That car appears to be an auto trans with no trans brake and the driver also did not load the engine/converter against the foot brake. It also appears to be a high 8 second run. That friends, is awsome. I'd say the car probably has 5. something axle ratio. I'm really curious what kind of times are possible with a foot brake auto car with big power. I'm building a big block Duster and I'm going with a 727 and no trans brake.
@Doosterify its actually not so stop acting like u know everything about cars and nobody cares if ur building a big block duster, and i also like fried chicken and cherry coolattas
@BRANDONaro33 Thats not awsome? Looks like alot of people disagree with you with all the comments. I don't know everything about cars and would never claim that I do, but I do know some things. Do you know what a trans brake is and how its used in drag racing? As far as you trying to put down what I said, I could see if I made a negative comment about something you posted or liked but from what I can see your not into Mopars or maybe into cars at all and alot of us are.
@BRANDONaro33 So what do you have thats more impressive? Do you even own a car or do you drive around in mommys mini van making videos of kids reclining the back seats?
@12bjoshu Hey buddy, for i guy who did so well in Kansas your grammar and spelling suck. I'm not sayin that I'm any better, but in your comment about how "awesome" you are you had more then a few grammatical errors and you even spelled "your" wrong (should be you're). The second word in your compliments about yourself was wrong. Dude. One more thing, spelling memorized words( I've done good in spelling bees as well) does not have much to do with grammar. Just enjoy the video like everyone else.
SS/AH (formally SS/AA) the record books show that there was some others that performed with or above these at times. But still, they were awesome! All of them.
I don't even like Chryslers in the least - I am a BIG time Chevy guy (check out my videos), but the fact is that Chrysler hit a home run when they built the Hemi. Quite probably the greatest performance bigblock V8 ever created.
Reliability sucked. But that goes hand in hand with major performance. That is how you get performance - use lighter parts, more RPM, and expect things to break regularly. Its part of the game. Chevy's do it too. And so do Fords.
@12bjoshu So you went to the Kansas state spelling bee.....I bet you were in the audience toggling your knob. Where was your capital "K" for Kansas, and there should have been a comma between the two "far" 's in you sentence. And a capital "S" at the start of the sentence poo head.
SS/AH (formerly SS/AA) 1968 Hemi Barracuda & Hemi Dart were the fastest cars ever made by any Detroit company bar none. No Chevy or Ford ever came close. All Modern funny cars & Top Fuel dragsters use the Chrysler designed Hemi engine.
@12bjoshu to even associate 426 and sucking ass in the same sentence is blasphemous to ALL car enthusiasts. Your 15 with a large vocabulary, wow.. would you like a cookie too ?? in reality, I have likely forgotten more than you actually know about cars & engines. In all this banter, you have yet to enlighten all of us as to WHY a 426 Hemi sucks ass or is wimpish in any way, shape, or form. As I said all TOP FUEL cars use a Hemi design, if it wasn't the best configuration, they wouldn't use it.
Haha, that is very funny, as if I don't know something that you do, then I'll just ask my father who has been building engines since the 70's... and he's owned roughly 100 cars from Impalas to Chevelles to Novas to Trucks to multiple other types, and has driven just about any muscle car of the 60s and 70s... so I'm pretty well set on knowledge. Thanks anyways.
good for you. Do we want to compare what are dad's know or what WE know ?? You don't want to go up against me OR my dad in a game of "who knows more about engines and musclecars" and why would you ? Nobody knows everything, but I have been into the hobby and racing since birth basically, I am 41 now... meaning I was born smack dab in the middle of the musclecar era. My dad owned an engine and hihg-perfomance parts shop in the 70's, and my uncle builds heads for MANY nascar teams in NC.
sorry for bashing you dude, i feel like a dick now! but beeing from a mopar family, dad having six pack cuda and uncle having hemi charger, i have never herd of nor seen a mopar having constant trouble with there engine. i have herd though that people chose to not buy the hemi because of its bad rep. always needing carb work and a constant tuneup. but when they were running right they were sure fast as hell
My dad bought a Challenger back in 1970 (It was a 225 slant six). He asked about a HEMI Challenger that was on the lot, and the salesman told him that there was NO warruntee on the engine. Maybe that is why so many people were skeptical.
Now my favorite car in the world is the Hemi Cuda but i cant stand for the Chevy bashing either, the 427 was definatly a match for the 426 Hemi, they both were nearly identical engines in size, weight, and power...also the 302 in the Z/28s was rated at 290hp by GM but would really put out well over 400 horses on any dyno
Also the Ford 302 would reportedly put down over 400 horses when Ford rated it at 290 (coincidence? LOL) and im pretty sure the 429 Boss could give a Hemi a run
Maybe. I think both the HEMI cars and the Boss 429 were both low 12sec vehicles, from what I understand. I read a road test from '69 and someone clocked the 69 Boss 429 at 12.30. I will have to find the info again, as that has been a long time since I have read that.
and have you ever seen a hemi cuda on the side of the road??????? didn't think so dip shit! and you dont see hemis anymore because mopar guys didnt want to spend the extra money to buy one. all you needed was a 440 six pack and there was nothing on the road that could touch you
I'm sorry buddy but the only reason I personally haven't is because they're so rare now, my dad on the other hand has seen them on the side of the road. classic HEMI's weren't exactly known for their reliability. One of his friends had a 440 challenger that'd smoke Chevelle's, but it spent more time off the road than on. Don't get me wrong I'm crazy for MOPAR's, my next car or truck will have one. But I don't lie just because I love them.
I love Ford's and Chevy's are ok. But the only Ford motor that will match a 426 Hemi or bigger is JOHN Kasse 596 Boss in his 07 Mustang GT. Thing puts down over 800HP on pump gas.
wow, guess you got me there, you chevy fanboy keyboard warriors can be entertaining sometimes. If your damn chevys are so great and mopars are so bad, why are you watching a hemi cuda video? are you so insecure about chevys that you have to come on here and talk shit to feel better? please, if you have a chevy, sell it for scrap and use the money to buy yourself a life. get off mopar vids running your mouth, we dont want to hear your B.S
tell me, why is EVERY single engine used in top fuel drag racing based on the 426 Hemi then ?? if using a Chevy engine was better, they all would be using one... they're not. Grow up.
Awesome, I had two 68 Barracudas back in the late 70's. One had a sweet 340 in it and ran low 11's on the street. I love the look over the hemi scoop.
That track looks like SIR (Seattle International Raceway). Been there many times as a spectator, but never been in the seat of a car ON it. Thnx for the ride!
I can't tell you what the light was on that run, the logbooks are in the trailer. The car routinely goes 8900-9100 RPM's through the finish line. It is a 3-speed transmission. In Super Stock we have to run the engine/drivetrain combo that came with the car. So for us to run the Hemi in that car it either has to have the 3-speed Torqueflite automatic or a 4-speed manual.
@rdrnr7551 Oh good, you obviously know about the cars combo. Dude that is awsome. Could you divulge some info on his combo, like axle ratio, converter size/stall speed. That is the fastest foot brake auto car I ever remember seeing and I'm building one. I can't afford a HEMI but I'm very interested in foot brake cars that really fly like that thing does. Your Grand dad left the line practically off idle. that is just about unheard of for an 8 second car.
