  • When potential gradient at any point of air exceeds about 30kV per cm, a brush discharge takes place and the air becomes conducting and luminous as u can see. The discharge only exits in the region where the dielectric strength of the air has been exceeded. In other words, high voltage ionizes the air and converts it to plasma.
