Ok, two things very wrong were done. Number 1, do you know how to use the brake at stop signs? It is legal in California to come to proceed through a red light or a stop sign if every vehicle is stopped AND you slow down to 15 MPH or less. The generally accepted rule is you stop and make contact with every driver. Not to mention when you turned at the light in front of traffic at the beginning. You never made contact with any of those drivers. Number 2, the siren's airhorn is a NO-NO!
Don't confuse the Hi/Lo "Martins Horn" for a Hi/Lo electronic siren. California does not regonize the Hi/Lo siren and some departments even disconnect it on the siren console. LAFD and some other SoCal fire departments use a "Martins Horn" in conjuction to the electionic wail and yelp siren. Martins Horns are still used in some other countries as a primany warning devises.
Actually the German Hi-Lo's that LACFD uses are made by Fiamm. They are the only true emergency vehicle hi-lo horns currently still imported. There is only one importer in america, and he happens to be in LA. The actual Martin's Horn (not Martin) is not imported do to cost. A new Fiamm setup costs about $200 by the time you pay for the product, shipping, import tax, and dealer mark up. A Martin's Horn will cost you between $900 and $1100 depending on the number of trumpets.
mooo483 because just about every siren made in the united states comes standard with a hi-lo tone on it and it would just cost the departments extra to have companies make the sirens with a different set of tones. Its to save money. So they buy ones with the Hi-Lo tone and then instruct all officers, paramedics, and fire fighters to NOT USE THEM... Just plain and simple.

Dumbass.... The California Highway Patrol sets the standard of emergency vehicle light and siren use in the state of California. And since my uncle is a Lieutenant in the California Highway Patrol I asked him what is and what is not legal and he informed me that any form of Hi-Lo siren is illegal.
And by the way, the air compressor of that pneumatic hi-lo seemed not good enough. Usually a good compressor produced a sound which is a lot louder, about to be as loud as a Federal Q.
CDPDPatrolUnit: Actually U.S. has used the Martin's Horn siren since the 1970's..Check for a video called Opening to TV show EMERGENCY and you'll hear 1..A good one too XD.
well running code here in LOS ANGELES, i sometimes run into pd, they turn on their lights, it seems to confuse me, i dont know if they are trying to get my attention, or just want to make other drivers more visable, that an ambulance is driving through.
What's the normal electronic siren it's using?

Driver should be cited for using a siren tone that is illegal in the state of California.
EvanM2007 2 years ago
The hi-lo you hear in the video is actually considered an airhorn. It's perfectly legal.

no its not, ANY hi-lo is illegal, by any means, electronic or air horn. Dont believe me? call the CHP headquarters and ask someone there.
EvanM2007 2 years ago
So is that hi-lo air horn legal on civilian vehicles too?
CDPDPatrolUnit 2 years ago
@havingfunhere I think LACo Squads have them, too, don't they. I like them for a traffic buster siren, if that makes any sense.

In cali, when PD sees FD or EMS running code, do they always turn on their lights or is it just certain ones that do that?
