  • Superb!!

  • Muy Hermoso :)

  • I do not know much about Japaneese culture, what I do know is that I love it's traditions. I'm from Nicaragua central america and we have traditions too, but none like this! It's beautiful, it catches my attention almost if I wish I were from Japan. The women are beautiful and the men no questions asked. How I wish I were back in ancient civilization. Except for the killings, lol

  • Japanese kabuki portraying a Chinese story.....confusing to some people =) thats why i post this

  • also, i love whoever you have doing the voice over. i love kabuki costume, make-up and performance but its hard to understand the storyline when i don't know whats been said. i can speak and understand Japanese, im even Japanese myself, well Japanese-American, but i never really thought that the singing was the narration. i always thought it was the accompanying musical piece. so thank you because now i can truly enjoy kabuki. <3

  • i luv all of the videos i have seen of yours so far and because of you now i know one of many, if not the best, of all kabuki performers...i was originally looking for videos on the new form of nihonbuyo but i saw this beautiful image and had to check out the video and now here i am.

  • The outfit looks very Chinese, even the makeup as well. I guess that's because allot of Japanese traditional outfits and performance arts are influenced from the Chinese.

  • So is this a modern Kabuki work?

  • This is too beautiful for words... no YouTube comment can convey my feelings right now.

  • @Idnarmadur I completely agree. The poetic grandeur is so beautiful in this specific part that I'm lost for words as well.

  • beautiful.

  • it's interesting how similar the costumes are to beijing opera!

  • @beercaked thats because this dance is based on chinese history

  • why is a chinese story so popular in japanese literature? and whats yokihi means in english?

  • Yokihi means "concubine Yang". Yu-Huan Yang, a extream beauty from the Tang dynasty of Chinese history, has a similar destiny like Egypt's Cleopetra..........

  • During the first 1000 B.C. Japan imported allot of culture from the mainland of China. And Yokihi is the Japanese pronunciation of Yang Kwei fei- family name is Yang, and "fei" at the end is a suffix meaning consort of princess.

  • yokihi is the mimick of "yang gui fei" in chinese. Yang is her lastname. "Gui Fei" is the highest ranked concubine of the emperor in ancient China.

  • fantastic! especially the way it ends!

  • god bless nippon

  • Amen to that!

  • marvelous performance!!!!

  • the poem is from Chinese Tang Dynasty. truly beautiful.

  • Beautiful, I simply love it !

  • ¡¡¡¡ love !!!

  • This is a fusion of Chinese and Japanese theaters. The story is derived from an ancient Chinese poem in the Tang Dynasty, depicting the love between an emperor and his concubine, separated by the boundary between this world and the next world.

  • is this japanese or chinese? i was searchin chinese opera when i got this

  • I love how he just casually placed the fans into the Priest's costume...so smooth, so graceful. It's absolutely mesmerizing.

  • I just can't stop watching him.

Everytime I discover the pleasure of beauty,

delicacy and the sophistication of the traditional japanese culture. Bravo!!

  • Tamasaburo is my eternal love.

He is a beauty for ever.

From ancient Japan until ancient China we can travel with Tamasaburo to the world of dream...

  • I can't agree with you more. Tamasaburo is a paragon of Art.

  • He's so graceful!

  • beautiful!

  • thanks for posting this..

  • This unique performance is based on the famous Tang dynasty poem 'Song of Everlasting Sorrow' by Bai Juyi, illustrating many of the key themes of the 7th century lyrics. A truly original and beautiful new fusion of Kabuki and Peking Opera by one of the great performing artists of our times.

  • does someone know the name of the music of this dance ?

  • the music was written specifically for the dance. There is no name to it. Do you want to know the name of the composer instead?

  • sorry for the late answer but please tell me the name of the composer.

  • @tiffenakou it's amazing! so Yumemakura Baku did also this?? *O*

  • @tiffenakou it's amazing! so Yumemakura Baku did also this?? *O*

  • first time i like something due 2 chinese opera.... no shouts!!! thnxx tamasaburo is amazing but i prefer 100% japanese kabuki

  • Outstanding.

  • that's the best kabuki-music I heard ever

  • Lol,i was like "wow the headdress looks like chinese opera" and then i read the description.

    Are the clothes authenticly chinese-looking?

  • Well, as far as chinese clothings go. What he is wearing IS authentic chinese opera style clothes. (But of course chinese opera clothings are a bit different from authentic ancient chinese clothings... )

  • It's nice but I prefer to Chinese opera.:D

Its music is much more acceptable for a person like me having once participating in the opera.

  • Tamasaburo looks so pretty as a chinese girl!!! he is awesome!

  • This is the performance of truly master!

    Thank you for sharing!

  • Fanscinating. I'm surprised the Japanese dance makeup used is similiar to those used in Chinese opera.

  • Read the description of the video and it explains that the kabuki was based on a Chinese princese. That's why they dress with Chinese style make-up and costume.

  • concubine, not princess.

"That's why they dress with Chinese style make-up and costume"

i think he chose the opera costume instead of dance costume because wearing the dance costume would have made it very clear he's not a woman

  • this was amazing and beautiful. It brought a tear to my eye...

  • He's amazing! And so beautiful.

  • amazing... i have finally been able to see tamasaburo dance...XD
