets 6 yr old Claire. Later, 20 yr old Claire runs into 28 yr old Henry by accident. 28 yr old Henry doesn't know Claire; 36 yr old Henry met Claire when he was 28. The time is going by Henry's life clock, not Claire's. So Henry doesn't see little Claire till he is 36. Time still functions in a somewhat linear way.

  • As many people have probably already pointed out to you, Henry time traveled to meet Clare when he was in his thirties and Clare was just a young girl. However, when Clare meets Henry in present time, (Clare is 20 and Henry 28) Henry hasn't yet time traveled to meet Clare. Therefore, even though Clare knows Henry when she meets him at 20, she has met him before as an older man when she was a young girl, present day 28 year old Henry hasn't yet met Clare. Read the book for a better explanation.

  • Yes i completely agree! It is one of my favorite movies!

  • or, they met in the future, and because their love was too strong, and because he knows that he is going to die too soon, he goes in the past to make things go faster, thats why when she meets him she is already prepaired because she knows that he is the one, this is my opinion...

  • The loop you discribed isn't really a plot hole. It was almost certainly done on purpose (and I have the impression it wasn't the only case of this). What this comes down to is cyclical causality. A causes B, which then causes A. Given that time is shown to be static in the story (you can't change what happens), this cycle must be something that spontaneously emerges. If they had tried to explain it in the movie, they would either have to come up with cheap technobabble, or break their own rules

  • @Nibor7301 By the way, agree on the review. Great movie.

  • You can't explain it. It's a classic timetravel loophole.

Amazing movie. Indeed, one of the best of the year. Goes in my top 5 love stories. So unconventional, so beautiful.

  • Absolutely agree! Good review I agree with. Great great movie, but the problem was amendable and...well, yes, out of emotion....I forgive that

  • They did try to recreate The Notebook.

  • @upinflamezzz No way. This is WAY better and I used to be a total Notebook lover. But this movie was just...omg

  • it really really sucked compared to the book they left a bunch of junk from the book

  • 1.put ur hands on ur chest

    2.think of some1 u like

3.tomorrow that person will ask u out or tell u they luv u

    3. press F10 5 times

    4. send this to 5 youtube videos

    5. look at ur backround

  • It was hilarious when the old Henry came to the 6 year old and he was all naked. My Dad told me, Heather if an old man pops up behind a bush and tries to be your friend.....Run. =]

  • Okay, this is in the book i guess its not explained in the movie.

When Henry went back to time travel to Clare's past..he was in his 30's and above.

However, Henry first met Clare when he was 27. So when clare saw Henry again he had never time traveled.

  • 2 think of someone you like

    3 press f10 five times

4 send this to five youtube videos

    5 look at your background

    2. think of someone you like

3.tomorrow that person will ask you out or say i love you

    4. the catch put this on 5 videos in an hour or will not work

  • i think your problem with this movie is even worse with the terminator films. like how john connor sends kyle reese back in time to father himself....haha. i don't think it needs to be explained, that's just how time travel movies are.

  • it's not a plot hole. its a time loop. the question is always "what happened the first time to create the time loop?" well, its either a loop and it ALWAYS happens the same, or its not and things always happen different (which makes the story pointless if the story always happens differently). so for stories at least, the time loop is better. but in reality, the constantly changing history is more likely.

  • you pretty much said everything i felt about this movie

  • henry meets clare when he's 28 and she's 20. then because he's met her he starts time traveling back to her childhood, when he is 36 and she is 10 - the first time. if you dont understand, then read the book! moron

  • One of the best movies ever, very touching, loved them, they're such great actors!! xDxD =D

  • I think that probably he had to say it to make her believe that in the future they're friends.. beacuse they are, actually, they become friends. It'a hard to explain, but what if he went to her as a lillte girl after he's been far forward in the future, when they're actually friends? I didn't read the book though, so I dunno what really happens in the book, probably it's less confusing. I'll read it, I promise. Take care and don't keep wondering nor think over it.

  • watched it great movie...wondering if i should read the book?

  • You should !

It´was one of the best books I´ve ever red...

in fact, I had red it before I saw a movie... and I was quite afraid how they gonna do it, but it was excellent!

  • same here! i loved the book and i really liked the movie i think they did a good job!

  • I am so sooory! I wanted to give a figer up, but I pushed down-one ....

Sorry! I absolutely agree with you (A)

  • haha its cool

im glad they made the movie less sadder (if thats a word) than the book :)

  • I´m not sure if it was less sad ...

I was crying at the end of both :DDD

    It was simply beautiful (Lň

  • oh yah i was crying in both too !! haha

    lol

    i was simply beautiful lol

  • Okay, let me explain this: 6 year old Clare meets 35 year old Henry who travels back in time to see her. This continues until she's about 18, but it's always been an older Henry, with short hair. When she's 20, she meets 28 year old Henry, with long hair. Clare recognizes him immediately, but Henry doesn't recognize Clare because he hasn't traveled back yet to when she was a kid. That's how you know: Short hair Henry knows little Clare, long hair Henry does not, because he hasn't been there yet.

  • in the meadow wen henry met claire he was like 40 something but wen he met her l8r he was 30 something

  • Well I think when Henry talked to Clare as a little girl, that was after he and older Clare met and fell in love. Henry first met little Clare when he was old, so before that he didn't know anything about Clare. It's based on a book, so if you want to understand it a little bit more, try reading it. It's really good. :))

  • Awesome flick, you can watch it for free at Movies-Showing . com

  • i loved this movie. so beautiful .

it had me and my BOYFRIEND in tears.

  • PART 2

If you try to find the beginning of this relationship you'll find yourself in an unending loop of he meets her who meets him who meets her who meets him... and so on. You can try to find the start but I am very sure you can't.

The problem I have with the answer in this video is that they can never randomly meet as adults ever. Claire knows Henry since she was 6. Thus, no random unfamiliar meetings can ever take place from her point of view beyond that age.

    Hope everybody gets it.

  • read the book, it'll fill you in.

good review, i agree with you 100%

  • I watched the movie and I loved it, but I had the same problem as you had with it...I'm reading the book right now, hoping it will explain that :).

  • Comment removed

  • I know from readding the book not sure about the movie but Claire met Hennrry inthe medow in september 26 1977 when she was six.

hennry met clare october 26 1991 whe she was 20 thats how come.

  • Great Movie...I love It!!!

  • youre stupid! read the book and their connection is not confusing what so ever!

  • I just read the book, and now I want to watch the movie. I'm trying not to expect much, but this review sounds good.

In the the real world, Henry is 8 years older than Clare. So, when Clare is six, somewhere out in the world, Henry is 14.

Time Traveling Henry meets Clare for the first time when he's 33, and she's 6. Real Time Henry has never met Clare yet until he's 28, and Clare is 20. He has no idea who she is, but she knows exactly who he is.

  • yea it makes perfect sense

  • 1.21 GigaWatts!!!!

  • Don't worry dude, I know what you're talking about despite the fact that everyone else is explaining what you already know. It's because they are only 2 dimensional.

It's called a time paradox. It means it has no beginning.

  • Okay, well, half of the movie has to do with the concept of destiny. He tries to save his mother several times, and nothing works, because things are going to happen a certain way no matter what.

The time traveler, even though he is a catalyst for destiny, doesn't nessecarily mean he escapes it himself.

So the time paradox that is formed through their relationship is only explained by the simple fact that they were meant to be together. It was their destiny.

    A perfect circle.

  • If you read the book, that bit is not confusing at all!

  • no. henry goes back to little clare after he's met future clare. They showed that first just to clarify to you that clare knows henry. and i agree. its one of my favorite books and one of my favorite movies. they cut out quite a bit though, but its understandable.

  • the movie was great!

  • It's explained in the book...which is easily one of the best of the year. The chemistry of Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams was so amazing I felt like I had to look away at points haha.

  • wen u were trying to explain tht, i wuz just sitting here going like......wht?

LOL i watched it three times and now i get it

  • Wait! This is how i understand it. She married the Henry that was meant for her, but she spend her childhood with the future Henry. So her present Henry, the one meant for her, doesn't know her the first time they were suppose to meet because they haven't actually met yet. And because he was the younger one, i think he was 28, and they were suppose to meet when he was 36 so he has to wait until he reach that age to actually meet the 6-year old Clare.

  • reason for confusion

    ;)

I found it out by reading the book

I would recomend giving the book ago before the DVD comes out

    :)

    explained a lot

    :)

    xxxx

  • if you have read the book, than you would've known. he is different ages..

  • The reason why that one part in the movie you say is confusing happened, is because there are different versions of Henry. For example Henry who is 25 would not know what happens when he is 40. That's why when they meet in the library near the beggining of the movie he doesn't know who Claire is because it is his younger version. He's not as old as he was when he went back in time and met her as a little girl, which explains why Claire knows so much about Henry when he first meets her.

  • thats really simple because henry was in late thirties and forties when he met clare when she was a child. that's why he has no idea who clare is when he meets a grown up clare when he is in his twenties cause meeting up with with a child clare has not has happened for him yet.

  • I think when Henry first meets Claire that's when their timelines actually meet. From what I understand there are different versions of Henry so Henry at 25 wouldn't know someone he met at 30. Because it hasn't happened yet. Does that make sense? Hope that clears it up.

  • I read the book about 3 years ago and I soo cried when it was over. Yesterday I watched the movie and I really liked it! Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams did a great Job!! The effects, the "in which time I'm now?" - they did it all great. and the best thing is... My sister didn't read the book and she also understood the whole movie. that's often the biggest problem with literary adaptions.

Would like to see it a second time!

  • By the way, it's not a plothole about the hole time traveling thing. If you read the book, you'd understand =)

  • no, no, no. this is my favorite movie. i'm reading the book now. you should too. henry didn't know clare until she met him in the book store. then she knew him and they lived on.. blah blah blah. so when henry and clare are like 30 and 35, henry time travels back to when clare is little and says hey whats up and leaves. so technically, clare met henry far far before henry met clare, but he just didn't know it yet. got it?

  • umm two tihngs I have to say on your reply to me lol: 1) I watched it with nothing but gils, and we all disliked it and 2) i'm gay so I have no problem with saying i love or hate a movie. there's no excuses for this movie lol =D peace out.

  • because the older henry met clare as a little girl thats why the present henry have no idea

  • im in the middle of the book and have not yet seen the movie. but if i get you right it's because henry was like 40 when they met and clair was little. so when Clair grew up and met 25 year old henry that was real time, not travel time. Cause remember it's almost like there's two henry's: one in real time and one who travels. So to her she was always meeting the traveling one and never the one in real time.

lol it's much more clear in the book and I've never seen the movie.

  • I'm in the middle of the book :)

  • Book is amazing!!! i wanna see the movie, the reason Clare knows Henry when shes 20 and he doesnt is cause when she met him when she was 6, he was in his 30s or 40s and traveled back to when she was 6

  • I'm reading the book now and I love it and I can't wait to see the movie =)

  • henry was older when he met clare when she was a little girl. so clare grew up knowing the older henry and so when she finally crossed paths with the younger henry it is their first meeting for him so he wouldnt recognize her

  • i agree with ya on how good it is. saw the movie, found out it was based off a book and then went out and got the book and read it in 6 days

  • it was so sad in the end of the book how henry died in claires arms, but when he was reunited when claire is 82 it was just amazing! i have yet to see the movie but the book is phenomenal!

  • i read the book and have not yet watched the movie but since you said it was so good ill probably watch it :)

  • I watched this with my friends and there were only five other people in the theatre with us and we were laughing the whole time.... the movie was not romantic, the pacing was too fast then to slow then all over the place, and yes the acting was alright but it wasn't a good movie. Might I add the ending when the girl says "look here's gomez's kids..." or whatever she says that that was the funniest part of the movie, and if you saw the movie you'll know why...haha. =D

  • Comment removed

  • i really loved this movie <3

i thought it was sooo romantic

  • I think the pacing sucked. Too fast.

  • Hey i've read the book but havent seen the movie yet. Ur review makes me want to see it asap!

  • well, if claire introduced herself before henry went back to meet her as a little girl, it's possible that he introduced himself to her because she introduced herself to him and vice versa... i haven't seen the movie or read the book, was just the first thing that came to mind. Great videos btw :)

  • blah. this guy has annoyed me.

read the damn book. the 'problem' is clearly not a problem. blah.

  • Yeah man, they give dates in the book and the way the story is portrayed in the book is really good. Also, I think the ending in the book is better.

  • I LOVED this movie I watched it already like more than 10 times in the movie theatre. The plot was well done because most of the time travel movies aren't that intriguing and you get bored easily. But with this movie it kept me in my seat at all times even watching it after like more than 10times, its just a really great movie. I cannot wait to own it on dvd =D

  • I LOVED it. I thought it was amazing. The acting was terrific. It was really cool how the girl who plays Alba has her sister in the movie with her playing an older Alba. They look so much alike, of course since they're sisters but still. Almost the same face. I think Rachel will win an Oscar someday.

  • I really liked the movie.

  • Hey, I liked your review and still planning to go se the movie, but I do wanna comment on the problem you had with the film.

I've read the book and the reason why Henry says to little Clare that they're friends in the future is because he's the older Henry (who's married to Clare). He couldn't exactly say 'oh we're married in the future' because that would ruin the surprise. The Henry, Clare met when she's older is the 'younger' one who's still kynda new to the whole time traveling

  • well explained. :)

  • i am reading the book and am really enjoying it, ok it can take a while to get your head round the time travel thing but the best thing to do is to not focus on the complications of that and just appreciate the poignancy and beauty of the narrative. Im hoping the movie lives up to my expectations, the book certainly has.

  • I loved it!

Rachel McAdams really stood out for me in this film.

    it really was beautiful! :D

  • i havent seen the movie yet but still i think eric must have done something amazing this time also.i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee u eric ......so much & i am only 21.

  • I LOVED IT!! :)

  • it was older henry that went back to meet claire as a lil girl. she met him in her time and that henry hadn't met her yet

  • pause at :15 lolz.

  • uh.. ok

    nothing interesting

  • I liked it, but i got confused from the time when claire met henry in the library. I didnt like that he died though.

  • Haha it was bloody horrible. I had to emphasize this comment with the word "bloody" because the movie was way to long!

  • i loved this movie... and i thought they kinda did explain what happened. when he was older he went back in the past and met the girl when she was young, then, when he was younger and she had grown up she knew who he was ? damn, it's hard to explain. lol

  • hey eric what camera do you use in these reviews and on your main channel.

if you could answer that would be great!

im looking into buying a camera and wanted to know. thanks alot!

  • to me what was soo intense was when at the end of the movie thier running towards eachother. i was afraid they won't make it in time. the movie was beautifly done.

  • i LOVE THAT MOVIE! i haven't read the book yet.

  • it was confusing but how i see it is that she knew him from her childhood. but he was older. he told her to talk to him when he was younger when she grew up. so its kinda hard to tell how they met. but its kinda impossible to explain. i loved the movie. i saw it twice! one of my favorites ever!

  • i love all ur videos. Usually people on youtube when they review videos, they are either waayyy too harsh or just love everything. you on the other hand.... always tell the truth. i love ur videos!

    i subsrcibed to u;)

  • Movie was amazing!!!! I cried alot at the end!! Way better than a normal chick flick!

  • I had Read the book before a few years before I saw the movie. I was quick mad that they changed the ending in the movie. The ending in the book was a lot more heart warming. But I did enjoy the movie.

and you know how you were saying how it didnt make sense she new him but he didnt now her...they missed a very important part of the book that makes it so you can understand that. But Yes I think the moive was done very well but I really disliked the ending.

  • saw it....henry met her as a little girl when he was an older man ...but in the library scene he was supposedly younger so he had not met her as a little girl....but she knew him already because she met him when she was 6 but he was older. she even says, "Look how yound u look in the library!"....He even explains that he had met her for the first time as a little girl (the red blanket scene) is the First time they ever met.

  • Oh, good!!! I'm glad to hear that lots of people liked it! Rachel McAdams is my FAVORITE actress...so, I'm definately going to go see this. :)

  • I loved the movie too, I thought it was genius aswell. I'm trying to understand your problem with the movie, I need to keep on rewinding and hearing it again,:P But I did get confused at some points. I thought the little girl Alba did a really good job of acting as well.

    =]

  • I really loved the movie - but preferred the book! I did think the acting was amaaazing though and chemistry was fantastic between the 2 of them...beautiful love story, have to be 9/10 :D

    xx

  • I loved this Movie...RACHEL MCADAMS IS BEAUTIFUL.and the acting was ASTOUNDING... The story was wonderful as well..and I got a little teary...Too much ERIC BUTT for me though....They need to cut down on some of the NUDITY in PG-13...

  • I SAW IT IN THEATRES!!!! =) it was an outstanding beautiful movie, i LOVED it! and i also love rachel mcadams cuz she also plays in the movie " The Notebook" which is another one of my favorites:)

  • Yes, Like you said, That's confusing ahaha. And I didn't watch it.

  • liked your review.....I am reading the book and actually know the answer to your question....Clare (at 6) met Henry from the future (He is 36 at the time). Then Clare sees Henry in the Library when is only 28 years old. The younger version of himself has never met the 6 year old version of her. I know its a long explanation but I hope it clears up the confusion.

  • thanx i get it a little bit better still hurts my brain tho lol

  • haha loved the movie! super cute!....

really want to read the book now.... :)

i was kinda confused on the time thing.. ...but that wasnt the BIG thing for me in the movie so it was ok..

  • the book was much better! I cried my eyes out at certain moments and I really wanted to see these moments in the movie... where were they?

  • i took a lot of thought but i am able to understand how the whole meeting claire thing worked. I LOVED the movie! im sooo glad it wasnt a cheesy romance...now all i have to do is convince my boyfriend it wasnt cheesy...i know he'd love it.

  • Yes very confusing movie don't leave 2 go 2 the restroom. But loved it. Not as good as TWILIGHT :)

  • Bla Bla Bla.... LOL

  • ii though people despise it. though ill still watch it....

  • Just read the book if you are confused. The book is so much better.

  • Right! The book is amazing! Im reading it right now! And Im going to go see the movie here soon, I hope

  • thier relationship is like a loop, and in the book all events are happening at the same time. thats why we never know how things like clare's journal even exist because the dates are memorized by henry told to clare to give to henry again.

  • ..WHAT?

the end of this video friggen confused me.

  • like most ppl have said, but in simpler terms the book explains that everything has already happened.

    Henry: 40

    Claire:6

this is her version of them first meeting.

    Henry: 28

    Claire: 20

this is his version of them first meeting.

they met because it had already happened. super hard to explain but if you read the book,it makes perfect sense.

  • when Henry met Claire for the first time he was 20 but in his 30's and 40's he starts time traveling and meeting her in the past...

The book explains it. If you liked the movie you should read it =]

  • if you read the book it wouldnt have been that confusing because the book explains it better. when he met her when she was little he was like 40 something but when claire met him when she was 20 (when they met at the library) he was 28 and he didnt know who she was yet. he starts to travel to her when he gets older. thats why he didnt know her when they met. when my friend tried to explain it to me before i read the book i was so confused. overall i loved the movie. i was crying the entire time.

  • oh.. i seen it.. it was SO FREAKING AMAZING.

  • it wo kinda weird how they set it out but it makes sence wen u watch it if u get me. coz really he did just randomly bump in to her and then obv he go's and see her b4 like i sed easyer wen u watch it

  • I LOVED it! It was such a great movie and I'm really glad I got to see it. I understood it, even though at parts it did get confusing, and you're right, it doesn't make sense for that one part, but I didn't realize anything until watching this. My dad didn't understand it though, and it left him kind of bored.

  • this movie was definitely not what i was expecting, but it was AMAZING :)

  • claire introduced herself to henry first. and then they became friends and henry wnt back in time to tell young claire about it. it is confusing

  • one more thing....if henry can time travel why didn't he time travel when he was younger..and not when older after he meets claire...

  • i went to see district 9 i wanted the time travelers wife to be there but are theaters is crappy they don't have much movies..district 9 was amazing glad i watch your review you were right..im just going to read the book first and get the dvd of this movie and watch it afterwards..i don't want to be confused and stuff and its always better to read the book first then watch the movie..

  • read the book, its explained. i LOVED the book.

can't wait to see the movie.

  • the older version of eric bana visited claire, and that's why the younger version of him didn't know who the older version of claire was.

i pondered the exact same thing during the movie.

  • i defianlty think that u should read the book first. it helps...

  • lol ok lol :)

  • read the book cause it makes sense!!!!!!

  • Im glad the movie was so good! And the whole meeting thing is more clear in the book. Basicly it was an older henery who met the young clare. lets say he was 32 when he time traveled to when clare was 6, but he met clare in real time when he was 28. so clares first time meeting henery was henerys second, and clares second was henerys first....yeah...

  • me head hurt?!

  • IM SO GLAD YOU LIKED THE MOVIE

i love the booooook soooo much!

and i was sort of nervous it would be bad.

she did wait for henry...she was in love with him from when she first met him basically. she knew she was going to be with him. its a little bit more clear in the book :)

  • I watched it and also loved it, even read the book a week before, which is also fantastic. Its funny how I totally understood what you said, but yes awesome film. Also saw District 9, thanks to your review, and that was incredible film! Thanks. I hope youre not serious in your other vid and youre leaving. If so, Best of Wishes in life.

  • did you read the book before you saw the movie?

  • i did

  • the movie suck

  • YES!! i was totally scared it was gonna be a crap film !

  • thans for the great review!! i really want to go see it now!!

  • one of the best movie reviews you have done!!!
