Hi Arnaud! Wow! You are very popular! That's great! I love your playing! The thing I notice as an untrained musician is that the timing of your notes and even the space between them is your own creation! It makes your music very distinct and noticeable and of course very enjoyable! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"
There are times here when YOU start to come through, and then just as quickly as they begin, you're cutting them off and channeling Keith again. More playing done while SCATTING will go along way towards negating that because the sound of your voice is inside of your head, the same place where your music should originate from!
Nicely done. Two suggestions. Take the music off of your piano. When you are improvising, do so with the piano free of sheet music. Secondly, You'll never be improvising in your own moment if you're hearing any part of Jarrett's Somewhere rendition in your head. Channeling your musical thoughts with as much freedom from the sound of other pianists as much as is possible is imperative to translating your flow of instant composition.
Ich bin der Meinung das Stück könnte ein bischen fließender gespielt werden !but beautyfull !This peace may be onece of my my most famus slowly peaces or pure of harmonic-your a good realplayer - i whish you all good things to be endly a Master !!!
Very nice voicings and overall a great modern performance. I would have preferred the melody to be less rubato and stay in almost strict time. All the LH activity tends to smother the RH. The B section was perfect becuse you keep the melody in front of everything else. Also think about using more note range. start LH arppegio 8va lower and use 3 octaves instead of 2.. hope this helps you
No, no, don’t discourage yourself; you will live 50 more years at least to come to the end and see final progress in playing… kidding, I myself feel so much the same when I take my horn, in fact If I ever had any better sense of musicianship I would be a musician, but I don’t give up, and I still bother my neighbors and family practicing almost every day. Your playing as a matter of fact is terrific!!!!
Hello Arnaud, What a beautiful performance! Wonderful job with the harmonics and such a lovely jazz feeling. Keep up the great work! ***** All the best, Kate
yes, you are right~ it's very heart-warming~ thank you very much for posting~ having a free tempo as you do keeps the song very charming and intriguing. Splendid improvisation~!
you're in the wright way man, keep on the good work just loke you're doing! Im learning piano too, but my limitation is reading music....I just cant! so I think you got a really amazing evolution if you started just a couple of years ago...but a jam session is about improvisation and you can get it only with intuition...not in a partiture.
So good luck.
Anyhow, I love your playing and the exquisite selection of songs.
For any piano players out there who would like to learn this themselves there is a keith jarrett transcription available for this beautiful piece. It's been commonly located on the internet since 2003. This version is actually a reduced version of the actual song transcription, for the actual transcription is over 5 minutes in length. If you need help locating it drop me a note and I'll be happy to assist. Enjoy all.
You HAVE to send this a movie production company (after copyrighting it) or something, because this needs to be heard by far more people than it is. Couldn't you hear this on the dramatic ending of your favorite film?...
I've never heard a jazz remake of this song, but this is just so beautiful and incredible.
jazz is not really my favorite musicstyle... so i'm by far not the right person to "judge" or comment your work... listen to it once was okay but i would not buy a (jazz)cd because i just can't fit into this kind of music.
Sounds beautiful Q! Keep up the great work. Listen to your phrasing and timing, when you sustain keep your timing in check by singing it in your head while you play it. Make sure those pauses sound natural. I really like your chord voicings that add extra tension to the melody. Fantastic!!
I never learned to play this good. I became disenchanted after listening to Art Tatum, George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell and Teddy Wilson. You have got to be committed to practice, practice, practice and play some more. I am a good listner now.
I LOVE Keith Jarret, just got an Album by him and Charlie Haden called Jasmine. Great rendition by the way! Don't stop enhancing our existence with great music, it is greatly appreciated by some.
Thank you my friend for an amazing performance. You have soul. In my humble opinion there is no need for you to try to play exactly what Keith Jarrett played. Your have your own sound and it is beautiful.
