  • When we had the New Orleans World Fair here (was it '80's -?)- the Aquacad swimming show featured this song in one of their routines! I'll never forget Annette's song - and they played it so loud for the entire Fair to hear! So Annie got some attention on this one.

  • Thank you for the upload, Oldies!

  • My first true love...still love her!

  • Wow!!! Thanks for posting...she was everybody's 'girlfriend'...I know she had been battling MS and I understand that Frankie Avelon is nice to her today. Best wishes to Annette.

  • one of my favorite tracks from Annette's Beach Party album....one of the few times she had a BIG SOUND behind her....love the brass!

  • California Sun

  • lyrics dont make much sense trying ot make it a girls point of view

  • Judging by the horns and the fact that someone mentioned that this was an album track in '63, I'm guessing it's a cover of Joe Jones original. Fun.

  • Her deadpan delivery almost sounds punk. Speed this up a bit, get a rougher backing band, and she could have been a proto-punk icon :)

  • Thank God for Annette. What young boy didn't have a crush on her. She was critical mass!

  • @kaloncar indubitably!

  • Still I crush on Annette. I know she is sick, and I hope God blesses her with an ease to that. Damn, I think she was My first t.v. crush, and I have never gotten over her. Her beauty and talent is eternal. Four people clearly have no hearts or souls. Long live Annette Funicello.

  • wow this is great!!..as a Ramones fan Im more familiar with their version, but this sounds fabulous

  • GOD PLEASE CLONE ANNETTE, I LOVE HER!

  • What year did she do this song? I googled it and it didn't say. Was it originally by the Rivieras?

  • ; A belated Happy Birthday to Rodney Bingenheimer.

  • hello annette ( jean paris 1964) club de l'étoile avenue victor hugo paris 16

  • Annette is an American treasure.

  • @friedie1jeff God bless this great lady for all the happiness she brought us over the years

  • annette was one of a kind. you knew you were going to feel good when she showed up.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 She's still alive.

  • I love Annette Funicello !

  • You do indeed see "a handsome little guy" wherever you go in "Old Frisco." Except you're not allowed to say Frisco, it pisses people off.

  • Annette was always a doll. Those "High School Musical" films appear to be of the same school as Annette and Frankie's films.

  • i loved her!

  • Annette Funicello and California Sun, originally by the Rivieras. Anyway this Disney Princess was one of the first Mouseketeers to sprout breasts, and she could sing; at age-of-majority Annette found herself loaned out to Bikini Beach movies. Disney has not been the same since then. Anyway, Bikini Beach and Surf USA came together for how to stuff any wild bikini.

  • i thought this was going to be a ramones cover

  • This version of California Sun was definetly not played on the radio back when Annette was doing her thing on Top 40 radio, as a matter of fact I never knew of this version until youtube came along. The version that got all the airplay around Vancouvertown Canada was by The Riverias. It was a big big hit here despite the Beatles controlling the airwaves at the time. Annettes version is like a welcome mat to the Riverias who definety don't add a soft touch to the recordinding like annette. thx

  • This was from Annette's 1963 album ANNETTE'S BEACH PARTY. Singles were released for most of the songs on this album but I don't think for this one - though for some reason it did make it to BACK TO THE BEACH, her revival film with Frankie Avalon.

  • There is no way Miley is anywhere close to Annette

  • Miley is an Annette wannabe

  • @Irisheddy If you are referring to Miley Cyrus, then basically you're comparing tasty ripe fruit(Annette) to spoiled fruit(miley), as far as I'm concerned.

  • Anette was a lot better than she ever got credit for.

  • This version is pretty good. But can you imagine Annette singing this song at the speed and volume The Ramones did it?

  • TO MY SURPRISE, I actually like this version of this great song. It was done well, and who couldn't fall in love with Annette?

  • This should have been a #1 record

  • This is a fun version of the song, and it's cool to hear a female version of it (I also love that it's Annette). That said, I still think The Rivieras' and Joe Jones' original are definitive.

  • I'll take it by the Rivieras and the Ramones. Sorry, Annette.

  • Not as good as the Ramones' version... but this is great!

  • Decent version but it just doesn't have that smokin' electric riff (instead substituting with brass). Funny, I first heard this song in her film Back To The Beach which is by the way absolutely hlarious; don't let anyone tell you different and discourage you from seeing it.

  • REALLY good version of this Song ~ ANNETTE had a simple way of just singing a Pop song without over-doing it ~ it's for certain that this could have been a Hit for her back in her 'Beach Party' Days!

  • CALIFORNIA SUN was first recorded by Joe Jones (he of YOU TALK TOO MUCH fame) in 1961. The Rivieras hit the Billbard Top 10 with their version in 1964.

  • This is cool! I've heard "The Monkey's Uncle" but I never knew any of these Annette songs existed!

  • I agree this is the best version of this song. Buena Vista Records should have released it as a single. This album was only one of 2 that went into the Top 40 by Annette.

  • I love this song!

  • The Best Versionof this song! Much better than the versions by either the Safaris or Frankie Avalon!
