This book was amazing and I believe it was indeed written by a teenage girl. She seems really strange to alot people because of the time frame she grew up in, and I personally thought the book was great, and highly believable.
If you've never done the drugs, you can't really say how 'fictional' the book was. Only one who's done it before can truly understand. Maybe some pieces were fabricated, but I thought it was definitely the diary of a young girl, and may I emphasize YOUNG GIRL. She was extremely naive, and annoying, but again, the time she grew up in and the age she was, makes it that much more believable to me. This is one of my top fave books, next to A Child Called It. I hoped you enjoyed it too. :)

Personally, if you want to read a book about drugs and teenagers, "Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" (we children from bahnhof zoo) is a better book, more sociological, more realistic. I wouldn't say that Go Ask Alice isn't interessant, but we feel too much the fictionnal writing, and the mormonic morale of the writer annoyed me.
i wouldnt say that the book is fake per say. some of the trips in it were described in a way only someone who was on the drug could describe. not all of it has to be true, but obviously there is some truth to it.
i have just finished reading "GO ASK ALICE" and for me even if it may be made up or true.. i believe that our generation today experiences these kind of events.. and now that i m turning fifteen just like the subject in the book i will make sure i learn from this story and whoever the author may be.. i hope he or she is proud to touch others' lives through this book ;)

Omg her name is not Alice! And I don't recall her house being like that isn't suppost to be like Spanish Mexican type or something like that not a farm?! And where's her sister alex?! This is why I hate reading a book that's fucking great and I get so excited cause there's a movie being made but the whole movie is the complete opposite or so. I stick with books; more details and you don't have a director to change things around >:(

This is a wonderful book, and I understand that they had to change somethings for the movie, but her name isn't Alice! Her name isn't ever given in her diary! Really, the directors of movie made from books should at least try to get a few things right.

So finished the book and found out it is really fictional it's just what a therapist uses to scare teens. She said less than half was from an actual diary of a patient the rest was experiences she heard about. That's bull

it says that it is from anonymous because when alice died of overdose of drugs, her friend must of found the diary and shared alice's story with the world.

I saw this movie back in the 70's and it gave me the creeps. Even the song. I was a young teen myself when this movie first came out and boy did this movie taught me not to use drugs. I did smoked years later, but, I had my limits

i dont think its sad; but its sad that she was given drugs without knowing. She actually didn't do this to herself she couldn't stop once she started.
