  • I remember first watching this documentary when I was in high school, and being livid that Dan White was allowed to be released after only a few years in prison. I remember thinking "Why the hell was he released? He killed two people! And they gave him only 5 yrs? That's bullshit! They should've given him the death penalty!"

After the police realized they lost control at the city hall, the police marched to the Castro area and raided a bar called the Elephant Walk...beating patrons and smashing the place up pretty bad. Th Elephant Walk was a gay bar at the corner of Castro and Market streets.

  • @StaticJolts British police haver done the same on numerous occasions....when they dislike GLBT demos or parades they will get out of the cameras and attack a gay bar or beat gays somewhere out in suburbia.....I was in the Royal Vauxhall Tavern once when police unexpectedly wrecked the bar and arrested dozens...all officers were wearing surgical gloves and some masks......but. ! the customers fought back and several officers were injured......a small victory but not a 'war won'....even now !!

  • Sadly, but very understandably, those burning police cars represent the anger many gay people still have at being discriminated against. We've had many victories, yet endure setbacks and hurdles to still overcome. Milk voiced what many of us were afraid to say to ourselves and friends and families.   • my point being why did the film end on a candlelit vigil without alluding to the riots in the aftermath granted it was some years after his murder but i feel its a necessary part of the overall narrative arc of milk's legacy
