an acetate is a disc cut prior to the cutting of the master disc which is used for the mass production of records.

acetates are very fragile "records" basically that are used like a proof in photography.

many times they were cut and then it was decided not to use that particular cut (song) as part of the official release. Thus, many acetates survive as a means of obtaining songs that otherwise would never be in the public domain.

On the fifth disc you have a superb live take of the VU doing this son with Lou singing it.

It's my favorite version. :)

This is fascinating to hear! While this acetate lacks the polish of the studio version, I am still thoroughly enjoying the chance to hear this. For years now, I have called this song "the self esteem anthem".

Making a woman cry is terrible, but that's what it took. Sterling said "F** it! If she keeps doing this we'll have to take the song off the album!" She cried and the next take was the one they released with VU& N. Incredibly, I love the album version. She must have forgiven them. Then again, you never know.
