This was a typical roh show to me nothing special. The Aries/Black match shouldn't have been for 60 minutes I almost feel asleep during the match. The Wolves/Briscoe match ended prematurely imo. It wasn't that great of a ppv.
I think in my opinion having aries retain against black in a 60 minute draw was a good idea because even the crowd shit on the match but it worked great because austin aries kept getting tyler to play in his hands for every time he's been dictating the pace of the match. so i would imagine that they may do a cage mage (like you said) of some sort or a match where there's no time limit at most likely 8th anniversary show. if they are going to put the belt of tyler black, they need to do it right
This pay-per-view actually holds a special place in my heart because it's the first pay-per-view besides WrestleMania 20 that I actually ordered and I wasn't even gonna order it but I came across what I guess you would call "free money" and decided what the hey.And it was the only "live" Ring of Honor show I ever seen besides 'Respect is Earned'.And when I say "live" I mean their non HDNet shows (which I thoroughly enjoy every week perhaps more than any other wrestling show on T.V.).
I think they put on the match of the week every week (with the exception of last week. That went to Desmond and Daniels).Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed this show despite the horrible audio.I thought I was the only one having audio problems.I mean sound was coming out of only one of my speakers and towards the end of the show the only person I can hear was that Eric guy.But I guess it was their fault and not mine. The crowd went dead after intermission which ruin the second half of the show for me.
But even with a dead New York crowd (really New York?Y'all making us look bad.) it was still great.I was VERY dissapointed my man Tyler Black didn't win.I mean it was the perfcet time and I thought for he would but if he ever do it's gonna feel like "Too late".But I'll tell you this, I have never been on the edge of my seat trembling nervously while watching a match since Jeff Hardy/Taker for the WWE title.
I think you rated it perfectly. Prazack's mic was fine. Santamaria (love the WR) was god awful. I wanted the Wolves to go over, but I liked Austin Aries winning (although it does kill Black). I will say that my stream froze a few times so I missed the end of Steenerico - Bucks, but I'll watch it again during Xmas weekend. Overall, it was good for ROH, but some of the matches were too short (Strong - King) while others were too long (Smith/ Stevens - Dempsey/Delirious). The crowd did suck too.
Black's not ready to be a main eventer with all his botching and greenness anyway. I can think of several wrestlers on the roster much more deserving: Chris Hero, Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, and Claudio Castagnoli to name four
If you started streaming the ppv before 7:30 you could hear Dave Prazak going over the mic's and production work and introducing Larry Sweeney..so I found out about Larry Sweeney before the ppv..which got me even more excited cause I love Larry Sweeney. For the most part the crowd booed the faces and cheered the heels. I wish I could have muted the idiot who kept shouting 'Tyler Cena' and 'Cena Sucks' Overall...glad I ordered it..can't beat it for the price..even though it was very long.

Being there live, the crowd shitted on everything Tyler Black did, the crowd was very disrespectful and anxious to go home because of the snow situation. They busted their ass but the timing was just horrible to book a 60 minute match. Give them credit but I just think they booking 60 minutes on a mega show is just too much.
If the card wasn't as stacked, if they had taken some time away from some of the other matches to allow this to go it's full length and still send us home before the stroke of midnight, yeah, it would have worked - but seeing that these fans were anxious to shit on Tyler regardless, can't see them being any nicer to the match even under those better circumstances.

Wrestling fans just don't get it anymore. It's about the story telling, not the flashy moves.
i get the storytelling aspect. the ppv was full of great storytelling but after 3 hours the last thing we needed was an hour long story time featuring 20 minutes of aries running like he always does. you got to play to your crowd. and New Yorkers are angry when it comes to that kind of act, especially after that much time.
There was a kid Cena fan holding up a replica WWE world title. The crowd booed the shit out of him, which was one of the more enjoyable moments of the evening.
@xEdgelitafans1x Of course not. Its damn wrestling it's all in good fun. If anything it makes wrestling fans look immature if they boo. Anyway on to the actual show, i'm getting mixed responses over the main event. Was it worth it or was it a dud?
Actually, i personally haven't seen the event yet but from what i read, it was really boring and booked horribly! Especially for an Austin Aries match.
I was at the event and it was awesome for the most part. The main event was destroyed by the fans themselves because of the booing at the end. I wanted Tyler to win and it didn't happened!
Overall, you have given this show the most fairest review. One thing I don't agree with you on is about Tyler black winning. That guy is no where near world championship material. He needs to be groomed a bit more. There are others in the company that need a push before him such as Chris Hero, Davey Richards, Kevin Steen, and even Kenny King. He is just not the right guy.
truthslayer this is y u r the best i was at this show live... and u rated it perfect man the main event honestly was terrible in person the whole crowd hated it and after the match tyler black got on the mic and said if you did not like this match ur not a real wrestling fan and everyone went nuts on him the main event killed my night
Agreed with the majority of things you said. I really liked the main event though, enjoyed the story, but was disappointed by the crowd. Loved everything Steen did, especially the spot when Matt Jackson spat his gum at Steen, then Steen picked it up and spat it at the other young buck. Whilst watching it, i started to think about a dvd release and what the audio/commentary would be like? Surely they couldnt do a new commentary track??
I didn't see the show & don't follow ROH regularly, but I will say that a bad crowd can really put a damper on a show.
I remember watching Lockdown this year and thinking "What is wrong with these people" and don't even get me started on the horrible crowd at Summerslam 2004 which was so bad it caused by 40 bucks to be a complete waste of money.
But its really hard to get excited while watching a wrestling show if the crowd isnt into it.. To me, the point of being there live is to play...
a role in the show. Wrestling is unlike any other form of entertainment as its really the only time we can actually be a part of the fictional universe & play some kind of part. The audience are essentially supposed to be very vocal extras.
So when the crowd isn't energetic, it feels like something is missing and it can really take away from the show as a whole.
I cannot agree more. The crowd can make and break an event sometimes. Look at WCW Starrcade 1996 and you will see a crowd that made an average PPV seem like a legendary one.
I thought the production was shitty. The skyline view was horrible. Mind you, I've been conditioned to watching the flashiness of ROH on HDnet so I was disappointed. I wasn't expecting HD production value but I at least wanted a non-skyline camera view. Audio was bad. The crowd got burnt out which helped kill the action. It also lacked atmosphere. The show was also too long. ROH, they've got some brushing up to do. For their first "PPV", this was not a good showing.
this show reminded me of A ROh show i went to last Sept, it was glory by honor 7 i think, but just b/c that show was like an a half hours almost like this one, but i enjoyed almost every sec of this show. I orderd it early and payed only 12 bucks, great deal. But man i somewhat called the Steen thing a week ag,o, he played that so well it was great! I didnt totally love the Main event, but in now way thought it deserved those idiots chants, i thought Tyler was def gonna win tho
Kingston/Hero match of the night. Hopefully Kingston will get some goddamn respect that he deserves. Although i thought hero was gonna win and get a main event push but the Kings Of Wrestling re-united so hopefully hero changes his puro style too his old Indy Style of wrestling.
I was in Spain and it lagged nothing. The only problem was audio, you couldnt hear Sweeney, and some pre-recorded videos you couldnt hear. The PPV was very good, but not usual ROH. Briscoes vs. Wolves was match in the night.
The main event sort of reminded me of Cena vs Michaels from WM23 were it was a good match but the wrong guy went over, it left a bitter taste in my mouth and definately hurt the match and show
That main event annoyed me, as Black should have won it, and a time limit draw wasn't exactly necessary. I also hope that Hero and Claudio win the ROH Tag titles. I really have grown bored of the Briscoes.
so you wanted me to get this PPV and it turned out to be a fuckin 7.00, fuckin TLC was like a 7.00 and i dident like that very much so fuck ROH it anit worth my money
Them New York wrestling fans are a bunch of spoiled brats. Pointless "Fuck You, Cena" chants. Booing Peter Rosenberg. Shitting on the main event. ROH should do more serious shows in Canada. Forget Manhattan Mayhem, give me "Mississauga Mayhem".LOL
it was my first ppv ever (in my country it isn´t so easy to get them on tv and they are damn expensive so i normally watch a stream the next day) but well with this opportunity given to watch it live on the internet i bought it in my opinion beside the horrible audio they sometimes didn´t take the best camera angle but it wasn´t bad productions wise... match wise i was hoping for more violence/blood in the eddie kingston match (after the piledriver you saw him telling the ref that he is fine)
thats what i meant with the camera angles... also i think we missed 2-3 little spots because of the angles... but hell of course they cant have prdoction values as high as wwe´s so im fine with that.. because of the different time zones it was 5:30am while the main event was running and i felt asleep -.- anyway to sum it up I DO NOT REGRET BUYING IT and it was the perfect possibility to show the major promotions that ROH has a worldwide fan community I freaking loved this internet ppv idea
Good Video, I give your review a 3 stars. If you didn't waste so much time bragging about how ROH knows you, I would have given it a 4 star rating. LOL! Just kiddn. I missed the PPV so that sux for me.
I was going to order it but completely lost track of time. I watched a replay stream and it was an ok show. 7.0 is a very fair rating. I hated the Main Event if I paid for it I would have been mad. The match was being built up as a feud ender and we get a bull shit finish. ROH needs to stop pushing Black or leave him off the roster for 6 months before he gets more heat.
I got lucky. during the second half, I could hear the crowd at all. I only got to hear Sweeny and Dave. Watch it with on mute. It's a four and a half star match.
thank you truthslayer. unlike a lot of other people reviewing this, you did a fine job of taking the good and the bad into account without being blindly praising of the show or just flat out shitting all over it. That 7.0 is deserved for terrible audio, an atrocious booking job on the main event, and for the most part, underdelivering on the other money matches on that show (which even includes Bucks and Steenerico, although it was damn close to meeting my high expectations).
listen...you have the biggest show of the year available to the entire world. This is the first time I've ever paid money to see an ROH show, as I imagine it is for other people who don't have the luxury of seeing shows live and can't get into shows 3 months after the fact. To give your fans a time limit draw after building Tyler Black up for an entire year at your biggest show in a long time (not just this year) is unacceptable.
So you think giving the face the title, despite him getting a mixed reaction from a crowd that was ready to shit all over him the second his name was announced is more acceptable? Having both your major titles change hands on the same night, over to face champions is more acceptable? Especially if the main title doesn't have any readily available heel contenders (what with Claudio and Hero teaming back up, and Kenny King still being too fresh to the main event scene)?
OK, then let Aries WIN the match. Why on God's green earth do we have to let this feud continue? If putting the belt on Black is not viable now, will it be in 4 months when people will care even less about him? Maybe Aries will drop the belt at Supercard or Anniversary to Tyler with heels galore waiting for him. But until then, ROH is going to have a stale product
A FEW fans in the New York area have turned on Black. His reception, much like Nigel's when he was still a new champion, is still strong as a face persona outside of the New York area. The idea that "no one will care" is wrong because of the perception of a few bad apples in New York lead you to believe that the entire base of ROH fans are like this?
And you don't put the heel over when the payoff down the road is to sell Black as Aries' greatest adversary to his title.
Tyler Black has not shown me any reason to get behind as a face, or boo him as a heel. Nigel got over as a heel because he had the promo skill to capitialize off of the brutal NYC fanbase; Tyler isn't able to do that. As for a later payoff, THIS was supposed to be the payoff. Streamed live on the internet, a year after Aries turned heel by waffling Tyler in the head with a chair; this was it. And I'm a casual ROH fan, and they wasted their final chance for me get behind him.
Take No Prisoners 2008 was his breakout match in ROH, and he's lived off of that momentum in his current run to the main event scene. Fans were largely behind him because he played a great sympathetic face in the ring against Nigel's heel persona, and nothing has changed barring who he's chasing for the title now. The fans turning on him is illogical, much like when they turned on Nigel in the first place.
Tyler's momentum started dying after Injustice when he had his first "time limit draw" with Nigel. That would've been a fantastic time to put the belt on him, albeit it's a much clearer decision in retrospect due to Nigel's injury and Lynn's lackluster title reign. After that and Manhattan Mayhem fans started turning on him.
As for Nigel, he was tremendously over as a face, especially into his title run, but because of a few NEW YORK fans, Gabe felt he had to appease the minority of his fan base - Nigel turned a good situation out of a really dumb decision. I understand why Nigel got over with the character that he played, but the point still remains that he was turned on a bad decision to appease a few vocal morons in the New York fanbase. Nothing more.
And you're asking that the company try and pull off a tremendously big moment involving Tyler Black's FIRST big run at a title in the midst of an ugly crowd that is irrationally against him. You don't think him winning the title at this juncture would have hurt him, what with the crowd being as ugly as they were towards him?
Better to save that title switch for a better show, in front of a better crowd - one that isn't as spoiled.
As I've said before, Tyler has been losing steam for a long time with ROH fans. If you run a 25-30 minute match with all of the big spots condensed, you lose a ton of that heat with the NYC crowd being stuck there for a hour with terrible weather to drive home in. I'm just curious as too where ROH will finally payoff this fued. If they do it in Cali, they might get a better crowd and I will stand corrected. But they do run 8th Anv. in NYC; in which there will be a hostile crowd
Had i bought this and not seen it live, i probably would have thought that the majority of the crowd was full of assholes too. However, its easy to sit back at home and say that NY is spoiled and doesn't understand amazing wrestling anymore. Yea we're smarks but after sitting there for over 3 hours expecting an epic match between two long time rivals, and watching it come to an hour long draw...it wasn't too hard to get bored.
Being there live and hearing AND seeing the fans be bored just on the announcement of this match, I'd say they weren't even willing to give it a chance regardless of the outcome and how long it took to produce that.
These fans ARE spoiled rotten, and I've seen it first hand not just on this one occasion, this is a three year festering mold issue. These fans are simply spoiled.
I'd agree if everyone acted like assholes the entire show but I feel like it was just the main event that brought everyone down. Too many things factored together (the snow, the time, the draw, and of course the smarkiest of smarks) made everyone else who was really excited to be there become annoyed at the entire situation. Being spoiled may very well have been the issue but the environment couldn't have been far behind.
I'm not discounting all of those factors. I agree that the match, on this stacked a show, went too long, especially with it really coming down. But overall, this crowd wasn't even in the mood to see this match. People started leaving as the match was being announced, and some already looked disgruntled and ready to shit on Tyler Black.
This same crowd shit on a pretty good Aries match last time, what with the Twinkies chant drowning out the work Aries and Williams put in.
Tyler Black, who's had at least 20 title shots in the past two years (and lost all of them), doesn't go over and finally beat Aries on the biggest show of the year? After ROH put out that hype video that showed the seeds were planted in Final Battle 2008? Inexplicable.
Why would Pearce pull the trigger on Tyler here with the fans being absolute douche bags, shitting all over him? Why? So they could turn Black to appease these morons who'll just say "he's a horrible champion, he can't get over as a face - he's like John Cena"?
I'd rather they did it this way to try and rebuild Black's credibility with some of these pompous fans, then hurt him by giving him the strap during the midst of a fan revolt.
I just don't think that the terrible fans at that show should have derailed Black. Black was on a massive roll; he'd beaten Danielson, Nigel, and was THE guy to many people ("Next World Champ"). New York fans simply try to be like Philly fans, but the problem is they lack the respect that the Philly fans have for actual wrestling.
Philly fans are just blood thirsty savages, and this isn't just their wrestling fan base, it's the overall city mentality. I don't want to make it sound like New Yorkers are any better, but Philly has a bad rap across the board for being a horrible city thanks to the denizens occupying it.
Black still has time to gain back momentum, and this match only furthered his push in showing that he's becoming more focused and harder to keep down in these title bouts.
I'd expect Adam to have either wanted to pull the trigger at the Eighth Anniversary show, because that's a bigger show for the company's sake, or wait until Black gains back most of these fans he's lost, while giving them Roderick Strong as a strong contender to Aries, seeing the love affair the fans have for him now.
I also think the title change will be at the Anniversary show. Maybe they do something similar like they did with Nigel two years ago. Tyler can win the strap and either turn heel before the match or after.
But turning Tyler doesn't help him at all. You're building him up as a face, we're starting to see what kind of character he is under this face guise, he was way too popular to keep as a heel because of that - also, Nigel went through this as well and while that kind of worked out for him, giving him a better persona to work with, it did hurt him at first, and it came off as a "what in the hell are you doing" kind of swerve. It was like a Russo swerve.
I can see that being that case. I'm mixed on turning him heel but just throwing it out as an idea. I've heard three radio interviews with him in the last year and he just seems to have a real life heel personality and a disliking for the fans. He could easily stay face because he's very well liked outside of NYC. It will be interesting to see how or if they try to rebuild Black. The fans were really out of line and hurt the match.
yea when he turned hell, we had like no reaction, our mouths were just open, i dont know how it came off on the stream, but there live, the crowd and i were pretty quiet, just shocked and looking on as he left to the back
like u said, it was worth 15 bucks for 4 hours..... that crowd was ruthless tho..... at one point durin black/aries they chanted "dont come back" however, they were prolly kinda agitated because of the snowstorm up here in the northeast
Didn't stop them from being full of energy and life in the first half of the show. They just didn't care, and their over the top, high in the sky expectations didn't allow for them to enjoy a star they helped create to enjoy the push he rightfully deserves.
LOL, the Bill Clinton of the IWC. Might aswell say "i did not have any kind of relations with ROH".
Awesome PPV btw, told like 10 of my friends about the show and we watched it in the living room. I think we liked the Aries/Black match more cause we were really rooting for Black. And the Steen heel turn was crazy. Predictable at first then it was like a double swerve.
i was there live with blaze, mike, monoxide, moral, and rud3boy, it was my first ROH event, and i had a great fuckin time, i'll definitely be following ROH from now on
This was a typical roh show to me nothing special. The Aries/Black match shouldn't have been for 60 minutes I almost feel asleep during the match. The Wolves/Briscoe match ended prematurely imo. It wasn't that great of a ppv.

truthslayer this is y u r the best i was at this show live... and u rated it perfect man the main event honestly was terrible in person the whole crowd hated it and after the match tyler black got on the mic and said if you did not like this match ur not a real wrestling fan and everyone went nuts on him the main event killed my night
187ARS187 2 years ago

NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago 2
a role in the show.
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago 2
@NYG4LIFE123
I cannot agree more. The crowd can make and break an event sometimes. Look at WCW Starrcade 1996 and you will see a crowd that made an average PPV seem like a legendary one.
shuxion 2 years ago
I thought the production was shitty. The skyline view was horrible. Mind you, I've been conditioned to watching the flashiness of ROH on HDnet so I was disappointed. I wasn't expecting HD production value but I at least wanted a non-skyline camera view. Audio was bad. The crowd got burnt out which helped kill the action. It also lacked atmosphere. The show was also too long. ROH, they've got some brushing up to do. For their first "PPV", this was not a good showing.
kob456 2 years ago
I thought Aries/Black was a good hour long match since they didn't use stupid 5 minute rest holds (Michaels/Hart WM12).

this show reminded me of A ROh show i went to last Sept, it was glory by honor 7 i think, but just b/c that show was like an a half hours almost like this one, but i enjoyed almost every sec of this show.

That main event annoyed me, as Black should have won it, and a time limit draw wasn't exactly necessary. I also hope that Hero and Claudio win the ROH Tag titles. I really have grown bored of the Briscoes.

it was my first ppv ever (in my country it isn´t so easy to get them on tv and they are damn expensive so i normally watch a stream the next day) but well with this opportunity given to watch it live on the internet i bought it in my opinion beside the horrible audio they sometimes didn´t take the best camera angle but it wasn´t bad productions wise... match wise i was hoping for more violence/blood in the eddie kingston match (after the piledriver you saw him telling the ref that he is fine)
tabeasnight 2 years ago
thats what i meant with the camera angles... also i think we missed 2-3 little spots because of the angles... but hell of course they cant have prdoction values as high as wwe´s so im fine with that.. because of the different time zones it was 5:30am while the main event was running and i felt asleep -.- anyway to sum it up I DO NOT REGRET BUYING IT and it was the perfect possibility to show the major promotions that ROH has a worldwide fan community I freaking loved this internet ppv idea

That's why I'm so shocked; an ROH mark gave an ROH show a 7.0.
dstebbin 2 years ago
I was going to order it but completely lost track of time. I watched a replay stream and it was an ok show. 7.0 is a very fair rating. I hated the Main Event if I paid for it I would have been mad. The match was being built up as a feud ender and we get a bull shit finish. ROH needs to stop pushing Black or leave him off the roster for 6 months before he gets more heat.
Kuratras 2 years ago
I personally think it will come off better on dvd. fixing the stream and audio isues.
I liked the main event quite a bit but the asshole crowd hurt it.
And according to the message board Aries retaining is what they wanted so why be so pissed?
Go back to Fight of the Century between Joe and Danielson, like Aries Bryan stalled during alot of the match but it was praised.
ROHTNA1991 2 years ago
I got lucky. during the second half, I could hear the crowd at all. I only got to hear Sweeny and Dave. Watch it with on mute. It's a four and a half star match.
TraciPeteyforlife 2 years ago
thank you truthslayer. unlike a lot of other people reviewing this, you did a fine job of taking the good and the bad into account without being blindly praising of the show or just flat out shitting all over it. That 7.0 is deserved for terrible audio, an atrocious booking job on the main event, and for the most part, underdelivering on the other money matches on that show (which even includes Bucks and Steenerico, although it was damn close to meeting my high expectations).
flacohombre 2 years ago

i agree roh fans a spoiled brats who get a thrill when shouting at wrestlers fucking cunt cant hold a candle to the old ecw cult
clownhe01 2 years ago
listen...you have the biggest show of the year available to the entire world. This is the first time I've ever paid money to see an ROH show, as I imagine it is for other people who don't have the luxury of seeing shows live and can't get into shows 3 months after the fact. To give your fans a time limit draw after building Tyler Black up for an entire year at your biggest show in a long time (not just this year) is unacceptable.
flacohombre 2 years ago
So you think giving the face the title, despite him getting a mixed reaction from a crowd that was ready to shit all over him the second his name was announced is more acceptable? Having both your major titles change hands on the same night, over to face champions is more acceptable? Especially if the main title doesn't have any readily available heel contenders (what with Claudio and Hero teaming back up, and Kenny King still being too fresh to the main event scene)?
moralvirus 2 years ago
OK, then let Aries WIN the match. Why on God's green earth do we have to let this feud continue? If putting the belt on Black is not viable now, will it be in 4 months when people will care even less about him? Maybe Aries will drop the belt at Supercard or Anniversary to Tyler with heels galore waiting for him. But until then, ROH is going to have a stale product
flacohombre 2 years ago
A FEW fans in the New York area have turned on Black. His reception, much like Nigel's when he was still a new champion, is still strong as a face persona outside of the New York area. The idea that "no one will care" is wrong because of the perception of a few bad apples in New York lead you to believe that the entire base of ROH fans are like this?
And you don't put the heel over when the payoff down the road is to sell Black as Aries' greatest adversary to his title.
moralvirus 2 years ago
Tyler Black has not shown me any reason to get behind as a face, or boo him as a heel. Nigel got over as a heel because he had the promo skill to capitialize off of the brutal NYC fanbase; Tyler isn't able to do that. As for a later payoff, THIS was supposed to be the payoff. Streamed live on the internet, a year after Aries turned heel by waffling Tyler in the head with a chair; this was it. And I'm a casual ROH fan, and they wasted their final chance for me get behind him.
flacohombre 2 years ago
Take No Prisoners 2008 was his breakout match in ROH, and he's lived off of that momentum in his current run to the main event scene. Fans were largely behind him because he played a great sympathetic face in the ring against Nigel's heel persona, and nothing has changed barring who he's chasing for the title now. The fans turning on him is illogical, much like when they turned on Nigel in the first place.
moralvirus 2 years ago
Tyler's momentum started dying after Injustice when he had his first "time limit draw" with Nigel. That would've been a fantastic time to put the belt on him, albeit it's a much clearer decision in retrospect due to Nigel's injury and Lynn's lackluster title reign. After that and Manhattan Mayhem fans started turning on him.
flacohombre 2 years ago 2
As for Nigel, he was tremendously over as a face, especially into his title run, but because of a few NEW YORK fans, Gabe felt he had to appease the minority of his fan base - Nigel turned a good situation out of a really dumb decision. I understand why Nigel got over with the character that he played, but the point still remains that he was turned on a bad decision to appease a few vocal morons in the New York fanbase. Nothing more.
moralvirus 2 years ago
Well, the way I see it, Nigel was over as a heel everywhere ROH ran. I'd take that over being over only in the more casual crowds.
flacohombre 2 years ago
And you're asking that the company try and pull off a tremendously big moment involving Tyler Black's FIRST big run at a title in the midst of an ugly crowd that is irrationally against him. You don't think him winning the title at this juncture would have hurt him, what with the crowd being as ugly as they were towards him?
Better to save that title switch for a better show, in front of a better crowd - one that isn't as spoiled.
moralvirus 2 years ago
As I've said before, Tyler has been losing steam for a long time with ROH fans. If you run a 25-30 minute match with all of the big spots condensed, you lose a ton of that heat with the NYC crowd being stuck there for a hour with terrible weather to drive home in. I'm just curious as too where ROH will finally payoff this fued. If they do it in Cali, they might get a better crowd and I will stand corrected. But they do run 8th Anv. in NYC; in which there will be a hostile crowd
flacohombre 2 years ago
draws are gay. they dont add anything to any story and giong an hour just for the sake of doing it is poor booking in my opinion.

CheVera89 2 years ago
Had i bought this and not seen it live, i probably would have thought that the majority of the crowd was full of assholes too. However, its easy to sit back at home and say that NY is spoiled and doesn't understand amazing wrestling anymore. Yea we're smarks but after sitting there for over 3 hours expecting an epic match between two long time rivals, and watching it come to an hour long draw...it wasn't too hard to get bored.
CheVera89 2 years ago
Being there live and hearing AND seeing the fans be bored just on the announcement of this match, I'd say they weren't even willing to give it a chance regardless of the outcome and how long it took to produce that.
These fans ARE spoiled rotten, and I've seen it first hand not just on this one occasion, this is a three year festering mold issue. These fans are simply spoiled.
moralvirus 2 years ago
I'd agree if everyone acted like assholes the entire show but I feel like it was just the main event that brought everyone down. Too many things factored together (the snow, the time, the draw, and of course the smarkiest of smarks) made everyone else who was really excited to be there become annoyed at the entire situation. Being spoiled may very well have been the issue but the environment couldn't have been far behind.
CheVera89 2 years ago
roh fans are spoiled faggots fucking smarks like them dont respect wrestling i bet final battle drew shit buyrates 300 maybe shitty roh bots
clownhe01 2 years ago
tna doesnt do so well with buy rates either, kind of hypocritical
why2beyou 2 years ago
I'm not discounting all of those factors. I agree that the match, on this stacked a show, went too long, especially with it really coming down. But overall, this crowd wasn't even in the mood to see this match. People started leaving as the match was being announced, and some already looked disgruntled and ready to shit on Tyler Black.
This same crowd shit on a pretty good Aries match last time, what with the Twinkies chant drowning out the work Aries and Williams put in.
moralvirus 2 years ago
Tyler Black, who's had at least 20 title shots in the past two years (and lost all of them), doesn't go over and finally beat Aries on the biggest show of the year? After ROH put out that hype video that showed the seeds were planted in Final Battle 2008? Inexplicable.
TheKSE1 2 years ago 2
@TheKSE1 ROH didn't make that video ThatWrestlingShow did.
ROHTNA1991 2 years ago
Why would Pearce pull the trigger on Tyler here with the fans being absolute douche bags, shitting all over him? Why? So they could turn Black to appease these morons who'll just say "he's a horrible champion, he can't get over as a face - he's like John Cena"?
I'd rather they did it this way to try and rebuild Black's credibility with some of these pompous fans, then hurt him by giving him the strap during the midst of a fan revolt.
moralvirus 2 years ago
I just don't think that the terrible fans at that show should have derailed Black. Black was on a massive roll; he'd beaten Danielson, Nigel, and was THE guy to many people ("Next World Champ"). New York fans simply try to be like Philly fans, but the problem is they lack the respect that the Philly fans have for actual wrestling.
TheKSE1 2 years ago
Philly fans are just blood thirsty savages, and this isn't just their wrestling fan base, it's the overall city mentality. I don't want to make it sound like New Yorkers are any better, but Philly has a bad rap across the board for being a horrible city thanks to the denizens occupying it.
Black still has time to gain back momentum, and this match only furthered his push in showing that he's becoming more focused and harder to keep down in these title bouts.
moralvirus 2 years ago
I'd expect Adam to have either wanted to pull the trigger at the Eighth Anniversary show, because that's a bigger show for the company's sake, or wait until Black gains back most of these fans he's lost, while giving them Roderick Strong as a strong contender to Aries, seeing the love affair the fans have for him now.
moralvirus 2 years ago
I also think the title change will be at the Anniversary show. Maybe they do something similar like they did with Nigel two years ago. Tyler can win the strap and either turn heel before the match or after.
nextbigthing 2 years ago
But turning Tyler doesn't help him at all. You're building him up as a face, we're starting to see what kind of character he is under this face guise, he was way too popular to keep as a heel because of that - also, Nigel went through this as well and while that kind of worked out for him, giving him a better persona to work with, it did hurt him at first, and it came off as a "what in the hell are you doing" kind of swerve. It was like a Russo swerve.
moralvirus 2 years ago
I can see that being that case. I'm mixed on turning him heel but just throwing it out as an idea. I've heard three radio interviews with him in the last year and he just seems to have a real life heel personality and a disliking for the fans. He could easily stay face because he's very well liked outside of NYC. It will be interesting to see how or if they try to rebuild Black. The fans were really out of line and hurt the match.

Didn't stop them from being full of energy and life in the first half of the show. They just didn't care, and their over the top, high in the sky expectations didn't allow for them to enjoy a star they helped create to enjoy the push he rightfully deserves.
