You saved my hair from a shitload of damage. WHat if your hair is already bleached once with a 40 volume? Mine was and then i want to get it to a platinum blonde like yours but i want to make my hair recover first so it doesnt get like DEAD. Any tips? i bleached it in the beginning of december. and i want to get a possible white blonde so i can dye my hair a crazy colour. Can this still apply or should i use a hair stripper and skip the bleaching?
hey girl my hair is now like a really light peach color and some parts are even lighter, do you think i should bleach again or just keep toning?? ooh yeah and I FREAKING LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!
did your hair ever get strechy after the bleachings? I bleached twice and it's not as light as I wanted, still a bit yellow, but feels strechy when wet, and I'm afraid to bleach again...
@ccpedraza07 hi, dont bleach again my advise to you is to keep conditiong your hair or otherwise you wont be able to brush your hair at all!...i had this experience and believe me you need some time to get to platinum specially if you have long hair. this girl have short hair and hair hair is healthy when is close to the roots but if your hair is long you might end up like her hair. so please dont ruin your hair just let it breath a little bit and then try again. :)
hi thnks alot of these helpful video i have question my hair is black/brown and i want to dye it with very light brown nt blond coz i have dark skin and the blond will nt suit me .. can i dye it after bleaching it for one time only? even if its become orange n some place ? thanks again
@CodyEdwardSM They have a new product by john frieda called 3 day straight, you can get it at walmart, walgreens, cvs etc. Its cheap and helps your hair stay straight for days after straightening it once. When you do straighten your hair, you should get a flat iron heat protection spray - the brand CHI is good, but others will work. When you wash it, make sure to deep condition it once a week. I style my hair a lot and it looks fine!
@CodyEdwardSM I'd say the process took me about 2 months. Within the first month I had my hair blonde, but to get it to that last white step I took it slow, conditioned the heck out of it, let it recover and then went for the last steps. It isn't easy on your hair, but if you do it RIGHT and replenish it with keratin protein treatments and oils, you'll be fine! :)
@Whompingwillow22 this whole video is my tip for that :) it was dark, i bleached it to platinum in 10 steps using items from the beauty supply store, it probably cost me about 40 bucks, if that. Good luck!
Please tell me you had *some* sign of damage after this triumphant feat. This tutorial is absolutely wonderful and informative, but I can't help but feel covetous when I see a lovely pristine white as the result. I personally am on my third bleaching after waiting two weeks from my second, and I have a nice helping of breakage at the tips.
What is your secret? Did I just not wait long enough? I think I'll shoot for a good month until next time. Again, excellent work.
@weasalw True, I should update with an annotation for that detail! They always discontinue the good stuff... I now use MANIC PANIC VIRGIN SNOW, it comes in the containers just like the manic panic hair dye, and its a very light purple. Its NOT dye though, it's a snow white toner. You do not have to add developer to it, and it's good for your hair. You can get it at beauty supply stores or hot topic. If not that, then use Wella White Lady toner by the Wella brand. Similar to Clairol. :)
@weasalw I only bleach my roots once a month, sometimes i get more lazy and do them every 5-6 weeks! I do have dark roots in some videos, but I try to disguise them with the way I style my hair. The bangs help because it makes my hair look blonde in the front even if there's roots. My hair is a dark blonde naturally but the roots look super dark when my hair is light. There are lots of tricks to disguise roots if you're not able to keep up on them :D
Oh and maybe another good tip for aspiring blondes: if it has been a while since you dyed your hair a dark colour, your roots will lighten up a lot faster. So if you need to bleach multiple times to get to a light yellow colour, focus more on the ends of your hair - not the roots. :)
You are incredibly lucky though; I've beeb trying to get just two tiny highlights in my hair (temple) to go from black to blonde, and have had to strip it twice to get the bulk of the old dye out, have bleached it twice so far.. And still too orange to tone. Mine looked a lot different after the first stripping too.. a very dark red - and I used a high brand product. Not every black box dye is as easy to get out in my experience. Also.. please dont use peroxide with your toners - use a develope
@MissSovietBones yes it has blues in it that counterract the reds and lift them so that your hair does not look brassy! sometimes it takes a few times to work
@razzamatazzy That's a lot for this answer :) I've heard from way 2 many self proclaimed hair stylists that toners cannot lift hair. My hair currently is very ash like level 10; it is just before that level 11 stark platinum that I want. I'll wait 1week and TONE it again instead of attempting 2 bleach it when I just want barely a shade of lift. Or perhaps I can try mixing some 30 developer with my shampoo? Did you ever hear of this method? Apparently there's a split consensus about that as well.
@MissSovietBones everyones hair is different so i dont want to provide wrong information, but with my hair i used that purple toning shampoo, toned a lot, and no i didnt use developer..although that sounds like it would work? and that's funny they said that...cause toner is MADE for lifting hair.lol! then again i do not know the exact yellow you have. if it is sort of brassy, toner should definitely work
@MissSovietBones I am a professional hair colorist and have been doing hair for 14 years...Toner is NOT made to lift hair. Toners are normally mixed with an activator which does not contain peroxide, or has a very low level of peroxide. Toners are meant to add pigment to bleached out hair and fight yellow/ brassiness. If you are using a "toner" with a high level of peroxide (20, 30, or 40 volume), than you are not toning your hair, you are dying it/ damaging it further. Toner adds health to hair
@fablehottie Bleaching is permanent. If you use manic panic, when it fades it'll go a faded colour of the colour you use; e.g you use red dye, it'll eventually fade to a orange/yellow. if you use a blue, it'll go a green colour.
i gave up about 6 months ago, and now i'm training as a stylist i'm progressively going blonde. i ask to get foils from my boss every week and she keeps telling me i need to wait. I'm so impatient and i'm jealous of your results! haha
lol thats so funny i also have a skunk stripe with black hair and i want my whole head platinum blonde now......cool video i finally found one that makes sense and shows results. thanks...now off to my bleaching ;)
love the vid i learned alot actually my only question is the measurements that you used. i still cant believed this was a good vid and you didnt even show us like dying ur hair and talking at the same time. forget wat everyone else say if u feel ur hair isnt damaged its not its ur hair not theirs sweetie
i LOVE your end result and it looks AMAZING on you, and i really wanna achieve a similar look for me. it doesnt have to be WHITE, but a really light/platimum blonde is ok. right now my hair is only a light brown/really dark blonde type after i dyed it. do i need to strip the color first? cuz the salon lady said stripping the color and then bleaching would ruin my hair, and that my hair was already light enough. but its not my natural color, so idk; THNX!
Do you know what you should do when you have red/yellow orange tones, use an ash blonde box colour, and it will look grey first fewwashes, i went from jet black to platnim in 1 day, and my hair was damaged ofc but I left conditioner treatment in over night =]
i see that you said, use the toner with same developer you used with you bleach, i have a 40 vol developer, would you recamend a 30 vol instead like you used, or is 40 vol fine for bleaching and toning?
i see that you said, use the toner with same developer you used with you bleach, i have a 40 vol developer, would you recamend a 30 vol isntead like you used, or is 40 vol fine for bleaching and toning?

@LittleMissMetal100 40 is fine to do your hair, just only use it the once tho, I just used box dyes, and they were the same same 'SmartBeauty' brand is amazing at getting your hair to blonde then use the lightest ash blonde you can get to get rid of red/orange/yellow tones
i'm sick and tired of hairdresser telling us you can't do it you can't do that. just because they can cut hair doesn't mean your a good hair dresser. people whos not a hairdressers can have more knowledge than most of hairdressers, where ive seen or know so many people with beautiful hair that you can achieve at home. i love your hair and i change my hair colour every six months and i really don't care if i m damaging my hair, ppl damaging their hair to sudden extended anyway.
I followed your instructions and got my hair a very light platinum, almost white but not quite. I have toned it with the same toner you used 2x now but only for 15 minutes or so. I was afraid it would turn violet or greyish if I left it on longer. The first time I toned, I used 20vol CLEAR toner (accidently) and the 2nd time I used a 40vol CREME toner. Im wondering if I need to leave it on longer to get it completely white? Also, what volume should I use?
Awesome. Thanks. I got to the "straw yellow" stage and didn't know how to tone the rest of the color out. I've been screwing around with hair (usually going darker) since high school... I'll be 45 this summer!
Never be "normal." The world has too much of it already :)
nd to tone with a toner that you need to use a ammonia peroxide is just as bad for your hair as bleaching coloring your hair. as for shampoo and conditioner try "Alterna" Caviar blonde and they have nice treatments, I am a platinum blonde and i have be for 14ys now and my hair is really nice :) well to all who feels the need to do it @ home I wish the best for your hair :) and good luck. (btw this comment is not intended to attack anyone just saying my opinion) JennEver
Hands-down, the best treatment for damaged hair is Aphogee Two-Step treatment. Lots of reviews on here for it! I have used it and does what is says it does: stops breakage and restores the shine and softness.
THANKYOU FOR THIS TUTORIAL! My hair is thick ass asian hair that had permanent dark brown dye in it and I took the flying leap and decided to follow your tutorial and bleach my hair myself and it came out looking fabulous. You're amazing. <3
I have a few tips for people who cannot find/ afford the hair treatments. Instead of that, a great way to get your hair back in shape is to warm up some vegetable oil (Or olive oil). Make sure it isn't TOO hot, so test it on the back of your hand first. Once you got it hot enough, put it in your hair.
Once you have put it in your hair, take a towel and dampen it with warm water. Then wrap it around your hair/head and leave it there for an hour or two/until the towel has cooled down.
For anyone who is going to use the color zap. if you are going to do your whole head you should buy at least 2 because one bottle is not alot. also dont put it to close to your scalp it itches worse than bleach. ive used it but it does work.
so I want my hair dark or medium blonde, but DEFINITELY not as blonde as yours! so if I bleach it once and it turns out somewhat orange can I just dye it blonde and will it turn out dark/medium blonde, what do u think?
right now my hair is dyed dark brown with highlighted tips :)
I'd like to thank you for this tut. I was a natural blond but died black from a box, took your tips, used the color sap, bleached once with a bleach out kit from Sally's then toned with the same toner you suggested. I am now conditioning and resting my hair for a week before I tone one more time. Also using the Shampoo and conditioner (shimmer lights). Hair is just slightly yellow.
This is the best tut i have found to help bring box black to platinum. i started the process but forgot to strip my hair. I have bleached it twice so far and am in the resting phase. It is still an orange/ginger at the ends but a yellow on the shaft/ roots. How many more bleachings do u think it will take or should I spot bleach ? thank you for making this vid. It has helped ALOT.
Wow! I've been looking @ tutorials all day so that I can bleach my 15yo daughter's hair and this has def. been the most informative, BY FAR!!! Thank you so much! U also got me thinking that we should record or at least take pix throughout the whole process...
omg love the outcome. ur tutorial is quite helpful, im at the stage of second bleaching now. i might have to go for a third bleaching though considering my pitch black asian hair.
try the blue based toners for orange i can't just use purple with my previous black hair dye underneath i get red/orange tones & also a lot of red with color removers :) bleaching right now as a matter of fact...
After doing research on the internet and speaking to hairdressers, I've come to the conclusion that in my country, "colour strip" and "bleach" is the exact same thing with different names on the box.
Mm. Troublesome.
I only just dyed my hair dark brown, so I'll wait a month or two before bleaching. Let's hope it won't fall off! :)
Hey,your hair wont fall off. im naturally dark brown, but about 4 months ago i dyed my hair black, then about 4 weeks later i bleached it,it went orangy, the i used a toner which lifted most of the orange tones out. The i used an ash blonde colour which took out the rest of the orange. Then i did another bleaching after conditioning my hair (alot of times) Now its a lovely light blonde :)
i love your hair ... your right; i died my hair black and i regretted it about a month later but it took FOREVER to get out!! i jus found out that u can also use hydrogen peroxide to lighten it ; if u use it everyday it will slowly turn lighter nd lighter...
How long did you leave on the toner? I know it says 15 min but I'm thinking I should leave it on longer. I have the clairol creme toner in extra light platinum blonde.
hey, basicly i used to have jet black hair, which i regret so much, because now ive had to slowly lighten it over and over, ive dyed it blonde about 6-7 times now, at the hairdressers, which has cost me too much. my hair is now a golden blonde, so i was wondering if i could just bleach my whole head without it turning yellow/orange? please try and get back to me, if you just reply on my youtube account? thankyou x
do yah think if I use a light blonde ash colour from matrix over my dark, dark brown dyed hair with 40 vol, will I get an orange? so I can skip some bleaching steps.
I bleached my hair and its damaged now.. at a light brown
and im scared to go platinum because i dont want it damaged more. I started at black dyed hair too. anywho the ends are tangly. and rough to the touch..
@retropinup13 I went to a salon and they left my hair feeling like that. I bought a treatment called neutrogena triple moisture deep recovery mask and my hair felt fine within a week
When I had a good job, I could not afford to keep my hair blonde. It grows too fast. Also after a hair strip, my hair is gold and determined to stay that way. It also curled in odd ways. The only way to get blonder is to use products designed for people with blonde hair already. Ah, that was torture. I also have blues and it made them electric, glowing which was terrible. It looks much better on people with brown.
i have a question. when applying your bleach did you do your lengths first and then your roots after waiting awhile? I have a golden blonde hair color right now with a bit of a light ash brown which is my natural hair color. I'm thinking that i might not have to bleach it several times because after watching numerous videos about bleaching the only ones that i see doing more than one application are people with really dark hair.
I had really dark hair. I colour stripped it twice because the dyes did not fully come out the first time . I bleached the reddish brown ends with 40%, waited a few hours and bleached all my hair with 30%, leaving roots until last. I then used Wella's Koeston Ash Blonde with 40% and my hair is now mostly a uniform strawberry blonde which I will correct over the next few weeks. I think you should be ok to do once because mine was so dark, but I'm not a hair stylist !!
Ok so I did it.. At first when I was rinsing I was becoming a bit nervous when I saw all the brassy orange and yellow tones. Then after rinsing I used a WELLA T10 ivory lady toner and left that on for 40 min. & with a sigh of relief it was so much better. I will put up some before and after pictures so you can see the difference.
Have colour stripped my brown/black dyed hair twice, roots nice light mousey brown colour, should have no probs there. Ends very coppery/red, gonna try Sally to see if there are any stronger bleaches than blondor (Wella) because my strand tests on the ends did not come out too well, probably too much remaining dye. if this doesn't work, there's always a hair cut ! Any advice about the ends would be much appreciated though :-)
hi! there are so many efficients products to bleach.. so hum..I just wanted to avoidd you from lorela products which are tested on animals..and that looks so bad so please stop using loreal ones , kiss
you should always do the roots last, as the heat from head speeds up the chemical process of bleaching. if you do it all at the same time, your roots will end up lighter than the rest of your hair.
Loves the video! Helped me a lot but my hair was a silver gray I used the purple shampoo and toned again after a few weeks and it was still gray. Any ideas why?
becuse the purple toner cancells out yellow making the hair white but it sounds like ur toner is too strong so it turned gray, just lay off the purple shampoo and the gray should fade and turn very light blond only use the purple toner and shampoo if u see yellow in ur hair, hope that helped :)
Hey I have a question for you. I tryed using a color stripper on my bleached blonde hair that was dyed brown to get it back to blonde and it worked but a few days later the artificial brown color came back. do you know why this happened? my friend says its because my hair is oxidized. How can I prevent this from happening again? thanks.
HI!! when you touch up your roots - are you able to achieve platinum blond color right away since it is a "virgin" hair and bleaches easy - does it much up the rest of your hair or do you see a different color? also - do i need to strip my hair out of color dye if the color is not dark its kind of brassy golden medium to darker blonde (dyed out of box) or can i just bleach over it? Thanks..
Your hair must be really fucked up and damaged going jet black white.. as a stylist i would only do this over the course of several months and have the hair cut very regulary, putting non permanent colours on the hair to even out the colour and make it nicer, I would only bleach it once a month at the least. And I'd also only use a 20vol after the stripping, 30+40 work faster but really ruin your hair. Why have horribly damaged hair when you could have patience and get better results?
As a hair professional you should know that different hair can withstand and reacts to different bleaches, dyes, developers, strippers, etc. Like I said, this was my experience. It took me about 6 months to get the end result as I have said many times in the comments, I did not fuck my hair up, it's actually in pretty good condition. To each their own.
i dyed my hair black for a few years and then ahve been trying to make it blonde since december
i got it bleached like 2 times and now the hair dresser just bleach washes it and tones it but it still is a goldeny dark yellow colour, i really rreally want it to go light. should i just bleach it at home myself?
The toner works pretty fast, i wouldn't leave it on the first time more than 15 minutes, because if you happen to leave it on longer and it works well, then you'll end up with purple tinted hair. Be careful!
Okay. This is going to be a dumb question, but how do you do the back of your head for the touch ups without the bleach getting on the already processed part? I'm afraid I have no hand-eye coordination looking into the mirror, but I have no choice but to do this myself because I wouldn't have the money to go to a salon. :C
Hey im Britney just read ur comment, well if it helps i divide the back of my hair as if im doing pig tails, clip the two pieces, hold a mirror facing a big mirror and touch up the straight line down ur head then do the left or right side piece by piece clipping a piece and doing the root while with the other hand holding the mirror sounds hard but im like u! dont have the money but ull get used to it hope it helped!
You should just strip it, and if it ends up a pretty even color (it won't be pretty, but if it's at least even) you can just put a brown dye on top of it. You should be okay! You can strip your hair more than once if you need to, it's less harsh than bleach.
Sooo i've just spent a year making my (dyed) dark brown hair a sort of dirty blonde, via layers and layers of foils. I've always wanted it platinum but the blonding process seems to have plateaued... at least in terms of getting foils..
if i get my hair just bleached like this on top of foils will it work.. or will my hair just all break off?
if your hair is already pretty blonde where you foiled it, you shouldn't bleach over it again, it's called "double processing" and can damage your hair, but if it needs to be blonder and it's not too processed you can bleach it again, but try to bleach the parts that aren't as blonde first to get it all to an even color :)
It's going to take a while for it to grow out, if you want it done now just strip it, you might as well. But it's up to you, just strip the top half if you're going to do it. :)
hay you should use a product called wella color fresh 0/6 its a true semi u wash ur hair once with a normal shampoo the just put the colour st8 out of the bottle on ur hair and leave it for 20 mins and ur colour will be fab i all ways use it and i LOVE it u will get it at ur store where u get ur products from hope u try it xx
Yeah I actually use something like that now called Ultra White Minx and it's just a color rinse, you just put it in after the shower and it kind of is like leave in conditioner, but it gives your hair a bright blonde/white color, it's great! Good suggestion.
Oh, well the purple is a little less harsh, the blue is for darker hair and is a higher strength. If my hair is stubborn I use the blue, if I am only doing the touch up I use the purple. :) It depends on your hair but both work well.
also, you know how on the shimmer lights shampoo bottle it says "leave second lather on for 3-5 minutes"... does that mean you do two lathers in one shower or every second time you shower leave it in longer?
You dont HAVE to do a second lather, unless you rinse it out after the first and it's not how you want it. Just be careful or your hair will have a silver type hue to it. You would do two lathers in one shower. :) Be careful and dont leave on for too long, I would say not even 5 minutes, just a couple. Good luck :)
I've bleached my hair and toned it a few times and using violet shampoo and conditioner. It's still not white....should I spot bleach? or keep trying to tone it...the toner seems to wash out or just not go the white colour i want...oh and I already cut my hair...actually it looks kinda like yours! :)
A couple minutes at the most! Its not hair dye, its just colored shampoo. If you leave it on too long it WILL turn your hair a silver/violet color so be careful, if you need to do it again after the first time that's okay but better to be safe than sorry! ;)
It cost me under $150 over the several MONTHS it took me to achieve the optimum color, but it probably won't cost anyone who tries this that much, as I have somewhat perfected my method and the first time I did it, I used a bunch of crap that didn't work. Each time I touch up my growout it costs about 10 bucks. Much cheaper than the salon.
AFTER you bleach your hair, you mix toner with developer (the same developer you mix with the bleach) and apply it to your hair. You do not mix toner with the bleach! It's for after you bleach to a light yellow color. :)
This helped so much!! great video :)

@MissSovietBones everyones hair is different so i dont want to provide wrong information, but with my hair i used that purple toning shampoo, toned a lot, and no i didnt use developer..although that sounds like it would work? and that's funny they said that...cause toner is MADE for lifting hair.lol! then again i do not know the exact yellow you have. if it is sort of brassy, toner should definitely work
razzamatazzy 10 months ago
@MissSovietBones I am a professional hair colorist and have been doing hair for 14 years...Toner is NOT made to lift hair. Toners are normally mixed with an activator which does not contain peroxide, or has a very low level of peroxide. Toners are meant to add pigment to bleached out hair and fight yellow/ brassiness. If you are using a "toner" with a high level of peroxide (20, 30, or 40 volume), than you are not toning your hair, you are dying it/ damaging it further. Toner adds health to hair

what do you use with the pure white developer? xx
xxLaUrEnxx10xx1 11 months ago
@fablehottie Bleaching is permanent. If you use manic panic, when it fades it'll go a faded colour of the colour you use; e.g you use red dye, it'll eventually fade to a orange/yellow. if you use a blue, it'll go a green colour.

I've tried to bleach my hair a billion times.
It never gets this result.
i gave up about 6 months ago, and now i'm training as a stylist i'm progressively going blonde. i ask to get foils from my boss every week and she keeps telling me i need to wait. I'm so impatient and i'm jealous of your results! haha

i LOVE your end result and it looks AMAZING on you, and i really wanna achieve a similar look for me. it doesnt have to be WHITE, but a really light/platimum blonde is ok. right now my hair is only a light brown/really dark blonde type after i dyed it. do i need to strip the color first? cuz the salon lady said stripping the color and then bleaching would ruin my hair, and that my hair was already light enough. but its not my natural color, so idk; THNX!

i'm sick and tired of hairdresser telling us you can't do it you can't do that. just because they can cut hair doesn't mean your a good hair dresser. people whos not a hairdressers can have more knowledge than most of hairdressers, where ive seen or know so many people with beautiful hair that you can achieve at home. i love your hair and i change my hair colour every six months and i really don't care if i m damaging my hair, ppl damaging their hair to sudden extended anyway.

Why is it, about a year ago, I bleached my hair for the first time, that was all I did to it.
I'd never bleached it before, and it'd always been nice hair, never damaged.
Then, right after, for about a year,it was horribly damaged.
I tried a ton of conditioning stuff that is supposed to help, when it did.
But, around christmas, my straightener broke, so I stopped straightening it for about a month, then it was really shiny and a lot nicer.
But why did it get so damaged over only bleaching it once?

nd to tone with a toner that you need to use a ammonia peroxide is just as bad for your hair as bleaching coloring your hair. as for shampoo and conditioner try "Alterna" Caviar blonde and they have nice treatments, I am a platinum blonde and i have be for 14ys now and my hair is really nice :) well to all who feels the need to do it @ home I wish the best for your hair :) and good luck.
BlackRockTaffy 2 years ago
For anyone who is going to use the color zap. if you are going to do your whole head you should buy at least 2 because one bottle is not alot. also dont put it to close to your scalp it itches worse than bleach. ive used it but it does work.

ShyTooShy 2 years ago
Hey,your hair wont fall off. im naturally dark brown, but about 4 months ago i dyed my hair black, then about 4 weeks later i bleached it,it went orangy, the i used a toner which lifted most of the orange tones out. The i used an ash blonde colour which took out the rest of the orange. Then i did another bleaching after conditioning my hair (alot of times) Now its a lovely light blonde :)

I'm thinking that i might not have to bleach it several times because after watching numerous videos about bleaching the only ones that i see doing more than one application are people with really dark hair.
what do you think?
would be so greatful for a response.

xjetX08x 2 years ago
Hi Jet,
I had really dark hair.
Good Luck :-)
shtuah 2 years ago
Ok so I did it.. At first when I was rinsing I was becoming a bit nervous when I saw all the brassy orange and yellow tones. Then after rinsing I used a WELLA T10 ivory lady toner and left that on for 40 min. & with a sigh of relief it was so much better. I will put up some before and after pictures so you can see the difference.
xjetX08x 2 years ago
Have colour stripped my brown/black dyed hair twice, roots nice light mousey brown colour, should have no probs there. Ends very coppery/red, gonna try Sally to see if there are any stronger bleaches than blondor (Wella) because my strand tests on the ends did not come out too well, probably too much remaining dye. if this doesn't work, there's always a hair cut ! Any advice about the ends would be much appreciated though :-)

Plz answer this!:
DID YOU BLEACH IT ALL AT ONCE OR DID YOU DO THE ROOTS LAST???
iloveJodyy 2 years ago
you should always do the roots last, as the heat from head speeds up the chemical process of bleaching. if you do it all at the same time, your roots will end up lighter than the rest of your hair.

what is your natural hair colour?
livelovelifehope 2 years ago
HI!! when you touch up your roots - are you able to achieve platinum blond color right away since it is a "virgin" hair and bleaches easy - does it much up the rest of your hair or do you see a different color? also - do i need to strip my hair out of color dye if the color is not dark its kind of brassy golden medium to darker blonde (dyed out of box) or can i just bleach over it? Thanks..
Daigalatvia 2 years ago
sorry but what us your natural hair color?
just wondering cuz mine is naturally the darkest brown there is and i can't get it to lift past the orangey-yellow color.
pastamuffin 2 years ago
Your hair must be really fucked up and damaged going jet black white.. as a stylist i would only do this over the course of several months and have the hair cut very regulary, putting non permanent colours on the hair to even out the colour and make it nicer, I would only bleach it once a month at the least. And I'd also only use a 20vol after the stripping, 30+40 work faster but really ruin your hair. Why have horribly damaged hair when you could have patience and get better results?
SAMMbatMan 2 years ago
As a hair professional you should know that different hair can withstand and reacts to different bleaches, dyes, developers, strippers, etc. Like I said, this was my experience. It took me about 6 months to get the end result as I have said many times in the comments, I did not fuck my hair up, it's actually in pretty good condition. To each their own.

do you leave the creme toner on for 15 minutes or longer? the directions say 15 minutes but that seems awfully short
giltgold 2 years ago
The toner works pretty fast, i wouldn't leave it on the first time more than 15 minutes, because if you happen to leave it on longer and it works well, then you'll end up with purple tinted hair. Be careful!
xsullengirlx 2 years ago

Hello :)
so my hair use to be brown but i dyed it black &some parts of my brown hair is coming back. and i want to dye it back to brown.
should i just strip it out? or do i have to strip &bleach it?
michelepalasi 2 years ago
You should just strip it, and if it ends up a pretty even color (it won't be pretty, but if it's at least even) you can just put a brown dye on top of it. You should be okay! You can strip your hair more than once if you need to, it's less harsh than bleach.
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
Sooo i've just spent a year making my (dyed) dark brown hair a sort of dirty blonde, via layers and layers of foils. I've always wanted it platinum but the blonding process seems to have plateaued... at least in terms of getting foils..
if i get my hair just bleached like this on top of foils will it work.. or will my hair just all break off?
Maddierose18 2 years ago
if your hair is already pretty blonde where you foiled it, you shouldn't bleach over it again, it's called "double processing" and can damage your hair, but if it needs to be blonder and it's not too processed you can bleach it again, but try to bleach the parts that aren't as blonde first to get it all to an even color :)
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
ok, so i have black hair right now, that is dyed
and i want to go blonde on top
and black still on the bottom
should i just strip my hair
or just wait till it all grows out?
EmilyTaylorLacombe 2 years ago
It's going to take a while for it to grow out, if you want it done now just strip it, you might as well. But it's up to you, just strip the top half if you're going to do it. :)
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
hay you should use a product called wella color fresh 0/6 its a true semi u wash ur hair once with a normal shampoo the just put the colour st8 out of the bottle on ur hair and leave it for 20 mins and ur colour will be fab i all ways use it and i LOVE it u will get it at ur store where u get ur products from hope u try it xx
invhair123 2 years ago
Yeah I actually use something like that now called Ultra White Minx and it's just a color rinse, you just put it in after the shower and it kind of is like leave in conditioner, but it gives your hair a bright blonde/white color, it's great! Good suggestion.
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
why did your peerfer the purple tothe blue kaliedea colors. i remmber bleaching my hair years ago with the blue one. just curious
weezerchic78 2 years ago
Oh, well the purple is a little less harsh, the blue is for darker hair and is a higher strength. If my hair is stubborn I use the blue, if I am only doing the touch up I use the purple. :) It depends on your hair but both work well.
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
If you're already a Champaign or medium ash blonde, do you still need to bleach? Also, is bleaching and frosting the same thing?
ZoomOnMyRocketShip 2 years ago
you might be able to tone it from a medium blonde, I'd try it before bleaching. Bleaching is an all over bleach, frosting is different. :)
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
also, you know how on the shimmer lights shampoo bottle it says "leave second lather on for 3-5 minutes"... does that mean you do two lathers in one shower or every second time you shower leave it in longer?
giltgold 2 years ago
You dont HAVE to do a second lather, unless you rinse it out after the first and it's not how you want it. Just be careful or your hair will have a silver type hue to it. You would do two lathers in one shower. :) Be careful and dont leave on for too long, I would say not even 5 minutes, just a couple. Good luck :)

how long do you leave the shimmer lights on for? 2min or 2 hours?

How do you use the toner? One person siad mix it with the bleach, another said bye itself. Which is it?

AFTER you bleach your hair, you mix toner with developer (the same developer you mix with the bleach) and apply it to your hair. You do not mix toner with the bleach! It's for after you bleach to a light yellow color. :)

I think I might have to buy more developer cause the bleach kit that I got has to use all of it.
Where should I look for developer and good toner? ((Walmart most likely wont have it.))
