I adore Diana but to say that she's better than Sutherland it's just ridiculous. She doesn't have even one third of Sutherland's voice and anyone who has ears knows this.
Thank you lmz1692 for having taken the burden of filming this awesome performance. I have spent many years doing this work, and I know how stressful and difficult it is. Beside this, this document is just fabulous. I see Diana Damrau as getting better and better over time. She is definitly one of the greatest artists of our times. I wish I can see her soon here in Paris.

OMG...this takes me back to when I saw her as Lucia last October. I had a rush in my body watching and hearing my favorite singer perform. She performed even better than I had imagined. I adore and worship this woman for being the very skilled singer and actress that she is. Brava!!
you're so right IMO & it's not only her voice - which I adore, voicewise she's the best around nowadays - but perhaps her real persona is getting in the way: this Lucygal wouldn't go mad, she'd get even, give her menfolks the finger and move away to become ... well SOMEONE in her own rights. One can only hope she'll do a different approach in Berlin next year - a fragile Lucia who crumbles under the pressure ... but nonetheless - love her voice and her queen of the night is one of the best!

And speaking of your comment about the voice being small, I've heard her live five times and her voice runs very well in the theaters. This video is a good proof of it. The person who taped it was not very close to the stage and I doubt that the microphone of his recording devise was close to the stage and you can hear her voice perfectly!...Oh, well, to each his or her own taste....

I was very happy that Beczala was on the HD broadcast today but it was so sad to see the mediocre performance of Netrebko knowing (through this video and the Sirius radio broadcast) what Diana could do with the role. I have watched this clip over and over and it trully confirms that true quality is not always praised as it should. DIANA: I missed you today in the broadcast! It was not the same without your amazing singing and your emotive acting.

Wonderful! Which performance was this? I attended the matinee on the 25th... her last performance! It was breathtaking! (I can't tell if this is from that performance or not, unfortunately!)
well actually the world of opera found its lucia a year a go when Natalie dessay opened the season at the met with this role and she was amazing and she is the best Lucia.....Diana is really good at but not like natalie
yes, i'm a great fun also, but i don't like the superlatives! Both Diana and Natalie are great Lucias, i love them both. Singing and acting are perfect. But Diana is younger and she has more time to bring Lucia's role to even higher levels. (sorry for my english!)
netrebko doesn't do this role justice!!! she's the best lucia since sutherland... hands down... and she's my fav soprano for over three years! I wish i could see her perform live.. thank you so much for this video!

Natalie is wonderful but the bloom is off the rose. Damrau's voice is a gleaming instrument, with a freshness no longer enjoyed by Dessay's.
