ok the computer was setting you up to do the queens gambit (its a chess starter line) the idea of this is to capture better peaces and get you ahead so even though you thought that it was stupid to do that hint it sets you up to do better and you captured there queen dude that's totally worth losing two pawns

PS are you playing on easy because the computer was not playing well at all

@fbmarz It was the "Easy" setting, and I suppose it's there for starters, so that they can learn the very basics and don't abandon in the end because of frustration.
