too bad Lamb is not representative of the rest of the MSM. He is great interviewer and doesnt put ideology into them. most likey a liberal, he never insults or promotes an agenda in his work. admirable.
The only thing I've heard the Nick gets wrong is the abortion issue. First of all, I think many more than 30% of Libertarians are pro-life. I think this is the most vexing issue for Libertarians because the most fundamental right of all is the RIGHT TO LIFE.
@vince33x So he's wrong because he uses a statistic as an opinion, and you disagree with his opinion, and yet you have no evidence one way or the other to the contrary.
@SquashDog01 Two things: 1) the most prominent Libertarian in the country is Ron Paul and he's staunchly Pro-Life, 2) Without the Right to Life, there are NO RIGHTS...see the 4th Amendment on the subject.
@SquashDog01 BTW, if Nick is pro-abortion, that's a position, that on its face, is abhorrent to Individual Liberty, which is what our Constitution and the LP are all about. Nick needs to do a little more soul-searching on this issue.
Ah yes, the libertarian masturbation fantasy. Unlike feudalism, capitalism, socialism, or even communism, libertarianism has never existed in actual practice, but only in the simplistic imaginations of some.
Gillespie is a first-rate ass, which indicates one thing--the merits of his argument are weak.
After seeing Gillespie on Maher, I had to see what I could find out about him. He could well be the most unlikable, arrogant asshole I've ever seen; and not half as intelligent as he thinks he is. Almost like a short-man's complex.
@killerecho what did he say that made you think he's a prick? i watched this a week or two ago on tv and don't remember anything that gave me that impression. in fact he came across very reasonable to me.
@L188188 specifically what did he say in this interview that makes him an ass? interviews like this on c-span are some of the only watchable tv shows left.
@KagarBeardtooth There's room for a compromised view of libertarianism. His idea of a safety net is probably no where near the kind we have now, but there could be something for some people.
Hopefully his idea would be funded by the beneficiaries directly and not be a ponzi scheme or a "redistribution of wealth." Either way, I'm surprised that he doesn't have 1) more faith in a system of private savings or charities, and 2) more constitutional reservations regarding such a welfaristic idea.
Actually Nick, bone marrow is ILLEGAL to sell directly, or even for donors to be compensated by a third party nonprofit organization, despite the fact it is safe to donate and replaceable. It's currently the subject of an IJ lawsuit, on the grounds that it should not be included with kidney and other non-replaceable organs in the law. Visit IJ.org for more information this case.
I'd say the one thing I disagree with is Nick's take on tax funding for political campaigns. In Canada I think it went the Liberals ended corporate donations, replacing them with a per-vote subsidy to parties that got 2% or more of the vote, and the Conservatives also ended union donations. Party funding goes about 40% by their number of votes and 60% private donations and the tax deducted for them. It feels pretty good to have no corporate or union money going to the federal parties.
Nick, you were incorrect about the Taliban not wanting to give up Bin Laden. In Oct. 2001 the Taliban offered Bush Bin Laden if the US would stop bombing the country and have a third party country put him on trial and Bush refused "When I said no negotiations I meant no negotiations," Mr Bush said. "We know he's guilty. Turn him over. There's no need to discuss innocence or guilt."
I am a conservative. I agree with many many Libertarian views. Very few I do not share with my Libertarian com-padre. But admittedly Nick is a true American in every way. Jeffersonian in his views. Which I greatly admire. In my view, Conservatives and Libertarians are true Americans. Rinos and Dems? Should be put on a boat to Cuba.
Lamb's a top interviewer. Asks good questions and allows his guest to answer. Like when he interviews people like Christopher Hitchens and Nick Gillespie because he gives them time to explain and isn't out for soundbite responces.
@lifer434: I know, I just think it's funny that Brian Lamb's Q&As always have a shit ton of footage on them. It's like he's brainstorming questions and then goes "ah fuck it, I'll play some montages and ask him to explain them."

Brian Lamb is the best interviewer extant. The Liberal morons on the mainstream networks could learn something from Mr. Lamb.

Why was he an ass?
Maher did his usual thing of inviting 5 dems and one other.
Maher is fundamentaly acinical nihilist who does not belive in anything.
