Unless you listen to this song 'till the very end you're gonna miss the entire point of it. The very last lyrics as the song fades out are "They should never bash them!". I suppose it was a message to skins that did that at the time asking them why they went "paki bashing" and if there was any need for it, hence the "Why? Oh why?" in the lyrics.
skinheads were famous for paki and queer bashing in the late 60s-early 70s, it wasnt political they just hated them, blacks hated them too, it was the late 70s revival skinheads that were more into far right politics and hated blacks aswell , well most of them did, i know cos i was one , i dont know why foreign skinheads go on about this trad skin bollocks, we were just kids haveing a good time and pissing people off most of us didnt understand the politics but we knew it pissed people off
Mate you a clearly a fool. What do you know about my life? Do you think everything is in books? The lyrics of the song are about Paki bashing. Maybe you are deaf? Or if you are german you don't understand? Look on the internet for the lyrics if you can't understand them... its very clear.
@DerEchteBold : But the fact that there is a song about it proves that it was an issue and commonplace. Anyway this argument is tiresome, and if people feel they want to rewrite history to make it nicer then go ahead, it might change things for the better anyway.
??? I don't need to read a book, I was a skinhead and I was there. My wife is of African descent. There is a difference between Carribeans and Pakistanis. Skinheads never liked them, that is a fact and if you don't like it, listen to or read the lyrics of this song. It's very clear...
fantastic original photos here,much better than the usual off by heart fare you see on most websites.great shots.good to see those dublin skins from 1969 on the steps of the club they opened.i see a valencia skinhead band uses same picture.
This song was made in the 60's sung by people of African decent. Read a book and discover what skinheads at that time were really about. Especially before you try and twist the lyrics of a great song into what you want them to say.
bash em!

@BillySaturday
hey
i looked up the lyrics and was going to tell "sturmvogel" that he is wrong
but then i looked a bit more and found the controversy about it
it seems they're just ironic about the opinion of people who think skinhead equals small-minded and violent

@BillySaturday
No, you definitely need to read a book or three. You weren't a skinhead in '69.
If you think someone of African decent who is singing in this song is talking about "bashing" minorities then you're dumber than you sound.
