Thought this was very entertaining and couldn't wait to show it to my husband who was the first in his family to not have an arranged marriage. He speaks a different dialect & had to read the lyrics along with me.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I have heard in a long time. I loved the flute mixed with the beautiful part singing. So glad to listen to this here in Asia. Magical ahhh!!!
The choral work is magnificent... (soloist gets on my nerves though) but a flute and not a dizi?!? A violin and not an erhu?!? A piano and not a guzheng?!? Travesty! You might as well sing it in English at such a point.
Thanks for watching! The original choral music of this piece was written for chorus with piano accompaniment.
It will be interesting to hear this piece accompanied by dizi, erhu or guzheng. If you know someone who has the talent of playing these Chinese instruments and might be able to perform with us, please let us know.
Just wonderful! For poetry-lovers: read the poem "Streets in Shanghai" by Tomas Tranströmer! (from 1989.)(translated into English and Chinese.) It begins:
The white butterfly in the park is being read by many.
I love this butterfly as if it was a fluttering sheet of truth itself!
(my own translation.)(the authorized one may differ a little.)
I don't understand a single word yet the whole song is not unfamiliar ... it sounds very similar to many songs in tribute to the proletarian chinese masses and chairman Mao in the 70's. NICE!!! Brings back memories!!! the tune that is.
Very good! Some Chinese classics! My parents have heard them before too :)
I did some earthquake appeal fund raising today too in my city centre just outside the City Hall. I raised about £200 from the passing public in a matter of 3 hours. All now given to the local Chinese Society.
For those who have not donated yet please do so asap and enjoy my piano videos too if it helps.
the entire song gave me goosebumps. totally riveting!

We had to split the song into two videos due to YouTube's 10 minutes limit. Please see the video response for part 2 of the song.
