  • Why don't they test this with a dog that's meant for protection. Put a Boerboel, Rott, Doberman, GSD or Pitbull in the yard and see what happens.

  • WOW. How stupid are these people? You can google "Learn about Labs" or retrievers and know they wouldnt attack in that sort of situation. And a 25 lb dog? REALLY? If someone wanted to break in theyd kick it with their boot and it would ball up in a corner somewhere. How about an untrained GSD or Pitt, Rottweiler etc. My Lab/Shepherd "Koda" will never allow anyone near our door whether we are there or not (have tested) She snarles and barks and is ready to go until I allow the guest in.

  • well retriever and labradors maybe aint the dogs they should test... a bit unprofessional... where are some breeds like schnauzer, shepherd, doberman...

  • If the dogs were really clever they'd attack the arm that's NOT protected.

  • I have a German Shepard-Chow mix, and he is a good dog. We live in an apartment building and he lets us know when someones at the door, and sometimes even the outside door if someone comes in loudly. He'll be at the door when anyone comes in, but we've found out that if someone he doesn't know walks in he'll attack. One of the neighbors entered before me and my neighbor immediately closed the door to avoid getting chomped on.

I think it depends on the breed & how the dog is raised. If you raise

  • @Azuban222 (CONTINUED) it to be nice to people and greet them then I wouldnt expect that dog to protect you or the house. Bigger dogs, German Shepherd, boxers, dobermans, they're breed for protection & hunting. Smaller dogs are for companionship. I haven't met one yet that's more than their bark.

We taught our dog to bark when hes gotta go out (potty), but most of dogs will bark or growl when someone approaches the door. Or at least ours always have. They've even been protective of the yard.

  • lol how many drug heads came over my wall and had to go back over from a 1/2 pit lol

  • Most adult dogs will alert to a stranger coming into their territory BUT when it comes to most dogs that dont have any BITE TRAINING, alot of those would be attack dogs turn out to be pussies. Mostly it depends on the training and having a confident stable minded dog.

Also I think this video isn't fair to untrained

Dogs that Woiuld protect their owners.

  • My german sheppard has stopped 2 burglars and she hasn't had any sort of training.

  • Try with a Fila and maybe have to spend a lot in flowers

  • I think one thing that needs to be considered is that dogs can sense things. Like a pit bull- they'd let anyone in the house if there was no threat, but if they can sense that there is one- they're there to protect and they will.

  • retrievers are said to be too friendly to be good guard dogs. those are friendly older dogs. of course they arent going to be good guard dogs. lol.

  • @Snyderyan93 yet the golden retriever has among the highest incident of bites on people

  • My untrained, neutered German Shepherd male helped me fight off a would be home envader this summer. I heard a loud noise out back and looked out the window and saw some drunk guy breaking in my fenced in back yard heading for my back door. I met him at the door and after finding out he wasnt armed, physically confronting him, the man was 2x my size and after fighting for 30 seconds or so my GSD lept from inside and bit the man multiple time helping me fight him off. No training just love & care

  • U TRAIN AND REDUCE THE DOGS AGGRESSIVE TENDENCIES AND TREAT THEM LIKE KIDS......TRAIN TO GREET PEOPLE......THEN WAT DO U XPECT WEN A STRANGER COMES IN EITHER FEAR OR GREETINGS...IF THE DOGS ARE GIVEN SPACE THEY WUD GUARD INSTINCTIVELY.......

  • I have a mutated Chupracabra and a Sashsquash as my pet. Will it protect me?

  • @KillerXify Probably, but they may demand goat's blood and virgin souls as payment.

  • thats why i prefer GSD or any other muts that defend their homes

  • They should have tried with a doberman, rottweiler, German shepherd, or mastiff. They are bred for protection and defense.

  • My dog would most bark and growel if he was walking across the street! :P

  • My GSD Cyrus would have ripped the door off it's hinges,to get at that guy.

  • I was told by a K9 trainer that he prefers "Beta" dogs, not "Alphas", because the handler is the "Alpha", not the dog. The "Beta" is preferred since they obey orders of the handler.

  • Awhile ago my landlord entered the house to make some repairs. My husband let him in but I was upstairs sleeping and the mastiffs were upstairs sleeping with me. When the dogs woke up to a man on the upper level with me sleeping, they lost it and it's very lucky that I woke up in time to slam the door because when I woke up they were gnashing, barking, slowly and stiffly approaching him with hackles up and faces pushed forward in aggression mode. I have 0 doubt they would have attacked him.

  • Well, I can attest to my late border collie "Buddy" to be a great protector of family and home. He was untrained, other than as a family pet and he definitely took a chunk out of at least one would be B&E artist. The dentition on that pup was awesome, as he could chew trough a beef leg bone in about an hour and have nothing left. But, more often than not, the dogs bark was enough to deter most assholes. Sadly my little friend died of cancer this past summer. God how I miss him.

  • im sorry but dogs can just sense if your a good person or not. believe me.. my dog growls and barks only when theres an actual threat to me or the house or his stuff. and he has went through plexi glass windows many times in the past as the neighbors played outside. (cap guns) he didnt hop the fence but the neighborhood knows hes protective. never really messed with em, now hes 12 or 13 years old and still does the same.. but hes a granpa. slower reactions etc. my dogs a junkyard dog. rescued.

  • @barnabyray11 only trained by my mother and i. sure hes snapped before, but in all honesty when you raise a puppy from a baby to a full grown dog, they seem to respect you more and know whats up when things go down.

  • I have a eskimo Spitz/ shepard And when somebody comes to my door he freaks the shit out. I have a feeling if somebody came in my house they would go out with a chunk out of there arm, just sayin

  • Really wish they would have used guarding breeds.

  • what do you expect from wimpy dogs? I have 2 rotts and they are scary

  • Its all about the breed, then the dog's personality! not every untrained dog would protect you, but most dogs will! BUT, that doesn't mean that untrained dogs are better, still each dog needs training regardless for protection, or guarding! People prefer the German Shepherd, or any other similar breed for protection and guarding, because most of them don't need training to do the job! I have a German Shepherd, I trained him myself for obedience only, but come try & touch, or even scream at me!

  • @SOZRASH This is so true. I don;t know why they went through all this effort and didn't at least try to implement an adequate test sampling of untrained common breads (like they did) and also untrained guard dog breeds like shepherds (as you mentioned) dobies, or rots. The officer didn't even acknowledge the distinction either (or they didn't air it) which is pretty pathetic. Lore says that dogs like dobies don't even require training to be an effective guard dog, which is why I have two.

  • yeah try to walk into my house like that..

  • dogs know when its real cus the dude was calm wen he went in the houses if it was forreals the dogs could sense the feelings of a real robber and a real robber woud be scared/nervous/paranoid

  • try dis with my 7moth german shepherd :D no reallly i wanna see wat he does i meen he agressive when ppl stand by the fence or some

  • @bboyem1 Oh and I forgot and they would take my dog with them too. The only hope I got is that they see her and get scared when they see my pit cause she looks like a beast. She gets along with any animal.

  • Not all dog I have a pit and someone could break into my house n she wont do anything at all but I rather have my pit to act like that cause if she was protected that's when ureally can't trust ur dog . Plus pit already have a bad rep so why teach them to be some type of guard dog when they are not.

  • Yea try this with my Rottweiler. You're gonna be crying like a biiitch.

  • bullshit, lab, westie&golden,i am laughin my arse off.my mali is not trained and he would rip your skin off if you just put your finger in my yard!whata fucking idiots!

  • Horrible test. These are NOT dogs that are natural guardians. I have a pit mix, a RR/Shepherd Mix, and a Dachshund. I was home when someone tried to break in, and the Dachshund barked his head off, the pit mix hit the door at 100 miles an hour intent to protect, and the RR mix put himself between me and the intruder. Had the man proceeded into my home...he wouldn't have gotten far. Now what they would do when we aren't home is uncertain...they are protective of us...not so much things/territory.

  • My dog won't let you in unless your family. Friend have tried and got bit.

  • @ArsenalFC1019 what dog u got?

  • I think all dogs will protect you if an intruder came in, i have 2 small dogs and they are very friendly to people they know, I think its dogs instincts to protect when they/we are threatened

  • well my not so trained rottweiler let some friends in when i wasn't home, even though i trained him with an agitator with a professional, so unless it is for convicing thiefs to go to another house don't trust too much on him/her. Better get a good lock, cause this friendly dudes just want to play

  • Funny thing, Even when I come home my dog still bark at fur standing up until she sees me, I remember I let a friend in that I had not introduced to me German Shepherd. Almost got bit I felt kinda bad lol.

  • i have a 5 year old wiener/pitbull mix named Boo, aka the roided weiner, n he does bite ppl if they walk in unannounced. but if he hears me say come in then ur safe but u better mind ur manners. He saved me from a bunch of drunk friends tryin to give me birthday spankings.

The meter man is scared shitless of Boo but not Tank (my roommate's 110lb rotty)

If i tell him to watch the baby( my nephew) nobody comes close to the little kid

Not all dogs r worthless like the first two

  • my dog would show them where all the good stuff is and leave with the burglars!

  • LOL the first 2 dogs are worthless

  • i have a 2 year old black lab. he doesnt bite but barks at strangers which is exactly what i want. christmas eve he was barking at everyone who came in and out the back door acting agressively but never bit anyone. when i walk him he walks by past people like theyre not there. love my lab.

  • Tucker is GOREGOUS!!! *dies of cuteness* xx

  • the dogs also know if the person coming in is bad or not..they can sense it.

  • @TheHockeyChicks -I totally agree that they know if they are a friend or foe-my very laid back dog has shown me this-and yes he is bark and no bite but thery don't know that cause he's BIG

  • OMG milo looks like my dog but i dont know what kind of dog he is :(

  • dumbasses they REALLY think a 25 pound dog isn't onna run away from a burglar?

  • I gotta say it depends. And also alot of dogs react to their masters distress not a break in. I had my house broke in with my 4 year old male lab, and I found him locked in a room. Im sure he greeted the robber with tail a waggin. But a year later my sisters boyfriend was over and me and him got in a fist fight. My dog barked and growled and was nasty, then when the fight went to the floor my dog bit him in the face. It wasnt like a pitbull bite but it left a nasty gash

  • 99% of the dogs are afraid, they will run away from danger. The 1% are the crazy dogs and must or will be put a sleep.

The attacking dog is like a guy on drugs or steroids just f***ed up and eager to bite/attack. They even attack their own family members. Throw a stomach of a pig into the house of the attacking dog and fill it with a sleeping pill. You only need 5 minutes.

  • @juakaliify so i suppose you consider the dog that saved a kid from getting kidnapped by a child molester or the one that attacked a robber that was threatening his family at gunpoint, crazy? How about the one that stopped a man from abducting his ex wife or the one that saved a soldiers life in iraq? Dogs are very intuitive creatures that know when something is happening that shouldnt be and a lot of the time will respond accordingly. obviously there are the occasional bad apples but most of

  • @juakaliify the time they are justified in attacking.

  • Typo

  • This well not work if testing your theory. The reason why is because dogs since here and if there is no fear being sensed them it will not likely see something as wrong. Almost almost all dogs that have owners will protect one way or another is it does see a real attack. I trained dog is simply meant to see signs of an aggressor before an attack happens

  • A dog wouldnt protect the house its not trained to bite but i bet if someone was hitting/intimidating there owner the dog would of packed a bit more punch.

  • My untrained mastiffs once attacked a drunk in the park because he wouldn't back off of me even after I told him repeatedly to get out of my face and just leave. They jumped on him and pinned him down. He peed. The same two dogs also detained someone in our house once. I came home to find a teen in my house holding my stereo, crying his eyes out. The dogs had let him in but when he tried to leave, they cornered him and refused to let him. He also peed.

    So yeah.

  • This is retarded. NONE of these breeds are protection breeds. Try entering the house with my (untrained) mastiffs or with someone who has a territorial shepherd or doberman! This test is insultingly flawed.

  • @lexigore :They will do nothing if you act friendly, not aggresive. Give them a cookie and talk with a high voice and you can play with them. Trust me.

  • @juakaliify My dogs do not respond to friendly strangers, they are naturally aloof towards people who are not "pack" and naturally suspicious - won't even take food from strangers. There have been plenty of times during the upbringings of my 2 mastiffs and one dane that they have demonstrated this. If a human is not "pack", they are treated with dignified snobbery or defensive warnings. This goes especially for men, friendly acting or not who approach me at night,

  • Come to my house and try this shit

  • you just walk in it could be a friend the dog doesnt know that your bad try going in bangin on the door or somein

  • They got it right at the end. The intruder is not an adrenaline charged burglar. He is displaying calm body language - not the sort of shady body language or fearful body language a burglar confronted with a dog would display.

The owners aren't home. There's a big difference between territorial aggression and pack drive.

The breeds selected aren't guarding breeds.

My Australian Kelpie attacked a man coming through my window when he was 12 months old and chased away 2 car thieves.

  • Ive had 3 dogs in my life that no one would get in my house or out none were trained, a 90 lb dalmatian, a 120lb pitty, and a 220lb saint that held two people by the throat kept a guy in the bathroom of the house overnight, and chased a cop down a flight of stairs ,i use to tell him he was an asshole thats why he had no friends, may they all rest in peace miss you guys.

  • I like dogs..but i prefer to protect my family with a sawed off shot gun

  • @FOBmzunguREPTILICUS : and that is the best protection. Some sleeping gas and the dog will be in dreamland.

  • but the thing is you cant just test 3 dogs if you want to know if your dog will protect you test it yourself

  • My friend taught his dog to attack on command, he told his dog to attack me. had a scar for ALONG time.

  • I agree with 7mikethebike -the trained dog was a GSD but the untrained dogs were from terrier/ field type back grounds, i have 2 dobermans and a akita i KNOW a stranger wouldnt be leaving with any of my possetions..if those three were on a walk and my sons dog was home alone (small x breed) the only danger they would face is being licked to death! All of my girls will welcome anyone in to my home-provided i bring them in but if im not there its been proven to be different!

  • my dog, untrained, would bite any unknown intruder on sight. It depends on the breed, and the individual dog's makeup. Breeds like rottweilers and GSD's have a long history of being bred to guard against human enemies. Most hunting dogs just have not been selected for that type of mental/social characteristic, and it is unfair to ewxpect such a dog to instinctively be aggressive towards humans. I would like to see this experiment (and the one done by the young girl) done with an Ovcharka.

  • i would want to see them break in the house so the do could attack him

  • I have 6 dogs that are all show dogs, but someone broke into my house and 4 out of my 6 protected the house, when I returned They had blood all over them. The guy jumped backed out the window he came in from and was later arrested, because he went to the hospital and the police were waiting! I love the fact that they are nice, but will protect their turf with their lives!!!

  • Mine would kill the burglars

  • Y do those police dog only attack the hand

  • @MrBroski619 They are trained that way, they don't want to kill the criminals but hold them until the cop arrives.

  • @damnit20 OOH

  • @silverproject if u think German shephard is an over weight dog at 100-130 pds u ain't seen nothing yet the PD Where I live have German shephard for a K-9 and he ways in at 140-160 and is broad muscle up front and train to kill soo do research b4 u talk shit on german shephards

  • what a stuped story this is , you dont need to hold a PhD to understend that if any of those dogs were raised on chain, than they would be a real property protectors dogs.

  • I think any dog that is a "family member" will protect whether trained or not. I had a little pom/dachshund mix to get between me and a man who was raising his voice to me. She was not trained but saw him as a threat to me, with her ears down, her tail down, she bore her teeth and had a very low growl. Another was a lab who would protect his family and his territory. He made friends with the neighbors(his extended family) and protected them and their property too.

  • @Gma1456 I definitely agree. I have an untrained 4 year old Dutch Shepherd mix. Whenever someone she doesn't recognize comes into the house (or if their face is hidden by a hood despite any familiar scent) then she starts barking, growling and her hackles go up. I have no doubt that she would attack someone if they truly meant harm towards my parents, myself and my siblings.

  • Some kid broke into my house with my two untrained dogs (1 bullmastiff, 1 mastiff x) and by the time I got home from work, the kid was still there crying that the dogs let him in but wouldn't let them out. Also in a park a drunk once "stepped up" on me despite my warnings and both my dogs jumped on him and pinned him. My 8 month old dane puppy is also a natural guard. It's about temperament. End of story.

  • @lexigore Two bullmastiffs and a dane....wow. How many pounds of dog food do those guys go through in a month? Just curious.

  • @medicineman1317 A whole lot and a whole lot of raw bone and the occasional whole raw chicken or rabbit carcass!

  • @lexigore lol.....kinda like the joke "where does a 500 lb gorilla sit? Anywhere he wants to!" B-)

  • @medicineman1317 Hehe totally. Mastiffs are apex guards, it's in their blood and all my mastiffs have been like this. Gentle and affectionate with "pack" and wary of strangers. they are polite with strangers but not warm and have time and time again showed me they will not tolerate drunks approaching me, men coming to close at night, strangers entering the home when I'm asleep or not there and such. they always growl softly and put their bodies in front of mine. It's natural to them.

  • My 3 pound chihuahua WILL do what Leo did. He bites and snaps at strangers, guests, and the laundry.

    LOL

  • WTF? Nice choice of breeds you idiots. If you wantto test this, use breeds that are bred to protect.

  • @mrbooger33333 But dogs that are bred to guard are usually not family pets

  • @silversnowman17 German shepehrds, mastiffs, rotties, dobermans and American bulldogs are not popular family pets? C'mon, now.

  • @silversnowman17 Yes they are family pets. If you give them enough attention at puppy hood and command that dominant role, they become amazing family pets (maybe even better than the popular breeds...)

  • @mrbooger33333 THANK YOU. Exactly what I was thinking. Who would expect a tiny terrier and a Golden Retriever to protect a house from strangers? I'm surprised the lab was protective...

  • @caitylin190 The lab did protect? I didn't watch the vid when I saw the breeds. Maybe I'll watch it now. I have a pit, a European GSD and a mutt that are not trained, but nobody better break in my house.

  • @caitylin190 Ok, it did a little protecting. It looks like a lab mix though.

  • @mrbooger33333 Either way, this was a terrible study and they really need to update it with dogs that people are more likely to purchase in order to have someone protect their home. People don't get little white dogs, Golden Retrievers, and Labs so they can train them to be protective (or not train them and rely on their instincts).

  • @caitylin190 lol I know. This was just crap. I don't really consider what the black dog did protecting. The inturder did not really do much theatening behavior either. Let's see them do this study with GSD or an American Bulldog or even a Fila. Now that would be a test.

  • @mrbooger33333 And I love how the police officer doing the study was saying how you don't want the dog to be biting or behaving in a threatening way. You just want it to bark and stand still. Like really? No. I want my dog to attack and make sure that an intruder never comes in my home again. That might not be model behavior from a dog though...

  • @caitylin190 That was just PC crap. My dogs would attack if someone broke in and they would definately try to kill someone hurting my wife. daughter or me. They are also great with welcomed guests and would protect them the same way. That's how I think it should be and would not change a thing. I think dogs that guard are better pets since they have more of a pack mentality rather than an un-natural, totally submissive to everyone mentality like many dogs. What dogs do you have?

  • @mrbooger33333 I have a two year old GSD, a 12 year old Basset Hound, and we just recently adopted a one year old Border Collie/Dalmatian mix. So we have a pretty good pack of dogs haha. My Basset Hound is still friendly as ever, but she has proved herself to be a pretty good watch dog after watching my GSD's behavior. A year ago, we had an intruder enter our home in the middle of the night and neither of my dogs are trained, but my GSD attacked the man, saving us all. What dogs do you have?

  • @caitylin190 I have a female shelter mutt about 40 lbs, but she would definately attack. I also have a young GSD, he' already protective and a pitbull. My pit is even protective, but I think he learned it from my female. That's cool that your dogs saved you guys. My dogs are loud and sound feirce from behind the door our fence, so I think that would keep most people out. I'm thinking about getting an anatolian sheperd too. I live in Tucson and there is a high percentage of home invasions here.

  • @mrbooger33333 labs can protec and so can retrivers but u also got to train them to but some come natruly like my 2 labs that are very protective i harly take them on walks becuz they are so protective so ya u dont neciserly need a traind dog some times it comes naturly

  • @kiba663 Labs are very powerful dogs with big muscular head and necks. Usually their temperment is too soft to be a guard dog, but I have seen some that did scare the hell out of me. I went with a GSD, because I wanted to be sure he would guard. That's cool that your labs will protect you. I have a pit as well, but he would greet a robber like family ( unless the robber was a dog, lol)

  • @mrbooger33333 Agree. Take a livestock guarding breed & try even walking on the property. I have seen labs, retrievers, even chihuahua's be aggressive toward unknown people. However, I have never seen a livestock guarding breed like the Caucasian Ovcharka, Kangal, Tibetan Mastiff, etc NOT guard it's home & property. Ridiculous test to use the breeds they did. I also think the lab mix was lab/pit mix.

  • @kangaldogs0331 A Kangal would have been a great test. This was just some politically correct BS in my opnion. They even said a dog should bark, but not attack. WTF is that? I wanted a Kangal or Caucasian, but I have a school behind me with young kids playing behind a chain link fence, so I went with a GSD. He is the East German type though. Is there much difference between a Kangal or an Anatolian Shepherd. I've heard they're pretty much the same breed.

  • Depends on the breed i guess... My "UNTRAINED" GSD attacked a guy who tried to steal something from my house lol.

  • ...a terrior, lab, and retriever... is this a joke? Why not throw a cat in their as well.

Throw a shepherd, pit, rotty etc in the mix please.

  • omg, no of the dog used is a gard dog.

  • I had a 6 GSD and family and kids were all sleeping upstairs Christmas eve around 3 am someone tried to break in and he kept barking and growling until we woke up and called the cops and there was an attempted break in however the person was not caught. Anyhow dog saved us

  • If you want a guard dog, get one. None of these are attack dogs, and I knew from the start that the first two were just going to invite the person in. They were very socialized. Not that socialization is a bad thing, but if your dogs not people friendly, he/she's not letting anyone in the house...(Although I highly recommend socializing your dog, so their a good K9 citizen)

  • Please. Test this on my 130lb German Shepherd.

  • @KramerUSA unless you have a king shepherd, your obese german shepherd at 130lbs would probably just lay there and not move. german shepherds male, average 88-90 lbs MAX. 100 lbs in some cases. but for a german shepherd to weigh 130 lbs, it's either not a gs or it's just plain out WAY overweight.

  • @silverproject He's a king. His dad is a retired drug sniffer.

  • @silverproject Correct...American bred GSD will come in between 70-85 lbs healthy. This is not the case for pure bred european dogs that are being shipped to the states. Commonly those dogs come to the US for police and law enforcement and teeter on the 110-120 range at a very healthy weight. In years of working with K9 handlers, I don't believe I ever heard them referenced anything other than pure-bred.. not "kings"

  • Every dog is different, I guess they happened to pick 3 docile dogs. I never trained my rottie mix to be protective, but she was, I had to stop her from attacking this one cable guy who would go into our backyard without knocking on the door first to ask if there was a dog. She was always instantly at the door, growling, howling whenever someone was lurking in the driveway...I that cop would not have gotten such a warm welcome if he tried my house alone

  • Awful journalism, choosing non-guarding breed family pets! Burgle the home of a mature male GSD or Rottie = very different result.

If no one is home, my GSD will let you enter, he'll approach you confidently, but if you had a ball, he'd play with you. But enter uninvited with the kids at home & he will not let you pass him. He's not trained to bite cos I don't want him to & it's irresponsible, but he won't let a stranger close enough to hurt a family member, especially inside his own home.

  • @deephousemanagement Not really. I had a rott growing up. She was wary/standoffish with strangers, but she was NEVER a barker. She'd size some one up, but that was about it. Our cockers raised more of a fuss when a stranger came by. Example - UPS came by one day. Empress was in the backyard the others in their kennels. Came around front squeezed through the main gate of our front door walk up and simply sat and watched and then laid down. That's it. Not a growl not a bark.

  • Some dogs make a good watchdog but not a good protector, my dog is a tibetan terrier and he acts like a watchdog, every time when someone or something like a cat comes, he barks and goes crazy for it alerting me about it.

  • Test My Rottweiler !! ;)

  • @LetMeGetY0uHigh lol i can imagine if they tested crazier dogs

  • why dont they try to come and test my dogs ;)

  • my house was broken into and my shepard immeadtly brought them to the ground and we had to pull her off and call the police so they could come and get the guy...at night she is worse we have to leave the hallway light on so we can go out of our rooms at night so she doesnt mistake us for a burgular

  • ive an untrained german sheperd and he was ready to pull my sisters boyfriend apart during a row with me he pinned him to the ground with teeth out and growling but hes fantastic with our kids. I think he must have thought that my kids where in danger with all the commotion.

  • It is odd that they didn't test guard dogs... no German Shepherds, no Dobermans, no Rottweilers, no Filas, no Pitbulls... what a stupid video!

  • @AgentPepsi1 I think its because its obvious that those kind of dogs would do something because its in their nature, so its not really something people question.

But as an owner of a labrador who is never anything but friendly, I often wonder what she would do if someone broke in or tried to attack. But I think in reality she would just go up to them and lick them lol.

  • @GetInThaKitchen

That is a good question. A GF of mine has a huge (probably 100 pound), 5 year old Golden Retriever mix. Her home was broken into with her and the dog inside. Her dog did nothing, except bark happily... and want to play with the burglar. She scared him off with a shotgun.

I have a very large, about 90 pound Pitbull. She is extremely protective of her family, and me especially. I am certain that the burglar would have been severely bit coming into my home.

    Tasha :-)

  • @AgentPepsi1 Yeah I think labs are pretty useless protectors lol but perfect friends.

  • @GetInThaKitchen my friend is a dog trainer and trains personal protection dogs, dogs in advanced obedience she also deals with many problem dogs. She can make a pure bred lab and great dane attack on command but still love people. It all depends on the dogs personality, drive, where and how it was brought up and the parents temperment. ANY dog can be nice and any dog can be dangerous. Look up aggressive golden retriever, lab attack and protection labrador.

  • @Haruhikittty Ah nice I just looked up those vids and I'm suprised to see labs acting so aggressively!

  • @AgentPepsi1 I agree. This video proved absolutely nothing. None of those dogs shown are guard dogs and neither of them are naturally aloof of strangers.

  • lol the golden retriever. golden retrievers probably aren't the best guard dogs. they're too sweet.

  • what if the golden retriever is a doberman?

  • Although it does sound like he was more trouble then anything the police officer even told me we had a REALLY good guard dog. I couldn't stop apologizing because it was the police officer who had seen the fire and he ran to our backyard where he was faced with our dog. Luckily he got out without injury, but he told me "I ran straight into your back yard & all I see is black smoke then I hear barking & I see your dog coming out of the smoke. He looked like a demon from hell But he's one good dog"

  • I had a German Sheppard who was untrained and he protected our house whether or not we were home. Once our house caught on fire while everyone was at work and school. Our dog was tied to a runner in the backyard and it was long enough to get him into his doggie and have access to art of the house. Anyways, when our house had caught on fire the main fire was in back part of the house. The fireman had to stand on the roof to put out the fire because our dog wouldn't let anyone near the house.

  • My dog is untrained and he acts like Leo he attacked 2 people already first time we got lucky and he didnt charge us but it counted as a warning from the cops 2nd time he attacked somebody they sued us and now hes a dangerous dog my dog attacks everyone he killed like like 10-15 raccons and opposums every 6months he killed 1 fox and he attacked 4 other peoples dog lucky 2 got away and the other 2 were badly hurt they didnt sue though because they were family and friends so german shepardswillatk

  • There are too few variations in this scenario. The K9 in the beginning is definitely doing the job of a trained attack dog, however it is too hard to tell if the K9 officer gave him some type of attack command. I like the disclaimer they gave at the end it makes more sense, I bet Charlie would attacked had they used the owner in the house to sit on the couch while the handler came in and acted like he was attacking the person. This would have been a more realistic test scenario.

  • @timcp1 I agree dogs that are not trained usually won't protect someone they don't know.

  • Why didn't they do the same "so called" test on a Doberman Pincher ? or a German Shepard? or a Rottweiler? please, dumb video and a waste of a report.

  • Experts on the Animal Planet show Dogs 101 have said that Goldens are far too friendly to be effective guard dogs. But you never know if the "protect" instinct will kick in if their owner was being attacked or threatened.

  • All dogs are different. Some breeds have more potential for being guard dogs, but sometimes even the friendliest dogs can surprise you. I've had a stray dog defend my place during holidays once, and I know an old lady's austr shepherd who is normally too lazy to move but pulled a guy off his bike after he nearly ran me over.

  • My German Shepherd won't let anyone near me if they act or move aggressively. She is such a good girl. Strangers can't even come close to the house without us knowing. One night we heard a loud noise in the garage. I grabbed my AR and she led the way. You'd never think any of this behavior is possible when she's around me on happier circumstances.

  • Dogs are not necessarily going to protect the alpha's territory, but they will protect their pack members. If a house is empty, the dog will likely not do a thing. If the house has people in it at the time--especially children--the dog is FAR more likely to go into protective mode. Burglars who break into empty homes are not likely to be aggressive. Burglars who attack families are, and that's what gets the dog worked up.

  • German Shepard/Australian Shepard mix with no training will and has protected the house from invasion. If the guy didn't shut the sliding glass door and run my dog probably would have killed him. That was the first time my dog actually had to protect his family and he's been more protective than ever since that day.

  • This whole thing is silly. They picked three dogs that have no guard dog background. Why didn't they choose Rotty, GSD, Presa, Cane Corso, RR,Tosa, Fila,.....something that would protect it's home? Any dog IS a good deterant for criminals......they will move on to an easier target, like the house next door without a dog. If someome is really out to get you, no dog will stop them. Bullets can bring down a highly trained dog quickly.

  • They weren't on the dogs property nor was the

  • You can try our Rottweiler! I just give you little chance.

    Look at my youtube channel.

  • well i have a mix of a golden retriver and something else but*blackie* he is a SWEETHEART to his owners(he will let me grab him and rock him and do alot of stuff that would hurt him but he would not care..hes just smile and wag his tail) he is MEAN to strangers..one day i was sitting on the front porch and a man was jogging down the road and waved hi to me and blackie bit him and ran back to me after he was done..blackie is NOT a trained dog but will do ANYTHING to protect his family!

  • Some dog breeds are more suspicious and protective than others. I had a White German Sheppard that I have seen protect my home and actually block a stranger passing through the yard. She wouldn't let him move until we took her by the collar but she never attacked. My boxer on the other hand....I'm curious. She may just want to play.

  • with 5 dogs in our house.

    its a suicide mission, garanteed.

bull terriers are very protective about their home and family.

  • Would the be in charge of neo's,ovcharkas ,kangals,tosa's ,presa canarios,canis panther dog,dogo argentino,cane corso.I wseriously wonder.

  • This is so stupid, Not every dog is going to be the same. I have a 187 pound English Mastiff, and I know he would protect my house and my family because he's had to do it before. He's never been trained, yet when the time came he did exactly what he should have. 6 months ago around 1.a.m my wife and I were laying on the couch watching TV when out of nowhere some drunk guy just walks right into our house. My dog without even hesitating rushed the man, knocked him to the floor, and held him there

  • I've had many dogs and the BEST dog I ever had was a GSD (German Shepherd Dog). Great line from Belgium and we sacrificed a ton of money to get him specially trained at an academy and boy was that worth every penny. He did everything on command which was great, but it was his loving yet tough nature really made him a part of our family and our greatest protector (next to hubby and his gun). Love the GSD's!

  • @bigwaverider1000 These breeds may be capable of protection but only a small percentage of any of these breeds will actually protect u with their lives. Check with any police K9 unit. A lot of prospective K9 dogs wash out of the program because they don't have all the necessary drives and tempermant.

  • Guy I knew had two Dobermans, had signs up around his house. Got broken in to, they let him in but when he wanted to leave; they got him and shred him to pieces. He didn't die, the owner came home, but never walked again.

  • lol my dog would give the robber the ball

  • I had a chihuahua mix who would go nuts when a stranger came in. My uncle one time tried to kick her away but she just tried to bite him. I would just take her away till she calmed down then she was fine but always suspicious of the most sudden movements lol. She even barked and nipped when me and my sister wrestled. I too bad i had to give her away. I miss her dearly

  • well lets see what a doberman would do!!! or a mastiff or a chow chow!!!

  • It would be interesting to see what they would do if their owners were home. Dogs care more about keeping their owners safe than keeping the owners possesions safe.

  • who would be scared of a little white dog? i mean really the other 2 yes but a small white dog that would maybe cause 10 stitches?
