this tune is like a twin brother to the power expressed within voodoo child (slight return) by jimi hendrix -- it deserves the same fame & respect! <3 <3 i own this record on original vintage vinyl & i adore it! freddie king with the help of leon russell (a god) could only have produced such genius! i miss this music!
I think the song was actually written by Don Nix, Leon's friend and former Stax musician and acquaintance of Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, et al. I'm sure this arrangement is Russell's take on the song.
Go check out my version on Junior HOOKER THEY WON'T LET ME POST MY VIDEO RESPONSES UP THEY TAKE EM OFF AS FAST AS I PUT THEM OM CAUSE THEY ARE A BUNCH OF SUCK ASS OPPRESSORS ANYWAYS IM PLAYING BY MYSELF SO I HAVE TO DO TWO PARTS BUT ITS GOOD LOL SO ENJOY
Obviously my cover can never hold a flame to the King's, but you should take a listen to my band's homage - vimeo,com/13805007 (replace the comma with a period) - We're called Andre and the Giants. It's poor live quality and our first time playing it, but hopefully somebody likes it.
All are right. I've talked to Don about this song several times while working at The Memphis Music Hall of Fame, 97 S. 2nd St., downtown Memphis. I had Don's first single "Ain't About To Go Home," recorded when he was 16, -before The Mar-Keys. We had 3 of Freddy's guitars, as well as Carl Perkin's Les Paul he recorded "Blue Suede Shoes" on, one of Elvis' pianos, plus A TON of other incredible treasures!
@strings191 Willie Dixon may well have wrote more Rock and Roll hits than any one person. He was a prolific song writer, but Freddie King wrote this song.
@MikeDog52 Willie wrote a mess of Blues Tunes that were Rocked up by groups like Zepplin and Beck and others but I don't know if he wrote more Rock songs than any one person 'cause Muddy, Howlin Wolf, and a host of others contributed greatly to the Blues to Rock transition also. But there's no doubt about it Willie left his mark on music. He was a Studio Musician back in the day and a side man for nearly every Blues Guitar Slinger that came down the Pike.... Also Don Nix wrote this one.
* Excuse Me !! The Man Who told me he got Drunk and made up this Song Goin Down Was not Leon Russell !! It Was Don Nix people and you need to get that shit straight !!!! Vic Hursh - Drum's and Vocal's Tulsa,Oklahoma.

uuhhmmm I don't think Leon Russel wrote Going Down. I could be wrong but according to WIkipedia:
Going Down (song), written by Don Nix and originally performed by Freddie King, a mainstay of blues and rock musicians.
