I never noticed it since you bring this subject up. I am guilty, I do use 'LOL' sometime w/ no expressions. I will cut it down unless I think it is really funny and laughing out loud then I will put 'LOL'..
How so very true, guys! :) I don't think I have seen a person say that in person, but if they did... I would bring that up! :) Especially if one person says ROTFLMAO... I will ask, "What? You are NOT ROTFLMAO! Stop lying or just DO IT! Get down on the floor and roll on it laughing your ass off!!" :) :) :)
And I continued to watch different vlogger's video and almost everyone said "LOL" with no expression!! Honestly, I think they are retard and fake!I never used that word "LOL" to anyone in person.I see more and more Deaf people learned it from thru vloggers and think it is ok to use "LOL" thru vlog and in person.THAT IS RIDICULE!
Yeah I noticed many Deaf people use "LOL" thru DVTV since I joined DVTV few weeks ago. When my first view someone's vlog thru dvtv, I saw someone said "LOL" with no expression, I was like "WTF"?!?
i have to admit that i am guilty as charged...saying LOL in front of a video...now i'm going to try to cut that down....there are quite few commenters here that says that they don't do that but I DO SEE them doing it in their vlogs/vcomments anyway...what does this tell ya???
I actually have seen in live chats with webcams where users actually typed 'LMAO' and, yet, they were not smiling or grinning or laughing on the webcams.
Same here, every time someone uses handshape of two L's representing W, or whatever drives me nut. I can think of possible 8 signs/facial expression representing whatever. Creative in ASL is lacking these days (shaking head)
That's right! whoever said LOL in person is fucked head!
Honey you both have melt my beaver! whew!!! never had that orgasm for long time! I don't need viagra anymore! please do more vlogs I want more orgasm!
perhaps its getting popular is because we re in a Internet Age? or maybe "cyperspace"? you still got a point, we tend to show "dead" face when we spell LOL...
LOL. It's OK to type it but sign it, no. Vloggers who tend to use SEE add to this annoyance as well. It has no place for ASL users who can express their reactions in many ways.
Umm, I thought I did remember see you mention LOL on video comments. LOL. Why am I saying LOL. Enough with LOL. LOL still stain with us. DAMN LOL! Let's have a song with LOL. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Ahhh, shut me up! LOL!
Damn, you too? That's one of my pet peeves. I never say LOL in fingerspell or anything like that except I type LOL in the computer when I really am laughing. When I sign, I usually go with "haha" with my facial expression. Damn you nail it right on the head because LOL is way overused and obsolete. Other word I hate the most is LOLZ. I was like what the fuck is Z after LOL?!?!? That is a huge turn off. Great vlog, Ridor and Gador!
Yeah but that LOLZ isn't fingerspelled but is typed. I asked what is z stand for. They said it's just like 's', I persistently asked "how could that be spelled 'laugh out louds'? That is full of crap. Because that is no such thing as 'louds/loudz'!" *rolls eyes*
Wikipedia may not be a reliable source - but there's some good information there. I had to look it up once for a report that I had to type up in High School.
Try researching a bit further than staying on Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is a wonderful place to START looking for information, but you're right, it's probably not a good site to to use to back up the truth of your answer.
I'm amazed that Wikipedia is as useful and accurate as it is - kinda fascinating - but it isn't too hard to find errors, either.
You nailed on this, Jdpjrdude1 -- I love Wikipedia. You're correct that it is a wonderful place to *START* looking for information. Just find the information then do more research outside of Wikipedia. That's how I do that when I was in college days.
My first time ever I seen "LOL" was on AOL in long time ago. There is many abbreviation for communication in cyberspace. You would like to check "LOL" for more information in Wikipedia. You should use Wikipedia often to make your researching easier. For deaf people, they need to use facial expression. That is what Deaf culture is. :)
Haha. I like this vlog. Excellent job. Maybe people now will be like "..shhoot. I better not say it in person anymore or Ridor'll come and attack me." =P
And LChaim - the word was obviously made by a hearing person. I know that for sure. But the exact history of the word LOL, I am not sure. But a hearing person definitely created this word, along with gr8, lmao, rofl, l8r, etc. Like gr8 - it does sound like gr-eight when you speak it, so that's why people say gr8 - easier to type.
I am glad I am not only one feel that way. I found it's strange when people says LOL in person or a video because I am used to type LOL in chatroom or chat with someone on instant message. I had never say LOL in person. I kept separate from computer's language and in person's language for many years. I assumed that they had adapted with LOL because they thought it is real cool to say in person or a video. I started notice that last fall when I was in college by hanging out w/ young people.
Oh you both hit right on the nail!! I couldn't agree more. It's one of biggest pet peeves beside BUT BUT BUT. Anyway, I had to ask my co-worker who is hearing, OFC. She looked at me like I'm retarded. I usually said HAHA. Speaking of HAHA, same co-worker I asked, her daughter who is in teens now. She said, LOL is no longer among those teens in any IM conversations. "HAHA" is the new trend nowadays. You both rock. Keep it up.
oh gahd! that was me!! moi, my dam low function fawkenbrain! thanx for pointing us out! never thought of that. oh gahd, good to see you both again ALIVE and WELL!!! Wishing you both very Happy New Year!!! Shawn
LOLOL haha kidding, yeah i agree with you both. Not have to said LOL in person, sooo stupid! some kids do that at my school but i say nothing. You both...come back to DTV! have a great new year eve! peace out
That's something for us to think about. The term LOL used in vlog or in person really getting on my nerves. I use "HAHAHA" or just show my true laughing. I just don't get people who does that. I suppose your may be right... those low functional people... or maybe their life are all computerized now. Unfortunate of us that we had to put up with this foolishness!
Who invented LOL??? tell me discuss???? Deaf or Hearing??? I remember I learned word LOL through AIM back in 1998's I feel that it is not good term for LOL I like word HA HA HA more noise term!
Good point

~chuckles~ First of all, it was great seeing you and Gary on this vlog together! Priceless!
As for the LOL issue, it's nothing new. I know one guy who will block or delete your AIM screen name immediately right after you mentioned 'LOL'.

Hi Ricky,
I agree with you..... seems that person who use this spelling LOL must be know nothing about ASL.....Low function from Maintream school.
