  • I think there should be a large commonwealth review, staged possibly in London, maybe horseguards? With military and official representatives from all the nations there in, it would be a ruddy marvelous spectacle :)

  • Hello, just a question i want to join this Regiment, but i have glasses would i be able to go in?

  • @PcGamerPaul Yes, you can join the Governor General's Foot Guards even with glasses, I was accepted yesterday, and I wear glasses :) however, you probably have to wear contacts during ceremonial guard business, cause the bearskin hats probably don't fit right if you have glasses on (just a guess though)

  • @corneliusvanDB Haha congrats, but now i'm living in Hamilton and going into the Rileys (RHLI) only one more year!

  • @rctsos

    Precisely - we're family.

  • Lovely City and delightful people, Canada is a country that will blossom in this century. It is always a pleasure to visit Canada.

  • Sorry but no one does any military drill as sharp as our buddies in the USA..

and the Army Sentenial Guards do the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier ALL YEAR ROUND..despite the weather conditions..

Canadian army is good but doesn't come close to the US drill temas..especially

    USMC...fogedabbadit!

  • @BX02 - British army Coldstream Guards have sharper, harder and more precise drill than any US drill display. Changing of the gaurd around various locations in London has been going on all year round for 100's of years.

Type in 'Trooping of the Colour', watch it and then show me a more complex drill display.

  • when i was in ottawa i heard this happens like very morning at 10. is this true?

  • @derrbarn14 Only during the summer.

  • @derrbarn14

This is the same format as happens at Buckingham palace the guards hand over at 11am in UK. In Britain changing the guard is a daily event up to October then it goes to every hrs.

  • @derrbarn14 Come to England, its every day VERY early ;p

  • I wish we tried as hard to keep relations strong with Canada as we do with America :(

Out of interest do Canadian forces feel a connection/devotion to the Queen as head of state or do they feel very much an independent nation. I would love to visit some time.

  • @alex471996 generally people dont feel a devotion to the monarch and she is largely ignored because we are largely used to all the imperial symbols we see around... but no one is happy if someone (americans) make an insult about the queen

  • @alex471996 i served in the Canadian Forces, you pledge allegiance to the Queen, and her Rightful Heirs and Successors, so yes the forces do. When we visited a war memorial in quebec once, we sang god save the queen to it as well, lots of soldiers do swear by the oath for queen and country. Now, ordinary civilians in canada think the queen is cool, some want to get rid of her though. I personally like the idea of a Queen/King if they have aptitude to do the job, and the Queen now obviously does

  • Bad boy red coats! God Save the Queen!

  • @rctsos The Commonwealth family!

  • Hi, i was just wondering how there hats stay on?

    please reply, thanks

  • they have normal straps and chin straps like any other helmet just a bit more top heavy

  • GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN!!!

    from your mates from australia

  • Yes. Canadians have the Canadian Grenadiers Guards the oldest military unit in Canada. IT stems from the British Royal Guard so yes but there arent any brits in the unit.

  • The oldest unit in Canada, is the QYRangs, an armored Recce unit in 32 Bgd in Toronto. They can trace their roots back to Rogers Rangers (as do the US Army Rangers).

    ~Thanato

  • Technically they're not, because they were disbanded and renamed several times.

  • Their lineage dates back to the American war of independence no other Canadian Unit can claim that.

    ~Thanato

  • What are the foot regiments in Canada called?

  • The Governor General's Foot Guards and the Canadian Genadier Guards. There is also a cavalry regiment the Governor General's Horse Guards, but they do thier own thing.

  • Thanks!!

  • Melikethecake -> the cake is a lie xD

  • Love the Canadians. They do it just as well as we do.

  • thankyou!!!

  • @TESCOORIGINALCOLA That maybe, But you brits are better.

  • I wish they would hold the Changing Of The Guard ceremonies more often. They only take place from late June to late August. I love going over to the Parliament Building on sunny summer mornings to watch this with the crowd. I always feel better after seeing the show.

  • unfortunately we can't because the regiments involved are training during the fall winter and spring.

  • Man i've done this last summer and i cant tell you three months is enough... i can tell, first the majority of thoses guardsmen are students some far from home (like me i live in Quebec), they put an end to their social life during the whole summer cuz they have to get up at 5:30 every morning so when you get wasted and you wake up only 2 or 3 hours later and your still drunk on pt...well it's not plesent at all... like doing this but I'm damn proud to have the chance of being a guardsman.

  • I never thought that most of those people in the Changing Of The Guard Ceremony were 18-25 years old. I always believed they were people who had been doing this their whole life. Still, I appreciate the young men and women who even in the searing heat give it their all to entertain the tourists and locals. I think you people don't get enough ink or credit for your work. People who draw a crowd of 2,00-4,000 daily deserve more attention than they are getting.

  • Thank you. I'm glad to read what you written this really appreciated! The CG will continue to guard the War memorial and the GG's house as well as gather more and more tourists and citizens who appreciate our jib thank you!

  • I can't wait to do this my self, you wear the star or the Gren??

  • the Gren my friend!

  • Ah ic, I wear the Star myself

  • is that salute the bsa salute

  • bifroma brit they where just so good my late dad was a service man through ww2 in hes words he would say they where shit hot god bless canada happy new year 2008

  • thanks man!

  • Very like the Trooping the Colour in style and even in music.

  • thats what it is, but with a canadain twist
