  • Wondering why Sudan is a developing country in 21st century. There are many reasons for that. You can't oversimplify things and put it down to negative thinking. The only countries that have ever managed to stop being a developing country of late are the oil rich ones.

  • lllllllllllllliik we b$da

  • mashallah walahi...u gave me goose bumps!!..but i def agree with that fact that this message needs to be shared with the common Sudanese youth...this message is very inspiring but would touch them more if it was translated into our beautiful language Arabic!!!.and lets see u were very inspired by this what should i do to become part of the change?? if we can address this great issue that would be great!!! and thank u Wafa for the beautiful speach!!

    Ahmed Hassan

  • such an open minded person, deep thanks to you for your hard work to improve our country,, BUT i dont think thats going to work .. .. .

  • Really Great Positive Thinking, thank you Wafa Elamin

  • One more thing people inside Sudan are not looking for change , They are Pursuing behind their own SIMPLE needs , there should be some kind of awareness for All classes of people.

    Thank you.

  • She talks really good , but I'm going to add one more thing , which is how could the Sudanese community build Sudan while the government is watching , I'm one of the people who think positively and I really want to do something to change Sudan but ! Government should Encourage people to do such things ! otherwise they are destroying Youth and their Ideas & thoughts.

  • I wish if you were able to articulate the important role of the government also in the development of a country and I don't mean to blame the government for everything . I guess to build a country we need resources, freedom , man power and most importantly courage & good thinking like yours! well done young lady!

  • Very judgmental .....

  • ...(continued) And no idea why it makes a difference if u spoke in English/Arabic,Ur point was 2get ur msg across 2those who attended & were going 2 see this on youtube so why nt pick a common language familiar 2many around the world?Like they say, if u don't have anything good 2 say then dont say anything! Wish you all the best for your exams, inshaallah you will pass. May Allah (SWT) bless you and your family. I look forward to seeing more videos like this! Well done! :)

  • Salaam Wafa.Don't let the -ve thinkers put u down. All they have 2say r -ve comments (almost like they're trying 2prove ur point in this lecture)!U have brilliant presentation skills + ur passion bout changing Sudan 2 a better place for every1 is clearly visible Keep up the hard work!U will go far INSHAALLAH.

  • WELL DONE WAFA!!!!! BRILLIANT SPEECH..I ADMIRE WHAT YOU ARE DOING...THE WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU..INSHALLAH YOU CONTINUE TO DO WELL IN YOUR FUTURE...MY FAMILY AND I SUPPORT YOU FULLY...THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOME PEOPLE WITH NEGATIVE VIEWS BUT LIKE YOU SAID THINK POSITIVE!!I HOPEFULLY YOU INSPIRE THE SUDANESE NATION TO BUILD A GREAT FUTURE FOR OUR COUNTRY :) ..YOUVE ATTRACTED A HUGE FAN BASE..IT MEANS YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT .ITS NOT THE LANGUAGE YOU SPEAK ITS THE MESSAGE YOU SEND.

  • She is good but not very good.

  • DISLIKE big time, the questionnaire doesn't reflect how positive or negative one is, it's more about how you feel the situation is, I think it's more like asking someone who is burning in fire "How do you feel?" and you expect "Well it's quite hot right now but soon the fire will burn itself out ". I also heard laziness in the presentation ... Come on -42 candidates,3 questions, result = negative thinking-.... That's lazy

  • good points.. but i dont think she really knew why are the 38% are not willing to to ever come back>> almwdo3 is waaaaaay bigger than being positve thinker.. its about plitics !!!!!!!!

  • thank you Dear Wafa .... finely !!! someone who think right ! .. we should all study this Lecture share it physically around the Sudan..

  • fuck off this ain't going to happens what you think it suppose to happen

  • amazing, bravo

  • I agreed with her 100% since we as Sudanese we are always have negative thinking, the current example is the majority of the comments.you complaining because she speak in English ?? Come one give me break idiots, it's you who need to grew and learn English in order to enhance your knowledge. It should motivate you to lean new things instead of just critic or blaming others.

  • and a big clap to your friend who wrote that inspiring note

    much love

  • that 85.7 % of the youth who took your questionnaire is mostly consisted of apathetic youth who are also too afraid to face the KOZ behind the declination of Sudan. they're not negative thinkers, they're just selfish

  • Im very influenced by thiis and i hope others do too..

First of all..i dont think its a problem if her speech is in english because this would change the way other cultures look at us as lazy people because many people will get to watch it..and think postively..i would like you to continue what you are doing and drive in more youths..to join you and to expand i even more go to schools and other universities were you can make your speech in arabic aswell. Much respect from a 15 year old female.

  • A clap from London for you Wafa..inspiring to say the least.

  • It is an amazing talk :)

  • 38% want to leave,57% will back to retire ! who killed the patriotism ? i guess we all know ...

thanx Wafa for the enlightenment, and i hope one day you make a survey where all the people mark "easy","the land of opportunities" & "excited to be here"

  • @bashiralsamani ameen !

  • I hope I got her wrong, because it sure sounds like she's saying let's ignore and shove poverty and HIV under the rug in the name of optimism :S

  • @muzyalneel yes u got it wrong. She says lets be optimistic and believe in ourselves our and let us change our country with hardwork and devotion. Let us dont be lazy... Btw im using us-we words but im a turkish lol take care

  • @muzyalneel LOL! I think she's just saying that in order for Sudan to develop the sudanese people need love and desire their country. They need to WANT to be there no matter how difficult it is. I agree with her type of thinking and so im moving back to south sudan after university. It's a poor country with no roads or electricity but if i wait around in the west and tell myself "I will go back once it's like the west" if i think like that then south sudan will never get built!

  • @muzyalneel I dont know where or how you came up with that conclusion but she NEVER said that! she meant that YES, WE HAVE POVERTY AND ISSUES,HOWEVER...THAT SHOULDNT DEFINE US AS A PEOPLE/NATION! I dont believe any Sudanese person or any human with a sound mind and heart would push poverty and the like under the rug! thats absurd.

  • demn!!! she looks just like Karyn Parsons...

  • the capacity of youtube text characters driving me crazy :@

anyways, what I want to say is that other people start to blame others and try to make tactics against the government without realizing that there is easier & safer option in which they can start from themselves with a very simple actions like starting to think positively as you said :)

anyways before I leave i just wanted to show you how i'm impressed by you

sorry if there are any typos i'm pretty busy & writing in hurry ..

    Peace!

  • Anyways the only reason behind coming here is to Say BIG THANK YOU ya wafaa ..Really i'm very proud of you MashaAllah tabrakAllah .. I like the way you think the way you talk the you love your country the way you express that love and I really admire all people like you who do live in Sudan and still they want to change their world to better world not by blaming others or just walk off and surrendering .. or even escape from reality .. all other people they start to blame >>> To Be Continue

  • nothing to go back to except misery and unpleasant experiences.

  • Masha Allah Jazakumullahu khairan Wafa. I have always believed that the problem of Africa is not because of scarcity but the way we picture it and think of it. All of us Africans think negative of our countries, societies, and people. Relaying as Wafa puts it on foreign aid and others to feed us is not only against our human dignity, diminishes our human potential, but its also against our faith as Muslims as our prophet (PBUH) recommended us to be helpers instead of imploring others for help.

  • The transcript of the video text can be found at this link: bitly(dot)com/uPJ2OR

Anyone can take this and translate it into Arabic for the general benefit.

  • Negative thinking isn't whats wrong with Sudan, its a result of whats wrong with Sudan. Sharia implementation of government, and severe corruption is what is wrong. Why would you promote staying in Sudan, If given the opportunity to leave please leave and strive for a better life for your family. Despite what she believes the best way to help Sudan is from the outside because you won't be executed for trying . Real world problems aren't going away because this girl read The Secret.

  • @MAZ1N00 U are 100% right my friend!

  • @MAZ1N00 How many countries have been successful by that? you are a coward! you leave in FEAR of the government and expect to develop sudan from another country! ahahahah! thats funny! Look up the history of America and other nations, they ALL fought and died on their soil! if you cant fight and die to defend your land, than you dont give a fuck about your country! Im sorry to use that language but its true! its a shame that you think going abroad is the solution.

  • @LadyInRedNY Next time Anyone gets an opportunity for free speech, a good education,a higher quality of life, opportunities to provide for their family, they should give all of that up and stay in Sudan so that you can think positively and maybe one day change Sudan with the power of thought, if that's how you think life works kill yourself.

  • @MAZ1N00 It doesnt matter if you were born in America, your roots are still in Sudan! You are manipulating my words to suit your own argument(or lack of one). I never said dont venture out, but your comment was disturbing! you dont want to join the frontlines, but you want to be a "cyber activist"! thats a punk move! Since you want to talk about America, how about you look up the history of America instead of talking like an idiot! AMERICANS FOUGHT AND DIED SO THAT THEIR KIDS DONT HAVE TO

  • Comment removed

  • @MAZ1N00 If I raised a son who will hide and become a punk like you! I WOULD KILL MYSELF! the issue with trash like you is that America brings in alot o ftrash from Sudan! and theyproduce like roaches! they contribute nothing o the country! they just hop around, maybe make a discount store or 2! and than suck off of the governments tit! I know your type very well! Youre a punk! and having American citizenship will neve r maek you a man! just hide like you usally do behind a screen

  • @LadyInRedNY Are you mad? Does my citizenship offend you some how? Hey look I'm getting an education at an American university. Is that correct grammar, punctuation and sentence structure? Is that the ability to discriminate between genitalia and passports? Is that freedom to bring up the word genitalia! Doesn't Allah want you to go kill some non-muslims or something?

  • @MAZ1N00 Cany you read my screenname "ladyinredNEWYORK", I was raised here! what makes me mad is the government bringing in trashy sudanese like yourself! you mooch off the government and breed more trash in the country! so I am mad, at that! Geroge w bush went the the best American University, YALE! and he is still a ignorant fool! a diploma/degree doesnt define you as a human being! you make no sense whatsoever! and is that lil "attack" at the end suppossed to offend me? ahahahaha, weak.

  • We have problems in Sudan. Food shortage, water shortage, war ..etc. Positive thinking will not slove these problems. If there is a starving child infront of you, is his problem negative attitude? I think negative thinking is just an outcome of the situation you are put in. We need real improvement.

  • ..however I admire her enthusiasm even though near the end she kind of missed her main point and mentioned 3a6ala w ma ta3rif shno

And please whoever uploaded this put some subtitles, will ya? 3shan al ma fahim yefham w alneqash yekoun mawdou3i

  • @gawjuss22 baraka allaho fik beljad e'7asarta kol al comment fi reply wa7id ^_^

  • I understand her line of reasoning but it seems unreasonable to blame Sudan's underdevelopment on negative thinking; historically, country's have developed due to many factors none which the population have total control of. Negative thinking is merely a symptom of underdevelopment not a cause. Nevertheless, it's nice to see these conferences taking place in my home country giving people a chance to voice their perspectives; its a sign of improvement.

  • @electronbean kalamak jail mashalla baraka allaho fik :)

  • @azzazam88 jamil :D

  • Okay..what I think is yeah Sudanese people are negative, not that they're just negative but, most of us are so when the topic is Sudan..so instead of talking about how it is important to adopt a positive way of thinking it should be more about how we love this country as a homeland and from that we can fix a lot things

I agree w/ azzazam88 on that Wafa should have made a more comprehensive questionnaire by maybe more than 42 sample idk it's my area of expertise haha

    however, I admire her enthu..

  • a huge shout out from UAE to TEDX Youth and to every single finger that shared a tool in this event , Wafa your amazing ,fabulous as a personality, love the fact that you talked using diagrams and the charts, thats how should people talk in such a conference,I would like to be in contact with you,I wish if i was there to share you my arm and my leg in this event, hope people get some benefits from these wonderful rare talks .

    regards.

  • I am so proud of her , I dnt know whats the issue in the comments ! about that she spoke in english ! but the program is an english speaking one so if she was born in ireland or omdurman she would have had to speak in english !!!!! if she wanted to say the great things she did she is a phenomenal being we must apprecaite

  • lol, it seems that everything i say will be criticized, i asked anwar to translate for the less fluent majority, hence the forgive my imposition , and it seems she's right , we will change this into destructive banter , us negative thinkers , how about discussing the video instead of the commentators, i believe it will enrich this board more than the personal singling out that you so obviously master :D

  • i greeet ya Wafa , hope ya all the best in what ya r doin ,

  • Really you made us think differently tislam al baton algabtik wa yislam khasmik

  • we need arabic subtitle

CC Button translate with stupid way

  • Very realistic . I appreciate your efforts . Keep it up Wafa and do not listen to those who try to give negative thoughts about what you are doing .

  • At the end it's an effort liable to be right or wrong ... it's a motive for the teenage population to attempt such efforts where they can be useful ... such people we must stand near them beside them support them cuz after all we know that a country is bulid up by it's youth population, they are developing wheel of that country by any means ...thank you

  • @azzazam88 .. I didn't mean any disrespect earlier .. what I'm saying is .. she made an effort even though it's little compared to the broad spectrum of Sudanese variations, So my point of view is it's time to let go of what ever racism that we have ... such as he is from UMST, or from Khartoum university..etc,or he is Ja3li wo shagyi or janobi, or what ever .... these are some the things which have dragged us to such a disaster which is eventually build up on negativity and negative thinking

  • @Sloomfarah and another thing fi my opinion eno al questionnaire did measure al positive thinking (kif ne7na benfakir positively) wala measured if we love our country o 7enag3od fiha??

  • Good Step and start. May ALLAH Bless you and helps you (AND US OF COURSE) To be the step of change needed for this country. I'm starting at least by myself and starts thinking positively. Wafa, wish you best of luck.

  • Thanks Wafa nice talk, but as we all know if you don't try you will never know. Most of our Sudanese they just making things complicate and disappointing the thinkers, but no matter what happened no way else except the change but to change the damage w've got to struggle to do so and present the country the way that suit our ability thanks once again keep it up and we need more positives and good ideas to joyn

So as I was saying "since most of you negitive thinkers hated the fact that she spoke in English I'll carry on by English not for the fact that I just want to oppose you but only to point out that we REALLY need to let go the minor pointless issues and concentrate on the most important ones"..

    Dear Wafa,

1st of all I admire the passion you have for Sudan.

  • Thanks for the nice talk.

You gave us hope that somebody wants to do something. I wish the day comes that I speak high of my country and my people. That is what we need: hope and perseverance.

We all need this .. so don't blame her for speaking of a language that the hole world speakin' ... blame the one who doesn't want to learn it !

  • am 14 years old I agreed with every single word she has said .. am not living in Sudan but I do feel what goes on IN Sudan I DREAM of making a change I would simply give my life for that change but again motivating a person to change some fixed NEGATIVE characteristics of his/her is not easy. I just wish if a lot of people like you stand up and speak their minds in hard words hoping to rise our country to the top of the top :) we don't have anything missing in our country except motivation

  • @alooyaki6

wonderful, she is talking to you, too, you can be part of this change, just do not loose this feeling, and we can do it. change starts with conversation, sounding out ideas, and it will happen if we believe it will.

What I love about this statement is that Wafa is one person. She IS making a change.

Remember, even the longest journey begins with one step.

  • Madridaa,, Because the language of the one i am talking to seems to be English,,, As long as we talk specifically ,, i am not talking to the whole nation here

  • soooo gaily81 why you talkin english 2??!!!! i dont get it , if you wanna reach our hearts answer in arabic!!!

  • Good say.. But the change in Sudan should start from the head of the pyramid.. The main reason behind all the problems is our leadership.. an inspiring leader with vision can create a civilized nation..

  • @drhzagalo

  • really good presentation u did .. may allah help u in what ur are doing :) One day me and other's will stand with u to change to what is better for us as a nation and as a country ^_^

  • Dear Wafa,, the first step to reach the hearts and minds of any community is to speak their language and say it in a simple way,, the first impression comes to mind out of this speech is (showing off) ,, yes,,you have a good English,, but i doubt if any of your words reached more than 1% of sudanese ,, to change Sudanese,,BE A SUDANESE ,, after that,, people may discuss what you were saying

  • @gaily81 : 7abeeebna ... inta leeeh ,ma katbta al comment beta3k b l 3arabe ??? ne6'am shno maslan ..!??! bufff =.='''

  • @shenajawa ,, read the reply comment ,, i said why

  • @shenajawa

  • @gaily81. I can hear you. But this is not about language and semantics, this is about attitude and context. Deciding to talk in english when you are on a TEDx stage means that you have decided to reach by far more people with your words. Wafas talk does not only apply to the Sudan but to the whole world.

  • @Stolz2000 ,, I don't think so,, She,,and the rest of the conference were well oriented in their talks,, (the want to change sudan) ,, this is the idea,,do you think that as the best way to do so??

  • @Stolz2000 , If the talk is oriented to TEDx people!! in that case,,English or French is not a big deal ,, but from what i can see,, she was talking to Sudanese,, i agree,,the willing to do something deserves respect

  • @gaily81

  • @maax9111 .. read the reply

  • @maax9111 ,,see the reply above

  • @BaRa6992 READ THE WHOLE COMENTS,, god,,i answered this more than once

  • @gaily81 Dear fellow Sudanese, haven't we learn anything from her speech? she participated, she spoke and she has put effort and perhaps INSPIRED many.

    what have you done?

  • @maxmap ,, dear,,,it is not the place to show what i have done,, the talk is not about me here,,

  • @gaily81

yes why are you writing in english?.....she is talking about the negative thinkers like you. you did not see anything out of her beautiful talk except her language. she did a fabulous job discussing this issue. she was talikng about you the whole time and you totaly proved her right. by the way, I'm writing in english because I do not have an Arabic board, and I'm sure she is talking in English, because she knows that what her audiance appreciate and understand...........

  • @Aiemu2006 ,, Dear,, you don't know me to judge me as Negative or whatsoever,,, and secondly,,if she is talking to me or specific people,, i would never mind the language or style,, SHE WAS TALKING TO THE WHOLE NATION ,, as she said,, do you really think about that this way??? i doubt ,, thanks,,no need for personal criticism (you can get online arabic keyboard,, you don't need to defend your self)

  • @gaily81

  • @gaily81 This is a TEDx convention so the standard is that all speakers should present their talk in english

  • @carisma200x m3 eno ma shayfa al lo'3a knt moshkila asasya lkn fi nas fi TEDx they present be al 3arabi o fi videos nazla lihm fi youtube!!

    POSITIVE THINKING!!

  • @gaily81 I respect what you say but if you know, the organizers of the event (TED) wanted it to be in English in order to spread the word. This event is focusing on giving the world a better understanding about the topics that are being discussed and so every event held by TED. You should be happy and proud that this girl is representing us and a good example of Sudanese youth. and STOP CRITICIZING for the sake of CRITICIZING !!!

  • waht a good start from our youth in sudan TEDxYouth@khartoum, this type of thinking must spread between us through media, our national TV, Internet, SMS, Share in walls, all of us must be part of the chabge..

    thanks Wafa for this ....

thanks Sudani People who share this and think about it...

    thanks TEDxYouth@khartoum for re-brand Sudan.....

  • GO WAFA! WOOOOOOO ;)

  • some people can't find food, others are dieing cuz of lake of carry form the doctors or hospitals they can't find enough treatment , they can't even find a property education they had to go outside to find it and the others they went out of Sudan to find jobs to find opportunities

TELL ME HOW they should be POSITIVE THINKERS ??

  • for positive thinking they should be hope

there should be a sign, a light of leadership

"i" as one of the youth i don't see any of these things

    this the problem

i hope you succeed in this cuz we need it

  • Superb speech , interactive audience , a true problem (i am 'sudani' --> nationality not a mobile carrier )

if you want a really grumpy and sad truth , do that survey in a mass scale (each university in the capital -kh- and see the results , you will be astonished ...

let me quote from a movie called "pursuit of happiness" ..

+I(f you truly want something , go and get it , PERIOD ..

ad another quote , if you want to do something , you will find a way

if you don't , you will find an excuse..

  • My question to wafa after this speech is this : if she is given the opportunity (say it internship or scholarship) to continue her education outside weather in europe or asian country, what would she really choose?? traveling abroad or continuing in her water project that she is currently working on, or (suppose that she was till working in NGO, would she continue her charity work there on expense of her future??)!!

  • I really like it! It's a little general at the beginning (plus maybe more words than 8 to choose from would be better next time ;)), but gets more and more interesting and filled with more and more concrete points as it goes along.

  • Great inspirational speech. She deserves to reach many ears. Both Sudanese and foreign.
