@fk4515: Wings Over Houston 2003. Low pass @ 100' AGL, 300 kts & 10 degrees nose-down. Landed & taxied up 100 ft nose-to-canard with my Wright 1902. I thought the SOB was gonna run me over. But then the air crew climbed out, walked straight over to my plane and shook my hand. The pilot pulled off one of his patches and under it was a 1902 sliver Dollar. "I brought this to show you" he says to me. "My grandfather gave me this when I got my wings to remind me of where we started." ..NB
"D" models with hound dogs?? Ever seen a "H" model climbing nose down and tail up? The basic design will be 90 years old and still flying. They told me these had a service life of about 2000 hours. In 1985 when I signed into my first assignment we didn't have a bird on the field with less than 4000 hours, we were launching sorties were the aircraft was older than any of the crew and we had some second generation crew dogs flying the same birds their daddies did.
Probably the best aircraft ever. Went into service in the 50s, and the H models (built from 1960-61) are still going strong. The B-52 is still a better plane than the B-1 or B-2. Amazing plane.
@PumpkinPuffer Yeah, the crew said that about their aircraft? I call bullshit. And for future reference, you idiot, the airmen don't fly the aircraft, the pilot does. Pilots are officers, airmen, E-1, are enlisted. If you were any more ignorant about this subject, it would be amazing. Do yourself a favor and stfu before you make a bigger ass of yourself than you already have.
@WildMan7856 Not even close. This thing can fit a 747 inside its frame. It is what it is. I believe it still holds more Lbs. of ordinance than any other flying; and its over 50 years old. God damn pretty bird.
Bergstrom AFB, Austin, TX. Going to Houston every yr 4 vaction 2 Tomball & houston, Dad would stop @ a little drive in south of the base ans we eat lunch and watch these bad bitchess takeoff and land. I could tell when 1 flew over me in Loas or Cambby, the ground would shake, the sky broke open and the Death Angels were on their way !!!!
Alot of people have no ideal of just how importent the B-52s are and have been in keeping our country safe! These planes are awesome and are still in use today, i live in SHREVEPORT and BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE is close by and if you ever get a chance theres a open house airshow here every year, so take the time to see one of these as they are totally BADASS and to see them in person is something youll never forget!
I Minot AFB was also a B-52 base. Granted it was back in the late 70's I lived there. Nothing like living in the line of the flight line and watching the touch and goes at night. I was a teenager then. It was an awesome sight and sound. Yes, I was an AF brat that later married an AF guy. Best yrs of my life, ok other then having grandbabies....
@moonchildsixsixsix you know what ass-wipe? i don't give a damn what you say. It doesn't mean a god-damn shit to me if you even flew one of these bombers. times are changing bro. if you can't keep up with 'em your gonna get run over by them. if they were as bad-ass as you seem to state they are, why is the miliatary no longer using them?
@DoinNOWHERECity well KID ill tell yaa, they not like punks ass. they lived to go old an died in peace .Now how long will you fight an live NOT 50 yrs like the B-52 so shut the HELL UP PUNK ASS HOLE
@DoinNOWHERECity ya it might be outdated but it can still bomb the shit outa places, and besides if its not worth shit then how come the air force is still using it.
@DoinNOWHERECity Oh yes it is. It can turn any enemy HQ or other installment into a bunch of smoldering craters. You just can't get any better than that.
