Interesting to see this again after all these years (from seeing it live of course). :p Looking back I really needed to work on my performance skills and less on chops. Nice solo.
First comment I saw reminded me of my first year in Morehead State drumline (quads.) Our quad section leader consistently went off on our bottom bass for him leaving his mouth open during rehearsal. I still remember the "poster child for 'I look like shit magazine'" comment quite fondly. Good times.
I noticed the way he is holding his left stick seems to be an uncommon technique of holding tradtional. Is that like an old style? I noticed some alumni from my school play like that.
moreheads traditional style is more complicated than most schools, instead of bouncing the stick off the fingers for doubles you are trained to actually use the wrist for every note, its all in the wrist, no shortcuts at morehead!
not that i know of, but if there were any that would it would probably be deluschia's corp, if he even instructs anymore. Morehead is known for their percussion, they have won more national titles than anyone else. If you drum and want some sheetmusic of their cadences and warm ups i can send you some.
I can understand at that young...I still shuffle a little here and there when I'm performing solo. I guess just to ease the nerves so I don't become a board :P
Anyway, EXCELLENT playing at 16, dude. That's killer...
Kid's AWESOME at playing, but for strict drumlimes (like Morehead. If you don't believe me, you're an idiot), he realllllly needs to quit bobbing his head around, and trying to smell the drumhead and shit.
I did tons of line stuff, a few years of DCI after this solo, your right I probably should have kept my head up more. I was probably a bit shy to the crowd at age 16. :-)
