  • I know a guy named Waldo and hes a welder. Hes been doing this for fifty years. He welds things.

  • more and more guys in alberta are using millers same goes for the shops

  • @katrinavontramp Now that''s good to hear Katrina. Thanks for letting us know.

  • @nielsmiller im wanting to use a mig to use aluminum and spend not more than 2000 any advice on what model to get? i was looking at the 211 auto set.....seems practical for me to use since ill primarily be making aluminum showboxes and show equipment

  • nice tips, too professional!

  • Got two millers, two lincolns and a hobart - I usually use the solar (century) mig with lead acid cells (20v nom.) and a homade (induction vibrator made out of m.surplus triplepole doublethrow platinumcontact1950s relay)for approx 12khz 10% rp sqanduarewave... .035 tip .030 harris 5356... and helium. Cheap and effective!

  • with a spool gun the wire swirls as it comes out which doesnt realy matter most of the time

  • i like the xr system better.8 also like how miller uses tghe lincoln cobra and renames it the python ....

  • Anyone who actually welded professionally at a professional fabrication assembly shop, used monster sized Millers. Lincolns are for repairing your parents railing, rewelding that plow that keeps breaking and spot welds in the driveway and that's about it.

  • skool is kool. LOL

  • I think Millers are like... play-time welders, Lincolns are the real deal. Millers are something to learn on.

  • @XoCoPeNHaGeNoX I dont think so, Millers are the |Real deal than Lincoln

  • @XoCoPeNHaGeNoX I think most professionals that know what they are doing will disagree with you,

  • @zpgJiggleBilly I see that you're 16, perhaps really good at welding, perhaps having $43 an hour job offers. But both Lincoln and Miller are fine pieces of equipment. Miller is more expensive by far, and they stand behind their product very well. Lincoln might sell more machines because they have their stuff in Home Depot and have larger distribution warehouses. But Miller builds their machines very well to last a lifetime I believe. At my job our shop has had a miller Mig for about 35 yrs.

  • @Delticola How did you come to the conclusion that I am 16? Also having both a miller and a Lincoln, I can tell you that at least half the lincolns I have used suffer from very slight but noticeable amperage fluctuations while welding, causing reduced penetration and over all poorer quality of work. However when I just want to get two pieces of metal welded together just to weld them together I will go with the lincoln, when I am working on a major project I will use miller every time.

  • @Delticola No, it wasn't you that was 16, it was someone else from the other post below. I'm confused now, I think I ment to respond to that 16 year old kid. Or maybe I confused your comments with his. Either way. We agree on Miller. Really nice stuff. I've got the 212 Millermatic and the 180 diversion in my home garage. Still learning the Tig however. Something almost funny to say, the Harbor Freight Tig Welder, the 230 Amp blue box, is a fantastic DC TIG.

  • wow that first weld was shit!

  • one thing it failed to mention was heat transfer. that is the biggest issue we have at work cause we do a lot of line pipe and steel work so we get in blow and go mode. it really works if you use a step pattern and if you start to see a pores in your puddle stop and let it cool. if you get to hot your peace will crack as soon as you stop welding. also the smaller the puddle the better. and if you got a lot of welding start from one end then go to opposite corner and start meet in the middle

  • i never liked a spool gun and the way the wire swirls oul.the xr gun or the python made by lincoln/cobramatic is my fav

  • One thing you missed is that you use a larger contact tip than the size wire used to account for expansion, i.e use 0.035 tip for 0.030 wire. This is only for aluminum.

  • What is a solderer???????

  • I bought a Miller Spool gun about 14 years ago for about $1,000.oo and have hardly used it yet. I have used it a little with my Millermatic 250MP. I appreciate the tips, I intend on watching this a few more times in the future.

  • i'm the best solderer in norh america....pffft.

  • Can I used an aluminium welder to weld steel?

  • obviously not a good welder.. im 15 and i do better welds than that.. go in a circular or "u" shaped motion

  • @vRaC3CaRv

you dont use circle or u's in aluminum welding. you use a spray arc. you want to use a step if you ocilate

  • @godsmack8807 my welding teacher told me you just use a faster motion..

  • @vRaC3CaRv the problem with a faster motion somtimes you will fail to tie in your sides i'm not saying he is wrong but this is what works best for me. you just have to find whats best for you.

  • You can make X-ray welds with the welder in video. Have been doing it for almost 25 years.Secret to Alum mig welding is clean, clean and clean some more and no air moving at all.

  • @trashtrout and lots of heat....

  • please take a look at FroniusWelding s chanel. And CMT tecnology.!!! Amazing.. Miller, Lincoln, Esab and Kemppi succs so bad!!

  • Very good

  • (MIG Aluminum Welding) fail....any welder knows u cant mig weld aluminum ur weld will never stick im 19 years old been welding for 6 years and i know that

  • @bigslickak90 you can mig weld aluminum stipid i go to school for welding dumb ass

  • @ozzy1evil lol

  • @bigslickak90 lol @ u

  • @bigslickak90 your an idiot

  • @staleyhoonify hey give me a break i messed up on my wording i ment to say unless you do it right and have the right equment it will never stick

  • @bigslickak90

I would advise you to give up the trade because you are, an idiot.......been welding aluminun mig for over ten years.....it does..."stick"

  • @staleyhoonify you'ed advise me to give up the trade huh? i advise you to come weld with me i do underwater welding in the marine corps i know much more about welding then you give me credit for and plus i messed up on the wording of my last comment i ment to say that if its dont the wrong way it wont stick

  • Anyone who wants to be a welder..LEARN HOW TO READ A PRINT! If not you'll be a mig and jig guy that tops out at $13 an hour. And it will be hot/dirty/shitty work. I can teach a monkey how to weld and I've only been able to teach a handfull of people how to be welders. You must also be able to fix your f#ck ups because you will f$ck up. Make math your best friend 20 yrs from now you'll understand why.

  • i just welded aluminum to metal with a flux core welder

  • can't wait for next semester to start WELDING!

  • I've heard that aluminium welders are the 1337. Is that true ?

  • any body know if instead of using argon for aluminum could you just brush some flux on what ever your going weld sort of like inner shielding steel wire but with aluminim?

  • @guitar1094 No.. they have not yet invented flux core wire for aluminum.

If you are wanting to go that route and skip using a shielding gas, then you will have to purchase an arc welder and some aluminum rods.

  • what about the mig wire that has teh shielding gas in it

  • TIG ALL THE WAY MUCH BETTER STRONGER AND NEATER MIG ALLY = SHIT TIG ALLY = A BIG STIFFY

  • Wow I didnt think you could mig weld aluminium. Looks alot easier than tig

  • I can weld better than that my old arc welder mate you probably have way more expierience than me but that means that you should be able to weld good those are not good welds sorry its just my 2 cents

  • I would be ashamed if my aluminum welds were so horrible...I get better results with a simple oxy-acetilen torch, good flux like te UTP 4 and 5356 on 6063 on 6061 aluminum. Out of fashion, obsolete maybe, but the ocy-aceti torch is the simplest way to weld and braze aluminum. Needs a bit of training.

Fabfabber, you're right; preheating with a common propane torch is the best way. On small pieces a hot air gun does the job.

  • The inconsistent feed rate shows from the start in the first weld. Push-pull with u groove rollers are so much better.

  • Not really necessary to use a spool gun. You can get by with some slight modifications to a normal MIG lead.

1)Use teflon guides and a teflon liner. 2) Use smooth double U-groove rollers. (Rollers meant for steel are usually single V-groove ) 3) Use the lowest amount of feed tension possible. 4)keep the liner and tip clean. replace tips often 5)keep the tip recessed 1/8" inside the nozzle-this protects if from heat, spatter, and fouling. 6) use US made wire & tips which have better tolerances

  • I weld aluminum every day using push/pull Miller machines. those spool guns are inconsistent, suck in tight spaces and run out of wire quick

  • How do you manage to stop the camera from being "blinded" by the brightness of the arc and just showing a completely white picture? Did you use a special filter or did you put a welding mask in front of it?

  • Thos were not very good welds.

  • Very informative. Thanks

  • Offshore welders earn $2,775.00 per 84 hr. work week. If you would like to weld offshore, send me your email address. If you would like to go offshore as a roustabout, or galley hand, or welder's helper, email me.

  • @moseseseseses mig weld for over 10 yrs mild steel ,aluminum, stainless, high hard , and armor plating , looking for something new jwileyo9@yahoo.com

  • Comment removed

  • some of the worst ally welds ive seen

  • @GarthWalquist why not say aluminum jack ass?

  • @ojsdaddy Because I didnt

  • jeez after reading all these comments i might just try to weld my lungs shut

  • boyyy, lok at all that new sht he's using

  • i want to hit some one.

  • i think i just became dumber

  • the guy cant weld himself, ive welded hungover better.

  • @birch1607 but are you a 'certified' hung over welder

  • i wanna weld when i get out of skool

  • @xECHOx123 but when you get a job, depending on what your doing, welding is a small part of the job unless your gonna be a robot and stand for long periods of time, doing the same thing over and over again but good luck in your endeavers anyways

  • @xECHOx123 yo get a degree son

  • You better know how to read prints, have youre own tool box, AWS G6 and be a fabricator or else You wont probally last long on a job!!

  • @xECHOx123 Why wait

Start now. The world is a greater place when you can weld.

  • @24preacherboy I'm making a welder and I'm not out of school yet. Indeed, welding expands your horizons and posibilities.

  • @xECHOx123 school is the best place to weld. If you go to community college and take a welding class you can just pay for the class, and then you get the opportunity to weld probably every day using the schools materials and facilities. I am so glad I went to auto body repair class, I go to fuck off with all those free materials using free tools. We had high quality paint, tools, paint booth, welders, frame machines, and whatever else. Had to be some of the best days of my life, learned a lot!

  • @therotaryrocket I agree

  • @xECHOx123 at our school we can weld in gr.9

  • @xECHOx123 i am, ive got an apprentiship as a fabricational welder doing excavation builder, and im on £250 a week, its great :)

  • @xRaw381 yeah i working on it im in auto class it will help me for apprentiship for layying

  • @xECHOx123 No mate you realy don't. It's not that good a trade to get in to.

  • @TheMaidenengland Not a good trade? I'm 16 years old and I can do MIG, TIG, Stick, Torch, and Shielded Arc. I go to a vo-tech for it, I already have places begging me to work for them. & the place that is offering me is where my dad used to work, starting off at 43 bucks an hour, that's DAMN good money.

  • @xECHOx123 same and im only 11

  • @xECHOx123

  • Awesome Guitar!

  • I saw a fuel tank fabbed from aluminum. Nicest welds on aluminum I've ever seen. I asked the guy how he did it and he said with a tig. You can't get a weld like that with a mig. He never used a mig for aluminum, only a tig because of it's adjustable duty cycle plus he had perfect control over the filler material being fed in. Plus he could use the filler material to help push the puddle around if he needed to. If I could weld a bead like his just once I would die happy.

  • I build ambulances. All I do is weld on aluminum. 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch aluminum. I think it's easy. You do have to use the right speed because it cannot take a lot of heat.

  • Ha, I can do an Ok job with Shielded Metal Arc welding, but when it comes to TIG or MIG forget it. I suck. I do admire those that have the technique down to an art; then again, I don't weld for a living, I just use it when I need it here and there.

So, to all you that can lay a weld like a bead of caulk, I salute you. It is a science that so many think is easy, but so few can do correctly.

  • A Pyton gun is a great choice in my opinion..

  • Have you guys ever heard of techno weld. How does that stuff compare to mig welding. Any insight would be a great help.

  • It's not welding. I don't recommend it for critical structural joints. It's essentially aluminum brazing.

Depending on the application, bonding may be better suited as heat warpage is a non-issue. (Though the bonding agent generally doesn't transfer heat as well and will give long before the aluminum does.)

The thing to remember with bonding and brazing is that they are surface joints. A real weld penetrates into the base metal.

    Feel free to message questions.

  • Hey nacho

I couldn't have said it better. I've worked with a bunch of wannabe's in the past who don't give a hoot about the work they put out. All they cared about was getting a paycheck. And the sad thing about those kind of "welders" is when you try to show and teach them the benefits of taking pride in their work, they look at you like, "man, get the f__k outta my face."

  • welding skills are aquired over time(years) is more than a pride to be called a good welder, not a weekend welder, a welder, i have been welding for almost 20 years now, and let me tell you there is a lot to learn specially in aluminum and exotic metals like titanium and rodium, one can be certified on 20 different procesess, but the real certification comes from yourself, if you think you are good show it with pride, don´t talk just show it.

  • I agree some of the best welders out there will tell you allday there not that good and those are the ones you want to be friends with.. there the best

  • good tips for beginers like you guys

  • ugh i fucking hate aluminum..no heat lines..to soft..need a dam spool gun fer wire basically if u want a nice job..sides steel is stronger big deal its heavier and rusts its just better

  • ya because its an aluminum wire not a standerd coper wire

  • I've been welding aluminum for years and prefer it WAY more than steel. Yeah, steel is more forgiving, but it's nice to be able to pick up a 20 ft joint of 3X3X1/4 by yourself and cut it with a chop saw.

  • How come I don't see anyone posting themselves welding with aluminum rods? Not mig, but rods. I would have to post one someday, and show you all what a real welding skill is about. LOL

  • i dont weld aluminum all that much but if he were welding steel those welds wouldnt have held shit up. he really needs to learn how to weld.

  • Welding carbon steel is easy, try welding aluminum pieces together with aluminum arc rods, its a nightmare. lol You have to use DC welder. Too much current and that stuff splatters all over the place.

  • i welded in shop today for the first time on a scrap piece of steal and my teacher said it was really really good. ;)

  • fuck you bitch you prolly cant even fucken weld you dirty motherfucken firecrotch.

  • pretty sure i can

  • i dont give a flying fuck, keep your shit ass comments to yourself and stop being a fucken prick. i take a metals class at school and my teacher told me i was good at it. why the fuck in the world do you think you have any opinion on that? you probably weld with your fucken toothbrush bitch.

  • LOL ! he said 6 words LOL

  • GMAW is just to easy

  • For Aluminum, the teach us in Welding to use Argon or Helium.

  • somebody needs to show this guy how to weld. Looks like there's no tie-in on the bottom side of the bead. I'm glad he doesn't work at my shop !!

  • thought u were just cocky cunt but its true lmao

  • god them welds suck

  • I like the push/pull gun myself but the spool guns arent too bad

  • I used straight Helium with better results, flatter beads and deeper penetrations with 3038 aluminum.

  • can u use straight helium or is it a mix with argon

  • it has to be mixed with argon. only reason to use helium is to get a hotter weld puddle.

  • I'm a cheap bastard, I use straight Argon and if the aluminum is pretty thick for complete penetration weld, I heat the aluminum with acetylene soot then burn it off with a neutral flame. Helium is expensive and yes it could be used with argon, but at a higher CFH. I welded with both with straight He and Ar and I liked the straight Helium but acetylene trick makes Ar the same as with He.

  • @Cuyoherna

During the process of getting certified, we discovered the best gas to use to pre-heat aluminum is propane cuz it does not leave the black soot which contaminates the metal. Also, the ideal temp to start welding the thicker alumnum is between 200-250 degrees F.

  • Nice Spool Gun

  • To weld aluminium with MIG Pulsed or dual pulsed is easy...

  • cool video

  • very helpful video. Thanx.

  • good vid very helpfull

  • cool stuff
