  • another movie that was better than I thought - its online at latest RELease Movies -dot -com

  • i might buy this

  • HORRIBLE UI!

  • Why not just get a PS3 or 360?

  • Okay I got confused lol. Ignore that comment

  • Pretty sure PS3 and the Xbox 360 is more towards gaming

  • xbox + external = Movies, Music, Pictures, All on your t.v. in High Def

  • i need this. im buying it.

  • its the end off "shacky" videos with camreas , YAY .. ye i cant spell deal with it

  • Hm, not a fan of Lisa.

  • your day vay day player xD lol!

  • loll

  • Edward, the content owners (not the creators, but the maf.. guys that own the copyrights) feel that anything less than pay-per-view so bulletproof you don't even get *snow* on your TV and passersby can't see the movie either is piracy. In actual point of fact, once you get a copy through legitimate channels into your home, if it stays there forever, it's yours to do with as you will.

  • Hm... Does that count as piracy? :P

  • YAY...!!! I didn't fuck up the recording.

I had a bad feeling I may have totally stuffed it.

    Turned out pretty good though.

  • Lawl the guy he was interviewing had a pink braclet.. hehehe

  • Damn, I'd buy this.

  • ok, great and perfect one!

  • Yes, AC Ryan do have a model, but it lacks High Definition, Networking capabilities, front panel buttons for use without remote, scheduled recording, file preview, time-shift, etc etc.

    The Coolech does it all.

  • over priced. ac ryan do something similar, cost you around $200 (no hdd).

Mediagate are excellent, however no record function. Compro and mediagate have new models coming soon that should compete a lot better with this product.

if it had a TV tuner it would be a winner.

  • the ending of the interview looked painful...

  • So this can be used as a secondary DVR for a HD cable system?

It might be useful for us non gamers out here as well.

  • it looks awesome! i want it!

  • Looks cool,my dad would love that.

  • Looks too complicated and unneeded. TV is so last year.

  • I dont like the way it looks.

  • Very ugly Apple Tv anyone?

  • fake laugh at 2:43 :P

  • amagod its a crippled ps3 xD

  • Zak - The user interface has been updated. See the article on our website for more. There is currently no MKV support as it is nigh on impossible to obtain them legally, and even if you do, they are multiple gigabytes in size. In our research, we have found that the demand is simply not yet there. As soon as practical, we will look at it further.

TBO - we do not sponsor Blunty, he is just a fan of the functionality of our gear.

  • hmmm

seems liek wind0ws expl0rer/ media centre

    kinda thing f0r yur tv

s0unds like blunty is sp0nserd by them ;)

  • Does it kinda work like a dazzle while playing with the xbox console?

  • The UI looks pretty average.

How does this stack up against the Popcorn hour?

    Can this play MKV's?

    Is it gigabit ethernet?

  • Another storage device, I'm sure sure somebody will buy one!

  • Not just storage, recording too.

  • appleTV?

  • hmmm well that could be useful. Beats having to use my DVD recorder to record my gameplay and then painfully extracting it to digital hardrive format.

  • I liked the background ._.

  • that is acctually one of the coolest gadgets ever I would get one if I watched a lot of tv.

  • I have been hoping for something like this for along time.

    This will be great.

  • Awesome stuff!

  • I would like that mostly for easy game recording.

  • its basically a xbox 360 except without netflix streaming and videogames :(

or a oversized ipod with a bigger hd:p

  • Not really, no, neither of the devices you mentioned can record.

  • well that may be but we can easily download episodes and stuff. And its already edited for us :p so commercial etc....

The hell with this i prefer windows media center

  • omg that wallpaper made me throw up on the keyboard. ugh!!!

    cool piece of tech though

  • Someone needs to tell the guys to hire a GUI Designer. The UI is terrible :)

  • Yes, and they have improved it. I got an email yesturday with a screenshot of the new UI. MUUUUCH better :)

  • Thats so cool! I wanna see more of it!

  • Why were you interviewing who sounds as if he was constantly asking a damn question!!!

Anyway, This seems a decent piece of kit but I wont be paying through the ass for this because it is simplifying what we already have. Moving things from a computer to an X-box or something!

  • I don't like the color.

  • Awesome Video.

    5/5

  • "Dr Nates Fantoblous Machine Looking Show", thats a much better name than "Ponder Pop", feel free to use it.

  • $499 AUS

    So that's about £3.24

    [Joke]

  • wow aus money is so low i wounder how much candain money is whorth there

  • Ouch.....come on, its going to be at LEAST a tenner.

  • its sort of a video capture card and pc external hard drive that you can plug games consouls and what not i might get one

  • Must...buy...now!!

  • This could make machinima much easier to make!

  • if you stop the vid on 03:03 you see the start text to south park :P nice vid blunty :P keep it up. :P

  • Blunty... you do such a great range of videos. But when are you going to do more lego animations?

  • Is it me or is that bloke asking too many questions?

You can stream? No computer in the vercinity?

Mate stop talking on an up!!

p.s BLunty for king of the world

  • looks awesome

  • sweet

  • Blunty, were you invited to Youtube Live? I would think that you should have been. If you were, why did you decline, if you weren't, would you have gone if you were invited? What would you have done?

  • I was yes. Twice. Didn't go for several reasons.

  • Oh dear Blunty! You've really done it this time! They'll come for you! You should have known better than to have that footage of southpark in your video!

  • He started to annoy me when I noticed he had the "ask a question" inflection at the end of sentences that didn't need it.

  • i had a geekgazm.

  • haha XD

  • so if you have a 360, you can use that instead of a capture card?

if so then i want one!!

  • yup.

  • but i must say the interface look crappy...

  • Okay I want one. *laughs* Of course I would have to do more research on it to see if it would really work for me.

If you get one then a more indepth review would be most appreciated. *smile*

    - Heidi

  • I should be getting a unit so I can so a full proper review on it in a few weeks. :)

  • Very Cool. I will look forward to that. =)

I wanted to find out if they delivered to the USA so I checked the FAQ. The answer was to sign up then check the drop down of countries to choose from to find out. If your country wasn't listed then they don't ship there.

I wasn't quite happy about having to sign up just to find out if they shipped to my country so I didn't. =(

    - Heidi

  • Send 'em an email and ask :)

  • What is the price of this? If it is in the video, I can't find it.

  • It is mentioned. the prices for the various models are also mentioned on the website (link in video and at the sidebar)

  • interface looks ugly. Nice idea though.

  • Yeah that's true. But it looks like the thing itself should be pretty good.

  • Agreed, but I just got an email with a screenshot of the new updated interface... MUCH classier. pleasant blue theme.

  • ... but can it run crysis?

  • could it be used as a capture card?

  • yes

  • ps3 does this and has bluray and plays games

  • PS3 accepts multiple video inputs and also records them? news to me. PS3 plays back media sure... but that's where it stops.

  • it can record with playtv addon.

  • No, the playTV ps3 adon (where availiable) can only record from it's own TV TUNER and even then you can't move the file to your computer etc. THIS unit records directly from just about any vid source you can plug into it AND then have those files easily moved between your devices.

  • hahaha the guy is a newb.

  • i purchased a 750gb hdd and media player from the wonderful land of ebay. it cost $215 and i love it. vga, component and HDMI outputs. The only difference i can see is the ability to record things, like games consoles or dvd players for you budding pirates. Anyway, $500 is very steep when there are much cheaper alternatives.

  • The unit you describe really isn't an alternative if it can't even record and timeshift now is it?

  • probably will fail but if u look at other stuff like it its pretty cheap

  • is that a joke .... : /

  • That'd be awesome for recording my runs... overpriced, yes, but I'm sure it'll fall

  • Really overpriced...

  • You think? show me a cheaper alternative with the same or better feature set. seriously.

  • My old computer.

  • that thing looks freshhhhhhhhh

  • thats honestly pointless

  • For you maybe, for me a very very handy little gadget, which is why I sat down with this guy and asked about it.

  • umm apple i-tv

  • The apple TV Doesn't record, doesn't accept inputs from other devices, doesn't support all the file types this does.

  • lol i love the non-descript nod to cut the video :P

    sounds good :P

  • ...That is absolutely perfect for machinima's.

  • heh, yeah. Maybe I'll try my hand at it when I get one of these ;)

  • why werent u invited to youtube live?

    good vid =]

  • I was, twice. I chose not to go.

  • why not?

  • DO NOT WANT!

  • Just a quick comment about the interface. We have just taken the new order in and the previously eye-offensive background has been changed.

It now has a soft blue background.

  • That all confused the shit out of me, Can it be used as a capture card sort of thing?

  • yes.

  • I wants one. Yet another reason I watch your channel, Blunty. Thanks for the heads up.

  • freecom already has this check out the 450 series which also has wlan.

  • Looks pretty cool... seems a tad expensive.

  • Will I be able to get one in the U.S.? Or will I have to get one off of ebay or something?

  • Shoot them an email (the website's in the description) the website says the can ship internationally, so maybe. an email to the sales team is a good place to ask.

  • That's cool. It's kind of like a bigger and better iPod. Thanks for the show Nate.

  • Where were you when you in this interview?

  • Like the description says. It was at eGames / DLS .. see my other recent vids for more from these expo's :)

  • Ponder Pop is the worst name for a thingy such as this.

  • I agree.

  • "pondering Pop culture" is where It spawns from... and gadgets/games/tv/movies etc are all pop culture. I like the name just fine :P

  • How about something more dymamic and sexy, like Sexy Pop or Funky Pop, two better name right there!

  • Wat kind of movie files does it play? All kinds?

  • Not all (don't know any device like this that will play ALL the obscure formats out there) but it'll handle all the most common (and useful) types; Video

    MPEG 1/2/4

    MP@HL, MP@ML, H.264

    Audio

    MP3, AAC, OGG, PCM

    WMA, WMA Pro

    Subtitles

    SUB, SRT, SSA, SMI

  • i got to buy one or two of those :)

  • so for $400 you can record what on the tv and watch files on your computer on your tv.

hmm well i guess burning dvds is kind of a bitch

  • at the core, yeah. but it's a bit more flexible and expansive than that, being able to take and play files from a bunch of sources (your wifi or Ethernet network, external HDD's, thumbdrives etc) and if what you do normally is burn DVD's to watch stuff on your TV, this will save you SO MUCH TIME and stuffing arounf! heh... and blank DVD's too I guess.

  • wow, thats very interresting...if you could design a machine for gaming what would you do blunty3000?

  • Take a small rubber ball and a cup designed to catch the ball and attach them to one another with a bit of string.

  • you not going youtube live?

  • Nope, too busy and it's too far away. (and also a wee bit lame, some of their "celebrity guest stars" are total hacks).

  • lol...very original...it will sell for millions...i would patent it if i were you...

  • very original i would patent the ball and string design if i were you...

  • whew im gonna get me one muhahaha . i can now record my game sessions , muhahaha

  • Sweet,

finished fable 2, brilliant game but short.

Are there gunna be any more videos from this ...oh says in the side bar never mind. Yeah i coulda jsut deleted the quesiton but thats boring

  • awesome, i can record my gameplay now

  • looks neat but interface looks cheap

  • Yeah, the UI isn't very polished, but it works well enough, and I spoke with Jonno about the ugly factor... he knows it looks a bit naff and they are working on it. I expect like most devices of it's type a simple firmware upgrade is all that's needed when they've got the front end a bit more polished.

  • ah i see thanks for info, so can this be used like the "dazzle" (capture card)?

  • Pretty much yeah, but you don't need a computer to operate it, it's a completely stand alone self contained solution.

  • ah pretty sweet might purchase it might not :)

  • oh i have a ponder pop question. not realy about anything ponder pop related.

If your allowed to say, how much money do you get from youtube? as a partner, ive always wondered if people get like a 2 digits or 4 digits amount, obviously views affects it.

and on the more nerdy side whats your favourite xbox game? I need a new one to buy :)

  • It's based on advertising revenue, and can vary.

CURRENT fave xbox game(s) Fable 2 and Gears of War 2

  • for a second when i saw it i thought it was just an red xbox... LIKE an Xbox would ever be thet good... PS3!

  • Another good video Tony...uh Blunty sorry.I have been looking for something like this for ages, and HOPEFLLY i should be able to get my hands on it over here.

  • Drop the sales guys at the ELJO website an email (link in the vid description) I just checked and the website does mention they can ship internationally. :)

  • Thanks for the info Blunty.I'll try my luck with an E-mail

  • oh and for those wondering

    499 aussie dollars is

    312 american

    210 pounds

  • 247 Euro's .. cool .. getting one if the capture of console gameplay turns out to work.

  • woah i want one to bad im in the uk oh and i just finished watching the GH3 vid i notest you were focused on ali :P

  • Who can blame me? Is she not the cutest? :)

  • well il give you that blunty try not to jump on her eh share :D

  • yea they look good now all i got to do is geat that amount of money in lamens terms its a huge usb box in you living room for almost all flies in digital media

  • heh, that's pretty much it in a nutshell, yeah. (though, physically the box isn't huge, it's about the same size as a standard external hard drive)

  • Thats awesome, does that mean that you could record say. Straight from the Xbox 360/PS3? Also I looks really stylish!

Are you going to get one blunty?

  • Yup, that's exactly what it means :) neat eh? and yes, I think I need one. :D

  • oh and blunty i f***ing love your vids, especialy the particularly nerdy ones.

    :)

  • I love the nerdy ones too ;)

  • Yer a Nerd! (doing the Nelson) HaaHaaaa!

oh wait .. i'm watching this .. and sorta got excited about the HDMI recording .. uhm .. btw .. any word on if recording from consoles would work? I dont know much about this copy protections stuff, but this might stand in the way, right? And ..btw .. i love the new Blunty.. yer doing us nerds a great service .. hope you get as big as engadget one day :)

  • and yes that was horribly riddled with typos

    sorry

  • true true, im jsut sayign for a free feature its pretty good

  • Could you explain this to me in layman's terms?

  • A little box you can plug your tuner / dvd / game devices / other video devices into to record digitally - and also play back your other digital media (music, photos, and many video files) to your TV (either from the inbuilt hard drive, a hard drive you've got plugged in, or across your home network.

  • Wow, that is definitely something I would invest my money in.

  • heh nifty innit?

  • What is the price in US dollars?

  • A pure currency conversion tell me the $499AU (500GB unit) works out at $314USD (current exchange rate) but that doesn't take into account the different TAX systems or shipping etc, but it gives you an idea of the value I guess.

  • It sounds very much liuke the orb website and system. Brilliant little website lets you stream content from your computer through web devices like iphone, or wii.

  • Not really in the same ballpark. This unit is a dedicated media player and recorder with multiple input/output options. The Orb thing, like you said, is for playback streaming media across a network/web to certain other devices.

  • that looks awsome and when he said the price i said out loud fuck thats cheap

  • Bit like appletv, but without the computer...

  • and VASTLY superior file compatibility, and recording... etc etc etc

  • sorry, I'd only seen the first portion. I gotta stop doing that...

  • heh, s'ok... more comments to feed on ;P

  • i've gotta get me one of them, sounds easy to use and compatible. is it only USB transfer though for record and file share (aside from the network option)?

  • you can transfer and/or stream files via network, both Wifi and LAN, or USB device. What else do you need?

  • i was just wondering first most what the options were, but i would be set with the LAN for streaming. I'm just not to fond of USB

  • oh? why no love for the USB?

  • I do a lot of work with Digital Audio Workstations, and Audio creation editing and design, and there are things that just go wrong with USB. slow transfers, incomplete files and freezes. it just been a hell of a lot easier with Firewire 400

  • Yeah, for that kind of thing that relies on very consistent file transfer speeds yes, FW has always been best, it's what it was designed for afterall. but for the simpler stuff, throwing already compressed and encoded files of moderate sizes around like what this unit does, it'll work just fine.

  • yeah i figured it would be strait for small files. thanks for the insight and the cool video as always!
