Whatever we may think of their youthful foolishness, I can only imagine what anquish this mother must be in. As a mother myself, I would not want to walk in her shoes. Hopefully, this appeal will not go unheard, as I am sure that a mother's love is universally understood.
I pray that these families will be reunited very shortly. I trust that the Iranian government will realize there is no need to retain these young innocent hikers. I send all my support and best wishes to the young hikers and their families.
While the US government may not be able to negotiate for their release, European diplomats have served as great intermediaries in securing the release of American citizens held overseas by some nations.
