  • Well, actually the original engines were 6V53 NA Detroits which are approximately 2300 lbs each, 215 HP @ 2600 RPM.

  • Your PBR would be much quicker and sound ALOT better with the original power...twin 12V71 Detroit Diesels (2 cycle)...which at approximately 3200 lbs per engine would sit your PBR lower in the water & with the hp (approx. 450 per engine @ 2,500 rpms) would have given you faster throttle response and good high speed planing. But...hey, at least you have one of your own..enjoy !

  • I was on PBRs in Vietnam. A buddy of mine was in 532, I'll ask him if he knew a VL Taylor.

I was in 535. This boat looks a "little slow"... needs either more horsepower or more weight to get the hull deeper in the water to allow more water into the pumps which will get the boat on step easier (also WHERE that weight is counts). We ran at least 14,000 pounds gross.

  • L8Pilot, ... For some nightime PBR patrols we had special audio gear and speakers that could be heard a long way off. Much louder than any boom box ... More like Chicago, Steppenwolf, or Foghat's concert level. ... I've seen the same speakers mounted under Hueys.

  • big geil

  • my dream boat! i want one so bad

  • I wish my Uncle was alive to see this. He piloted one of these in the Mekong Delta, River Section 532.

    RIP V.L. Taylor

  • I tried mounting the biggest boom box in my company on UH1-B's and N's, and you still could not hear it over the sound of the engine. It was a great scene from "Apocalypse Now", but , as much as I love it, it is not realistic.

  • One of my favorite boats and songs

  • AWESOME and GREAT JOB on the restoration!!!!! Now I want one!
