Louis XVI intended a lot of good for France. He wanted to modernize France and was open to the idea of Constitutional Monarchy. He had the burden of maintaining The Monarchy and France for his family after the shady dealings of prior Monarchs. When Marie Antoinette enthusiastically wanted to help the Americans and follow suit w/Democracy, Louis could now find the direction he needed. However he was no saint and was willing to utilize slavery in a business propsition in Louisiana w/G. Washington.

As French American Territory was still property of France at that time, George Washington himself had to approach Louis XVI with a business proposition that included mass use of slavery in the Louisiana Bayou. In 1789, the "Reign of Terror" chased all of Royalty out, installing Robespierre and Napoleon.
