Not quite. Dewey/James appear to have tremendously perverted Peirce's pragmatism for political purposes. The essence of "pragmatism" is the human nature to define things by function and that propositions adopted always require operational definitions. Context is important, but an essence lies in what determines context.
Don't take everything I write with this account too seriously because I created it to understand certain groups of people, but at least Peirce seemed to have agreed with my assessment in his April of 1905 article in The Monist.
