They try and get the animals they can adopted out, and the "hopeless cases" (which probably mostly have been made into "hopeless cases" by humans in the first place anyway) are killed in a humane way rather than being thrown out on the street. @nolovelost92 i don't see how, once an animal gets overly domesticated they have a hard time if not no chance of surviving on their own in the wild. a great example of that is the ranch mink which has been documented running circles around a pond until it died of exhaustion after excaping or being released. nature does appeal to me, but i accept my place in it.
as a trapper i truly rescue pets from time to time. where i live many people have tossed pets out when they can't take care of them. some find my house while a few others have found my traps, and have yet to be harmed as PETA would have you think. they are usually waiting patiently and comfortably when i get there. usually they are skinny from being on their own for so long, hints why they try to get to my bait. a couple weeks with me and they are healthy again.

In 2005, PETA employees Adria Hinkle and Andrew Cook were charged with 31 felonies for dumping the bodies of healthy, adoptable animals that they callously killed in a dumpster behind a North Carolina strip mall. Do some research and make sure you have all the facts about organizations you support. Since 1998, PETA has euthenized 85% of the animals it purportedly "rescued". I guarantee you the majority of these animals arent sick.

My American Bulldog/Pit Bull mix was days away from being PTS in the shelter because of space issues. Oh and thats another thing, PETA hates pit bulls too, and advocated for the euthenasia of the Michael VIck dogs. Turns out most of those dogs are living normal lives now with loving families. Some are even certified therapy dogs now.

Thank you for rescuing four dogs. PETA volunteers try to save the animals from suffering. They try to accomodate all healthy animals in life time shelters and sanctuaries. Michael Vicks' dogs were all brought to Best Friends in Utah. PETA coordinators work together with life time shelters to find accomodations for all dogs.

Many people work, they can not take care of so many animals. Some people have no pets because they work all day long and the pet would be lonely. If you rescue pets good for you. @luthientassard Thank you. Shelter space always gets scarce when there is horrendous overpopulation. Almost impossible to find enough shelter space with endless animals coming in. That is why PETA is so imperative about spaying and neutering our pets. Breeders are of course against this because they would have to acquire the breeding permits according to mandatory spay and neuter laws. One is in effect in San Diego and it works. Senator Dean Florez has been working tirelessly on this subject.

@luthientassard Yes. That is true. Responsible breeders and pet owners don't want overpopulation, animals suffering on streets, diseases, etc. They can see ahead, they see the consequences. Yes, people should have to acquire permits to breed and pass test. That is the only way people will learn the information that is necessary to handle the animals correctly. Puppy mills are unethical. Female dogs need breaks between breeding. I do believe in pure breeds. Some breeds are amazing.
@NicolaRedwooddforest i agree with you 100%. when i bought my pet (ferret), i researched about their needs, comon diseases, habits,etc. i play with him almost 2 hours a day, he is free to walk around.....i know that if i want to leave the city i need someone responsible to take care of him...in fact i wanted a dog (adopted) but i knew that i couldnt take care of one.
buying a pet (animal friend) is a serious decision, is not something you can throw away when you get bored.

The tour company sent the dogs out into the woods with a employee and he shot each one. You can look up the video on youtube. What would have the shelter done with them? Humanely euthanize them instead of brutally shooting them where 1/2 there faces were blown off and they were still running around.

If our streets become flooded with stray animals and we can't do anything about it, then perhaps changes in the right areas might occur. The reason I don't rescue is because I've never seen a dog, in the breed I like, that I wanted at the pound. Usually all they have are labs and lab-mixes, and I can't stand labs.

Q. What's the difference between an animal that exists at a shelter and an animal that exists at a breeder?
A. Irresponsible breeders abound, to be sure, but the breeder is more likely to provide an animal that's been protected from inbreeding. After taking on strays and falling deeply in love with them only to have them die young from genetic disorders, I will "adopt" responsibly bred animals. Strays make fine pets (and are "people") but statistically they tend not to live nearly as long.

I got my dog from a breeder and would never consider going another way after seeing how great they were with there dogs. Btw my dog is ultra talented when it comes to hunting, we have enjoyed many pheasant, partridge, ducks and geese on the table as a result of her keen nose, excellent point and hold and strong land and water retrieves. Just the sight of my hunting boots gets her excited about going out. Hunting season opens in 4 weeks here, can't wait to see her in action again.

They try and get the animals they can adopted out, and the "hopeless cases" (which probably mostly have been made into "hopeless cases" by humans in the first place anyway) are killed in a humane way rather than being thrown out on the street. as a trapper i truly rescue pets from time to time. where i live many people have tossed pets out when they can't take care of them. some find my house while a few others have found my traps, and have yet to be harmed as PETA would have you think. they are usually waiting patiently and comfortably when i get there. usually they are skinny from being on their own for so long, hints why they try to get to my bait. a couple weeks with me and they are healthy again.

wow ingrid newkirk going back on her own words. not a shock at all. in a much earlier interview she said she would like to see domestic animals done away with. also to show how bright she really is, birth control has been around for atleast 2,000 years. they had it in the times of the romans, just not in the pill or condom form we think of today. the early settlers had many children because very few survived (usually) and the kids helped with the chors.

@NicolaRedwooddforest Oh, and ETA before you go spouting off about rescue, all 4 of my pets are rescued. My American Bulldog/Pit Bull mix was days away from being PTS in the shelter because of space issues. Oh and thats another thing, PETA hates pit bulls too, and advocated for the euthenasia of the Michael VIck dogs. Turns out most of those dogs are living normal lives now with loving families. Some are even certified therapy dogs now.

@Laura21701 PETA gives every penny and effort to saving animals from suffering. They love all breeds equally much. I love Bulldogs and Pit Bulls, too. They are beautiful. Thank you for rescuing four dogs. PETA volunteers try to save the animals from suffering. They try to accomodate all healthy animals in life time shelters and sanctuaries. Michael Vicks' dogs were all brought to Best Friends in Utah. PETA coordinators work together with life time shelters to find accomodations for all dogs.

@NicolaRedwooddforest PETA had NOTHING to do with the rescue of the Vick dogs! They wanted them euthenized! They called them, "The most dangerous dogs in America". The real heroes of that were the ASPCA, Best Friends, and an organization in CA called BAD RAP. PETA was no where to be found. PETA does NOT CARE about finding homes for animals. Please look at some stats. They kill 85% of the animals they take in.

@luthientassard Most people who care about animals already have a lot of animals at home. I have friends who have a lot of animals who they rescued. Many people work, they can not take care of so many animals. Some people have no pets because they work all day long and the pet would be lonely. If you rescue pets good for you. I really appreciate it. But please do not give in to the slander against PETA by the corporations.

@luthientassard Thank you. Shelter space always gets scarce when there is horrendous overpopulation. Almost impossible to find enough shelter space with endless animals coming in. That is why PETA is so imperative about spaying and neutering our pets. Breeders are of course against this because they would have to acquire the breeding permits according to mandatory spay and neuter laws. One is in effect in San Diego and it works. Senator Dean Florez has been working tirelessly on this subject.

@NicolaRedwooddforest i think that one of the problems is that when someone buy a pet, i dont know why, they think is a good idea to breed; if you want to breed adquire the permits and do it right.
i dont believe that responsible breeders want an overpopulation, because there are more risks of irregular breeding, losing the breed line, etc.

@luthientassard Yes. That is true. Responsible breeders and pet owners don't want overpopulation, animals suffering on streets, diseases, etc. They can see ahead, they see the consequences. Yes, people should have to acquire permits to breed and pass test. That is the only way people will learn the information that is necessary to handle the animals correctly. Puppy mills are unethical. Female dogs need breaks between breeding. I do believe in pure breeds. Some breeds are amazing.

@NicolaRedwooddforest i agree with you 100%. when i bought my pet (ferret), i researched about their needs, comon diseases, habits,etc. i play with him almost 2 hours a day, he is free to walk around.....i know that if i want to leave the city i need someone responsible to take care of him...in fact i wanted a dog (adopted) but i knew that i couldnt take care of one.
buying a pet (animal friend) is a serious decision, is not something you can throw away when you get bored.

@Lyn7721 Last week 100 (100!!!) sled dogs were killed by a vancouver tour company because the local shelter could not help take them, they didn't know if they didn't take them they would be shot. The tour company sent the dogs out into the woods with a employee and he shot each one. You can look up the video on youtube. What would have the shelter done with them? Humanely euthanize them instead of brutally shooting them where 1/2 there faces were blown off and they were still running around.

If she believes there is an overpopulation, then how is cleaning up the mess herself going to fix the problem? IMO, if you wish to prove a point, you let animals run wild. If our streets become flooded with stray animals and we can't do anything about it, then perhaps changes in the right areas might occur. Instead, they clean up all the dirt and no one is able to see what supposed nightmare we're unleashing on the world. Helping ignore the problem isn't solving the problem.

And I beg to differ about not going to a breeder. While I agree with rescuing as many pets as possible, it is not possible. The reason I don't rescue is because I've never seen a dog, in the breed I like, that I wanted at the pound. Usually all they have are labs and lab-mixes, and I can't stand labs.

A. Irresponsible breeders abound, to be sure, but the breeder is more likely to provide an animal that's been protected from inbreeding. After taking on strays and falling deeply in love with them only to have them die young from genetic disorders, I will "adopt" responsibly bred animals. Strays make fine pets (and are "people") but statistically they tend not to live nearly as long.

I got my dog from a breeder and would never consider going another way after seeing how great they were with there dogs. Btw my dog is ultra talented when it comes to hunting, we have enjoyed many pheasant, partridge, ducks and geese on the table as a result of her keen nose, excellent point and hold and strong land and water retrieves. Just the sight of my hunting boots gets her excited about going out. Hunting season opens in 4 weeks here, can't wait to see her in action again.

If people just spayed and neutered, they wouldn't HAVE to resort to euthanasia! Listen! That is the point, and people are so afraid of this movement, that it is going to destroy them, that they ignore completely what we are saying, and try to make absurd, defensive, and OFFENSIVE comments. If you controlled the population, you wouldn't be bitching right now about the issue. Spay and neuter your beloved pets people.

PETA? If peta was really that great then why dont they rescue and try to adopt out animals instead of killing them? with their so called fame they would in theory be able to find homes for several animals why dont they? Oh thats right they want to get rid of pet ownership all together so of course they would glorify euthinasia. dont even get me started How can you or PETA call yourself animal lovers? When niether of you have a definition on what the animal human bond is?
