  • I didn't hear Maiden Voyage. I heard Dolphin Dance.

  • I think he may have worked in both themes the more I listen to it. Both tracks are on the "Maiden Voyage" album as ensemble pieces... I could swear I hear the "Maiden Voyage" theme in there amidst his recitative-like improvisation. Particularly in the upper register in octaves a little over 2:00 in and following. I'll have to listen to them both again. It is also a masterful solo rendition that is very free, vs. the more measured quartet rendition from the original album. Amazing either way!

  • @Gretchluver1 As best I can tell he seems to start with references to "Maiden Voyage" around 1:30 and 2:02 then around 4:15 does seem to reference what may be "Dolphin Dance" when the ensemble joins him, then Lionel brings in the theme from "Round Midnight" around 5:32 for a creatively mellow medley of ballad standards.

  • Herbie offers an extended two minute solo piano introduction, before segueing into "Maiden Voyage" so hang in there with him as he constructs the musical canvas for an amazing rendition of two jazz classics!
