Normally, I'm incredibly rock-headed about custom drum companies sounding the same and being nothing special. But i'll be honest, your drums sound good, unlike most custom drums. I like it. (:
@bkulchycki Believe it or not, they are actually very light. They actually weigh less than a kit of maple Pearl Masters I once owned. The shells are not that thick and they are made of walnut, which is a very light wood.
@RhettHendrix Thanks, your 14 inch floor tom sounds amazing- so much better than mine. I think it must be the G2s as I am using G1s :). Thanks for the speedy reply
@jtmcrae1 The heads probably do have something to do with it, but the biggest factor is the fact that these drums are made from solid blocks walnut rather than ply wood. Walnut has a lower natural fundamental tone than most woods used in today's drums, and the stave shell construction also gives the toms more depth and tone. Thanks for the comments, and good luck!

Do you have any footage of the making of the kit? I'm very interested in making a stave snare myself.

@bkulchycki Sorry, no footage of the actual build, but there are tons of great resources out there if you look around.

Being stave drums, those puppies must weigh a tonne! More meant to be stationary in a studio eh?

Hey great sounding kit. What heads are you using on the toms? Two ply batters?
jtmcrae1 6 months ago
@jtmcrae1 You were right! Evans G2's on top and G1's on the bottoms. The bass drum has an Emad.

Nice sounding kit. How were the bearing edges done?
TooAural 7 months ago
@TooAural We put 45/Roundovers on the smaller toms and full round overs on the floors and bass drum.

@dogmart
Soon enough. The next video will a couple different tuning styles on it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Good work, Rhett. Would love to hear one of your stave kits (or ply kits) with jazz, high tunings on all the drums.
