I don't know about Ohio, but here in Michigan, it is perfectly legal to ride in the road, with the exception of divided highways and freeways, not to mention that it is also safer.
Cool video - @ what area is the commute from and to? I wouldn't feel safe riding on the wrong side of the road in the sections where there is nothing between you and the road.
Cool! I couldn't tell if there was a sidewalk on the right side of the road, or if that road was a highway, but you know you're riding on the wrong side, right? If you ride on the left sidewalk, and a car comes out to turn right.. he's not going to see you because he's looking left for traffic.
It is a highway with no sidewalk on the other side. There is also no intersections or driveways to pull out of on this streach of road. The danger is people opening their front door from 2:20-2:30.
As far as sidewalk riding goes, in Ohio unless you are a minor, it is illegal to ride on the sidewalk so I guess I am guilty of that here. Wrong side? I think not.
Ah ok. My personal commute takes me though the center of two cities, and it ends up getting nasty if you decide to ride on the left sidewalk. I've personally had a close call from one of these instances, so I cringed when you shifted to the left sidewalk.
Um wrong side..I think yes. Its illegal to ride your bike on the left side of the road dude..and its many times more dangerous cause if someone hits you head on..your dead, plain and simple. Your putting yourself at even greater risk by ridng on the left side of the road.
If i rode my bike on the wrong side of the road I would get a ticket cause ITS ILLEGAL!! Go ahead and drive your car on the left side of the road..you would most likely get stopped and ticketed. Same deal with someone on a bike!
Can't we all just get along? Come on, there are enough jackass drivers around for everybody, we don't need to fight among ourselves.
The thing you should be concerned with is not tickets, it is if you are injured while doing something "illegal" you will have a greatly reduced chance of collecting any compensation from the other parties involved for expenses (hospital bills and the like) even if they are at fault.
You say cops dont give a crap about cyclists eh, well cops where I live DO give a crap about cyclists, and issue tickets and warnings if we do something illegal or stupid like riding down the wrong side of the road against traffic. I have gotten 4 tickets already in the past 4 years, and 2 of them were cause I was riding against traffic illegally. Please dont tell me what he is doing, is illegal and stupid, cause it is. I dont really care what anyone thinks about it..its just stupid, period.
"Stupid" is posting boring videos on YouTube. Dersdorf what is your problem? So what are the other 2 citations for? If you don't care what others think, keep your comments to yourself.
And in your videos you ride like a Jackass sometimes Derselsnorfer. If a car comes to close, you move out to the center of the lane which pisses off the next driver who did nothing wrong, they just see you in the middle of the lane and think what is this idiot doing? Share the road works both ways.
For the past 9 years I have worked on my bike 5 days a week 8 hours a day 51 weeks a year and I have NEVER been ticketed while riding.
The purpose of me riding towards the center of the road is to discourage unsafe, and stupid overtaking. In some of my video's people pass within inches..and in the face of oncoming traffic! I do tons of research on this..and I have been riding in traffic for almost 10 years now. I do what I think is safe. Maybe people should just be more respectful of bikers and not think about themselves all the time..and think about other people.
Moving towards the center is ILLEGAL in Ohio. You must stay as far right as is practical. You are also not "Sharing" the road. By riding in the center you are acting just as disrespectful and ignorant as those bad drivers.
Well im sorry if i dont go and do stupid and crazy shit..I dont do something I may wind up regreting later in life. The purpose of me posting my cycling video's is to educate cyclist's and people about safe riding and what not to do in situations. I personally dont find that boring, and the citations I got were riding against traffic..speeding in a school zone and rolling through a stop sign. Its a free contury and im gonna keep commeting on stuff I think is stupid.
I've nearly been hit 100% of times on the right side of the road. When I ride on a sidewalk on the left, I go slow, plus I'm very aware. I do it for my safetly as the right side of the road is narrow or has too much car traffic in it.
CycleMan2200 is Dershnof. How else can he rate and comment on his own videos. You are a sorry excuse for a cycling advocate. Don't go away mad, JUST GO AWAY.
If you are referring to 2:10 to 2:40, you are wrong if you think I am at greater risk than if I was on the right side of the road. You have a very limited view of the road from the video and to get to the sidewalk from the right side of the road I would need to cross 4 lanes of traffic.
Things are not as plain and simple as your mind seems to be.
Word to the wise; dont throw stones if you live in a Glass City.

Great video! You really had to get creative to make that route work. It's a bummer the city wont actually do anything to make cycling easier.

I would personally avoid using the sidewalks altogether. Too many close calls.
speeddemon0117 3 years ago
To many close calls? Did you see how overgrown the sidewalk is? Yea, I guess I could have avoided those "close calls" by riding on the highway. jeez
Why not edit your comments to "I would personally drive a car everywhere."

Before you educate, you need to learn. Judging from the number of views of your videos, the only person watching them is you.

Then move out towards the left. Trust me, whenever I do so(at least in town) most people give me plenty of room.

I agree w/ FlyinPig...the left side of the road offers a more 'controlled' ride...

nice video, but you need to tell the city to cut some of the bushes/trees along that path..

I think you'd be safer in the traffic lane than on that sidewalk. Good choice on the music.

That's a rough walkway to have to take, if you were to fall off the bike by the rail, it looks like you could go right over!
