George might have waited 15 years to record this song but I bet it only took Bob 15 minutes to write it. That doesn't mean it isn't a sweet song -- and a touching vocal performance by George. But this is almost a definition of a throwaway -- although one with two great artists behind it.
Just to clear this up...all of these bootleg tracks were recorded in 1970. So what if George's official version of this song wasn't released until 1984? As has already been pointed out, this isn't the only time something like that happened.
As for this version itself...quite good! Another reason I want the album.
I'm fairly certain that Bob gave George this song in 1970 and thus he first demo'd it, along with some other ATMP songs in mid-1970. Yes, George waited THAT LONG to record it properly. (He did the same thing with "Not Guilty." That was recorded in 1968 for the White Album, but got cut. Then then re-recorded it for his "George Harrison" album in 1979.)
Another one is "I'll Still Love You", recorded a pass during ATMP sessions but never saw the light of day until 1979 when Ringo cut it. A shame as it would have made a great George track.
You sir, are incorrect. This song was written by George's good friend Bob Dylan, and he recorded it in 1984 for the soundtrack to (believe it or not) "Porky's Revenge"! As far as I know, it has nothing whatsoever to do with "All Things Must Pass". The only possible connection is that Dylan MIGHT have given it to him in 1970 (when they co-wrote "I'd Have You Anytime"), but this doesn't explain why George waited 14 years to record it. I don't believe it. Dylan gave it to him around 1984. Sorry.
All of the Beware of ABKCO tracks are from a demo session for Phil Spector so that he could hear what George had in mind for the All Things Must Pass album. George waited a long time for some of this stuff. Beautiful Girl, for instance, was written in 1968, but not recorded until 1976. If you listen, you can hear that there's no way this is George Harrison from 1984 singing. This is definitely George's ATMP voice. That's how things work with musicians sometimes.
My cuz Mike covered this song. R.I.P. Mike.:(

His voice is so clear & wonderful. This version just emphasizes his beautiful voice. It sounds like he's right next to me, leaning on my shoulder....

yeah, I have to agree. no idea why he would sit on this song for long, but this is definitely sounds like the 1970-ish George, no queston.
